Be it known that I, YVILLIAM D. TOMPKINS, of Floyd Oou rtHouse, Floyd county, Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grub-Pullers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, in which is represented in perspective my improved device as applied to a grub or ro stump to be pulled.

My invention will be first fully described,

and afterward pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing, A is an arm, pivoted'atzvto another arm, B, which may pass through the arm A,or'loe pivoted on one side thereof. The arms are each provided at their outer ends with toothed jaws c and b, the former being curved, as shown, so that it will embrace the grub or stump, and having its teeth a point ing substantially downward. The jaw b is provided with teeth Z1,pointing downward on crum d rests on its end nearest the grub. As the grub rises, the work becomes lighter and the fulcrum rolls, making the weight end 5 longer and the power end shorter, so that the grub can be quickly raised.

The whole device forms, as it were, one leverwhen the arm B is ln'oughtdowninto contact with the arm A, and the fulcrum d acts a e as afulcrurn for the lever.

The advantage and ease of operation will be apparent at a glance.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

l. A grub-puller consisting of two arms pivoted together, one of them being provided with a curved toothed jaw to encircle the grub, and the other having teeth projecting radially to said curved jaw, a rolling fulcrum, and a foot-support, as set forth.

2. The grub-puller herein described, con sisting of arms A and B, the latter having a toothed end to engage the grub, and a handle,

B, and the former having a curved toothed jaw, a, to encirclethe grub, a rolling fulcrum, and a foot-rest, d as set forth.
