lie it known that l, Domenico l lvxx enir is'rx, a subject of the King of Italy, rcsidinp; in the borough o1 Manhattan, city of New York, and State ot New Yoi'l-r. have invented certain new and use'ti'd Improvements in Apparatus for Stepping Trains, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to systems for stopping trains, both electric and steam, and has for its main object to provide improved means whereby trains at crossings and on the same. track will be prevented automati- -allv from collision.
My invention also embodies certain minor details of construction in the apparatus vfor accomplishinggthe main object of the invention. as will be hereinafter more definitely pointed out and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic plan view of a railway track crossing, showing my improved train stopping apparatus in operative position in respect thereto.

Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views.
In the said drawing, and referring more particularly to Fi". 1, the reference numerals 1 indicate the rails of a railway track, and 2 the rails of a similar track crossing the tracks 1 at an angle thereto. The lines formed by the. tracks 1 and 2 will be equipped similarly with my improved train stop-ping apparatus, and a description of one of the same willbe understood to apply equally to the other. Thus, between tracks 1 to the left is a base plate 3, upon which is pivoted at 4 a cross trip ping lever .5, having a projection 6 thereon, adapted to be contacted with by a suitable tripper on the engine of a train moving from left to right, said lever 5 being normally retracted to the position shown in Fig. 1 by a suitable coiled spring 7, and being adapted to be moved at its free end toward the right by the action of the trip- Specification of Letters Patent.

The rod 11 extends across the crossing beyond the bell-crank 13 and is in alinenient. with a head 29 fixed to a lever 30 pivoted at 31, and at its opposite end connected by a rod 32 with a bar 33, that in turn connected to a lever 34, pivoted at 35 to a base plate 36, and provided with a projection 37 at its free end, said lever be ing normally retained in the position shown in Fig. 1 by a spring 38.
The operation of these portions of the apparatus is as follows :A train moving from left to right on the track 1, will, in passing over the lever 5, and by contact of its tripper with the projection 6 thereon,
