The present invention relates to a terry cloth composed of a bottom warp of hydrophilic material, a weft of hydrophilic material and an additional warp-forming warp.

This additional chain forms loops on the two faces, called upper face and lower face.

The hydrophilic material is generally cotton. The terry cloths must absorb a relatively large amount of water, which they must easily return during spinning.

So far it has always been believed that this property, that is to say good absorption and good return of a relatively large amount of water, could only be obtained provided that the additional chain is fully hydrophilic material.

It has already been proposed to produce the bottom warp and / or the weft in part or in whole in a non-hydrophilic material, for example in a synthetic material such as polyester. There was however a prejudice against the use of synthetic material for the additional chain.

However, it has been found according to the invention that a terry cloth giving complete satisfaction with regard to the absorption and the restitution of a large quantity of water can be produced even if part of the additional chain is produced in a non-hydrophilic material. The use of a non-hydrophilic material for the threads of the additional warp which form the loops on one side of the fabric may be indicated, in particular because the touch thus produced is preferred or because the 'side formed by these loops allows you to make an impression that is not possible with a side made of cotton loops.

To this end, according to the invention, the threads of the additional chain which form the loops on one of the faces are made of a synthetic material, the threads of the additional warp which form the loops on the other side being of a hydrophilic material.

In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the aforementioned synthetic material is polyester.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, sublimation transfer printing is applied to the face comprising the loops of synthetic material.

The invention also relates to a manufacturing method for producing the terry cloth defined above.

According to the invention, a terry cloth is woven with a bottom warp of hydrophilic material, a weft of hydrophilic material and an additional warp consisting of threads of synthetic material forming loops on one side and of threads of hydrophilic material. forming loops on the other side and applying a sublimation transfer printing on the side containing the loops of synthetic material.

As is known, the threads before weaving and / or the fabric can be subjected to bleaching and dyeing operations.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the fabric is subjected before printing to a dyeing operation carried out in such a way that only the hydrophilic material is soaked with the coloring material.

Other details and features of the invention will become apparent from the description of a terry cloth and its manufacturing process according to the invention, given below by way of non-limiting example.

It should be noted that this combination of cotton threads (bottom warp, part of the additional warp 'forming the loops on the underside and weft) and polyester yarn (part of the additional warp forming the loops on the upper face) has allowed to achieve a hydrophilic characteristic sufficient for a terry cloth, more particularly for such a cloth to be used as a hand towel.

It should be noted that a fabric of the kind defined above was produced contrary to the prejudice that it was not possible to produce a terry fabric giving satisfaction as a towel with a part of it. an additional chain forming loops of a synthetic material such as polyester, i.e. in a hydrophobic material.

We have already made terry cloth partially in polyester. This material was however used either for the bottom warp or for the weft, in order to obtain a more resistant and more durable fabric, but before the present invention it was never realized that it was also possible to make a terry cloth which is satisfactory as a hand towel and which has particular advantages with an additional chain partially made of a synthetic material, for example polyester.

A very particular advantage of the fabric in question is that it allows certain complementary treatments, such as sublimation transfer printing on the face having the loops of synthetic material, for example polyester.

The operations to which the fabric is subjected are the following: firstly a bleaching, secondly a dyeing and finally a printing.

The dyeing is carried out in such a way that only the cotton is soaked with the coloring matter.

The polyester is thus slightly discolored and the two sides of the terry cloth consequently have different colors.

Sublimation-based transfer printing is applied to the upper side of the terry cloth. Such an impression could not be achieved on a fabric whose loops are 100% cotton. The transfer is made with polyester but does not happen with ·. the cotton. Fixing the transfer technique is only possible with polyester or with a thread of this kind.

It should be understood that the invention is in no way ‘limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made without departing from the scope of this patent application.

For example, polyester can be replaced by another synthetic material allowing the application of sublimation transfer printing.

Whitening does not necessarily have to be applied to the fabric; it can be applied to the threads before weaving.

Claims (9)
