Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture an aluminum-plated steel sheet excellent in corrosion resistance, by vacuum-depositing aluminum onto the surface of a steel sheet and also applying argon ion beams to the steel sheet when aluminum vapor is brought into contact with the steel sheet as a base material. CONSTITUTION:In a vapor deposition tank 1 equipped with a vacuum pump 2, aluminum vapor 4 generated from an evaporation tank 5 is vapor-deposited onto a steel sheet 3 to be plated. Simultaneously, argon ion beams 8 generated from an ion beam source 7 equipped with an argon-introducing pipe 6 and a heating body 10 are applied to the steel sheet 3 when the aluminum vapor 4 comes into contact with the steel sheet 3. By this method, an aluminum plating layer which is vapor-deposited on the steel sheet 3 surface and in which aluminum crystal orientation is regulated so that (111) plane is in parallel with the steel sheet plane can be obtained. This plating layer is dense and reduced in pinholes and shown superior corrosion resistance.
