Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the flow velocity of the water permeated from the inside of a hollow yarn membrane to the outside in backwashing and to improve backwashing efficiency by providing plural vents at regular intervals on the upper outer periphery of a filtration chamber. CONSTITUTION:A closed vessel 1 is separated by a tube plate 2 into the filtration chamber 3 and a treated liq. chamber 4, and a hollow yarn membrane module 5 is hung from the tube plate 2 in multiple stages to form the hollow yarn membrane filter. Plural vents 13 are provided at regular intervals on the circumference of the upper side of the filter chamber 3. The distances between the vents 13 and all the hollow yarn membranes 5 are so adjusted as to obtain high backwashing efficiency. By this arrangement the cross-sectional area of the vent 13 can be increased, the pressure drop of the water flowing out in backwashing can be reduced to a minimum, and high backwashing efficiency can be obtained.
