Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily produce a recording medium having excellent characteristics such as wear resistance and corrosion resistance with high productivity by using an alloy essentially consisting of Co, Cr, W, and C as an evaporation source of a vacuum deposition method and heating, melting and evaporating the alloy rapidly by laser light, thereby forming a thin alloy film. CONSTITUTION:The collimated beams of the incident CO2 laser light from an incident window 1 are converted by a copper concave mirror 2 directed diagonally downward toward the front end part of the evaporation source 3 essentially consisting of Co, Cr, W and C and are focused thereto. The evaporation source 3 melts and attains a high temp. rapidly and evaporates instantaneously. This metal vapor is condensed onto the surface of the substrate 4 placed in the position diametrially opposite to the evaporation source 3 and the thin alloy film essentially consisting of Co, Cr, W, and C is formed thereon. The compsn. equiv. to the compsn. of the evaporation source 3 is obtd. for the compsn. of the formed thin alloy film. The thin alloy film for recording having the excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance is thus easily produced at a high film forming speed.
