Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an isotropic carbon material having high density and strength and low specific resistance, by compression molding meso-carbon microbeads compounded with raw petroleum coke having a specific particle diameter and baking the formed product. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of meso-carbon microbeads having an average particle diameter of about 15mum are compounded with 0.5-50pts.wt. of a raw petroleum coke having an average particle diameter of <=44mum. The mixture is compression molded with a rubber press, baked in an inert atmosphere at about 1,000 deg.C and, as necessary, graphitized at >=2,000 deg.C.
