Abstract

The subject of the application is a method of oxidizing geraniol in the presence of a catalyst, consisting in mixing geraniol with a catalyst in an amount from 0.5% by weight to 5% by weight of geraniol at atmospheric pressure, with a stirring intensity of 500 rpm, in an atmosphere of oxygen supplied from a cylinder through a sparger using an oxygen flow of 40 ml/minute, for a time from 15 minutes to 360 minutes. The essence of the invention is characterized in that powdered diatomite is used as the catalyst. The process is carried out at a temperature of 70°C - 100°C. Preferably, powdered diatomite with the composition: K 0.159%, Ti 0.119%, Fe 0.849%, Al 1.116%, Si 37.272%, and Ca 0.403% is used. Preferably, geraniol is introduced into the glass reactor first, then the catalyst, and finally oxygen is introduced through a sparger.
