In order to enable bright and uniform viewing of the screen, rear projection screens are generally provided with concentric Fresnel lenses that converge incident light from a light source onto a viewing position. By the way, it is known that Fresnel lenses like this can be manufactured by directly cutting a synthetic resin plate, or by cutting an inverted lens surface into a mold, and then using this mold to transfer the lens surface. It is being However, even when such cutting is performed on synthetic resin surfaces or metal surfaces, the minimum pitch of the grooves that make up the lens is about 0.1 mm.
It has been impossible to make the pitch smaller than this by cutting, except in special cases. Although reducing the pitch in this manner is desired from the standpoint of reducing the moiré phenomenon of Fresnel lenses, it has not been possible to fully meet this demand.

In view of this situation, the present invention attempts to easily manufacture a Fresnel lens by skillfully utilizing the contraction phenomenon caused by heating of a stretched thermoplastic synthetic resin. That is, the gist of the present invention is to form a lens surface by cutting a Fresnel lens into a thermoplastic synthetic resin plate produced by biaxially stretching so that the stretching ratios in the vertical and horizontal directions are equal, The method of manufacturing a Fresnel lens is characterized in that the thermoplastic synthetic resin plate is then heat treated.

FIGS. 1A to 1D are explanatory diagrams showing the manufacturing process of the present invention, and the process will be explained in the following order. FIG. 1A shows a base plate 1A of a thermoplastic synthetic resin plate, and the material used is a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as acrylic resin, polycarbonate resin, or vinyl chloride resin. Fig. 1B shows a stretched plate 1B produced by heating and stretching this original plate 1A in two axial directions with equal stretching ratios in length and width. When such a stretched plate 1B is reheated, the amount of stretching is removed. It is known to shrink and return to its original shape.

FIG. 1C shows a Fresnel lens plate 1C in which a concentric Fresnel lens surface is formed on the stretched plate 1B produced as described above. Formation of such a Fresnel lens surface is performed by cutting, but it can be performed in the same manner as when manufacturing a general Fresnel lens. FIG. 1D shows a Fresnel lens plate 1D obtained by heat-treating the Fresnel lens plate 1C described above. When heated again in this manner, the stretched portion of the Fresnel lens surface is shrunk as shown in FIG. Shrinking the Fresnel lens surface once cut in this way allows the pitch of the lens to be made as small as possible, which is advantageous from the standpoint of preventing moiré phenomena. In addition, when directly cutting the Fresnel lens or cutting the mold surface,
Although minute scratches often occur during cutting, in the present invention, such scratches can be eliminated or significantly reduced because heat treatment is performed after cutting.
