ISAAC GELLER, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
METALLIC BED.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Isaac GELLER, a citizen of Russia, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic eds, of which the following a specification.
rThe present invention pertains to metallic beds, and has for its object to provide an economical, convenient and neat means of attaching the side rails, and also the end railsor braces, to the bedpost.
)t further object is to dispense with heavy castings.r uponthe post and upon the rail and to provide a light and cheap bracket, which is neat in appearance, and effective for the purpose designed.
I accomplish these and other objects by the mechanism illustrated in 'the accompanying drawingsl in which- Figure 1 is a plan view showing a post in section, with a portion of a side rail attached. Also a portion of an end-rail in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a post showing the end rail in full lines. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the inner face of the attaching bracket for the side-rail with a fragment of the post in dotted lines. Fig. -t is a similar view of the end rail bracket. Fig. is a vertical section of a portion of a tubular post showing an attaching pin in place. ldig. (S is a transverse section of Fig. 5, showing the parts in detail.
Vefcrring to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a tubular bedpost, having formed at the proper height for the side rail apertures S, 2 represents a side rail, having a bracket 3 lformed of sheet steel and stamped in suitable design, with the body thereof adapted to tit against the side of the rail to which it is secured by the bolts (3 held in place by means. of nuts T. The head et of the bracket is shaped in conformity to the post, and at the median line thereof are secured pins 5 in suitable apertures, by means of the screw threaded shank 1G, upon which is secured a cap 9 to give a neat finish to the structure.
The pinheads 5 will be inserted through the aperture S of the post, and the neck 15 will be pressed into the converging slot 14 opening downwardly from each of the open- Speccaton of Letters Patent.

ings 5. The inner face of the pinhead 5 also is inclined toward the bracket, so that as the pins are pressed home in their slots, the latter will bind laterally upon the necks 15, and the heads 5 will bind transversely upon the metal of the post. In this manner the rail will be firmly anchored in the post. Since the head of the bracket partially embraces the post the rail will be securely held from rotar-57 movement. Upon the end-rail 11, a similar bracket 13 will be used, and in this a single pin or stud 5 held in the head thereof by the screw cap 9a enters an aperture 8a formed as above described, where it is securely anchored, in the slot 14e. In this case I have formed the bracket integrally with the angle iron rail bent as required at 12 to properly engage the post; but it is obvious that a` separate bracket may be secured upon the rail by rivets, or in any usual manner.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a tubular post having apertures formed therein from the lower side of each of which is formed a converging slot, with an angular rail, a bracket secured upon the rail, a head formed upon the bracket adapted to partially embrace the post, and pins secured in the head of the bracket adapted to enter said aperture and engage in said slots to bind upon the post.
Q. The combination of a tubular post having apertures formed therein from the lower side of each of which is formed a converging slot, with an angular rail, a bracket upon the end of the rail, a head formed on the bracket conforming to and embracing the side of the post, a pin secured in the head of the bracket the shank of which is adapted to engage in one of said slots, and a head formed on the pin the inner face of which inclines toward the bracket for binding the bracket upon the post.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC GELLER.
