Abstract

PURPOSE:To share plural buffer areas provided on a main storage device between a sequential process and a random process, by linking the buffer area released from the random process to one end of a chain and linking the buffer area released from the sequential process to the other end of the chain. CONSTITUTION:Buffer areas 5 used in case of read of data blocks from an external storage device 7 are selected in order from the buffer area connected to the other end of the chain, and the buffer area released from a random process 3 is linked to one end of the chain, and buffer management like LRU is performed. Since the buffer area released from a sequential process 2 is linked to the other end of the chain, namely, the selection side, the buffer area 5 accessed by the sequential process 2 is more easily reused than the buffer area 5 accessed by the random process 3, and the same buffer area group is shared between the sequential process and the random process.
