Description
o. H. MOORE WASH BASIN.
No. 243,718. Patented July 5,1881.
N. PETERS. Fhalwlilhagmphnr. Washington. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHAR-LES H MOORE, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
WASH- BASIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,718, dated July 5, 1881.
Application filed September 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAS. H. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Slab and Wash-Basin, of which the following is a specification.
.My object is to insure security in a wash-basin against the return of gases from the drain, and to provide a simple means of removing the operative elements.
It consists of a wash-basin, a slab, and an outlet-chamber, made in one piece, with a float operating in the outlet-chamber, and a soapdish fitted in the surface-openin g of said chamber.
It also consists of a plug-valve fitted in an independent valve-seat secured in the bottom of the outlet-chamber.
In the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a central vertical section. Fig. 2 represents a top view.
A shows the slab, A the bowl, and B an enlarged chamber, adapted to contain a soapdish, in the surface-opening, and extending downward to the outlet. This chamber has a float operating in it, and is shaped at the lower end to receive an independent seat for the plug-valve to operate in. This valve-seat b has a shank on it, and is secured to the end of chamber B with a lock-nut; or some other simple means to fasten it could be used to allow its easy removal. 1
The float H, operating in the chamber B, is intended to lift the valve 0 in case of any accidental increase of water in the basin; and the channel j, which is most applicable to bath-tubs, is intended as an auxiliary to supply the outlet or float chamber B. v
B is a countersunk outlet of the basin A, into which a movable strainer, E, is fitted to afford access to the passage (3.
G represents a soap-dish fitted in the open chamber B, having a passage through it for the spindle of the plug-valveto operate in. The ports NNshown in the slab areto secure faucets to supply the basin.
Having described my invention,whatIc1aim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The slab A, having one or more ports in it to secure the faucets, the bowl A, and the chamber B, extending vertically downward from the slab toward the valve-seat, allmade in one piece, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a water-basin and a slab having one or more ports in it to secure the faucets, a chamber formed with the slab and extending vertically downward toward the valve-seat.
3. In combination, a water-basin the rim or top surface'of which is formed square, and having a strainer secured in the bottom, and a chamber formed with the basin or rim and extending from the rim ormargin of the basin downward toward the valve-seat.
4.. In combination, a water-basin having an independent or separate strainer fitted in it, and the chamber B, formed with the basin and having an independent valve-seat secured to the bottom.
5. In the outlet-chamber of a water-basin, an independent valve-seat fitted in the bottom, and having a shank extending through the bottom and secured by-means of a lock-nut, as and for the purpose set forth.
6. In combination with a water-basin, and the outlet-chamber of said basin, and a float operating in the outlet-chamber, the channel f, asand for the purpose set forth.
7. In combination, the slab A, having one or more ports to secure the faucets, the basin A, the passage 0, and the outlet-chamber B, extending vertically downward from the slab toward the valve-seat, and shaped at the bottom to receive an independent valve-seat, all made in one piece, substantially as shown.
8. A basin-slab providedwith a soap-dish, in combination with a valve-chamber and a valve-spindle, said spindle working through an opening in the soap-dish. Y
