Abstract

A body shirt for men is disclosed. A crotch strap extends from the rear shirttail and is detachably secured to each of the front shirttails. The securing device for the crotch strap is multipositioned to accommodate wearers who have different torso lengths but wear the same size shirt. The rear of the crotch strap forms a seat and retains the rear shirttail snugly adjacent the wearer. The front of the crotch strap includes interleaved members, which members can be spread apart to form an opening.

The front of the crotch strap includes interleaved members, which members can be spread apart to form an opening 6 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures BODY SHIRT FOR MEN The present invention relates to body shirts, and more particularly, to body shirts for men.

Conventional mens shirts include a substantial amount of material forming'the front and rear shirttails, which material is necessary to retain the shirt within the wearers pants during normal expected movement. With present fashion trends directed to hip-hugger pants, it is almost impossible to maintain the shirttails within the pants for several reasons. First, the shirttails cannot be very long without having the front shirttails extending into the pant legs and the rear shirttail bunching in the seat of the pants. Further, the bunching of the rear shirttail would derogate from present fashion trends to create an illusion of slimness. Second, in warm climates it is preferable to wear as few clothes as possible without sacrificing either modesty or comfort. It therefore becomes prudent to have a single garment serve as many purposes as possible.

There are presently available in the marketplace body shirts for women. These body shirts, in the form of pullover blouses, includes a first crotch strap extending from the rear panel and a second crotch strap extending from the front panel. Snaps are disposed at the ends of these straps to permit them to be fastened to one another. These womens body shirts serve the benefits enumerated above except that they are not useable by men. Further, they cannot be used for blouses or shirts which button down the front.

It is therefore a primary object of the present invention to provide a body shirt for men.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a body shirt for men which eliminates the need for briefs.

A yet another object of the present invention is to provide a body shirt for men which shirt buttons down the front.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a body shirt for men adaptable to any style shirt.

A further object of the present invention is to provide means for retaining the shirttails within the pants.

A yet further object of the present invention is to provide a body shirt for men which can accommodate a range of torso lengths.

These and other objects of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art as the description thereof proceeds.

The present invention may be described with more specificity and clarity with reference to the following figures in which:

FIG. I is a perspective view of a body shirt incorporating the present invention;

FIG. 2 is a detailed view of the attachment of the crotch strap of the present invention;

FIG. 3 is a detailed view of the rear panel of the crotch strap of the present invention;

FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the crotch strap taken along lines 44, as shown in FIG. 3.

In FIG. 1 there is shown the body shirt 1 of the present invention. The body shirt 1 includes a shirt having a conventional body 2, collar 3, and sleeves 4 and 5. The style of the shirt is intended to be representative of any style and does not derogate from the present invention.

The front shirttails 6 and 7 may be of conventional configuration. The rear shirttail 8, however, has been adapted to include a crotch strap 10 extending therefrom. I

As shown more clearly in FIG. 2,crotch strap 10 is secured to the lower central extremity of rear shirttail 8. The point of attachment may be an arced seam 11 as shown, or it may be straight. If seam 11 is arced, a better conformation to the body of the wearer and hence a more snug fit is obtained. In addition, a length of elastic (27 and 28) may be secured to the lateral edges of seat 16 to urge the seat to conform to the wearers body.

The extremity of crotch strap 10 includes a pair of

12 and 13 of male snaps. Rows l2 and 13 are disposed in proximity to the lateral sides of crotch strap 10 and extend away from the extremity of the crotch strap. A female snap 14 is secured to front shirttail 6 and mates with one of the male snaps in row 12. Similarly, a female snap 15 is secured to front shirttail 7 and mates with one of the male snaps in row 13 (see FIG. 3).

As shown in FIG. 3, crotch strap 10 is formed of two parts, seat 16 and front section 17. Seat 16 and front section 17 are joined to one another at seam 18 with the crotch strap en toto being joined to rear shirttail 8 at seam 11, as discussed above. Seat 10, which may be lined, is relatively wide in order to accommodate any loads imposed upon the crotch strap 10 without imposing an uncomfortable concentration of stresses. The width of the seat also tends to preclude any chaffing as a result of normal expected body movements.

The front section 17 is formed of two interleaved V- shaped members (see FIG. 4). Member 20 includes a front panel 22 joined to a similarly shaped lining 24 along seam 23. The lateral edges 25 and 26 of panel 22 and lining 24, respectively, are bound over in accordance with accepted sewing techniques. Member 21' includes a panel 30 and a lining 31 joined to one another at seam 32. The

33 and 34 of panel 30 and lining 31, respectively, are bound over in accordance with accepted sewing techniques.

Seams l8 and 19, disposed at either end of front section 17, secure

members

20 and 21 to one another. The positional relationship therebetween is such that edges 25 and 26 of member 20 are disposed interior to the envelope described by panel 30 and lining 31 of member 21. The degree of overlap, that is, the degree of insertion of member 20 within member 21 must be sufficient to preclude inadvertent separation between two members during normal expected body movements of the wearer. However, the longitudinal length of front section 17 in combination with the degree of overlap between

members

20 and 21 must be such that the panels can be separated at will and without discomfort to the wearer.

In operation, the body shirt 1 is doned in the normal manner, including the buttoning of the front buttons. The crotch strap 10 is grasped and secured to each of the front shirttails 6 and 7 by

12 and 13, respectively. The plurality of evenly spaced snaps in

rows

12 and 13 permit the wearer to adjust the crotch strap for a comfortable fit. When putting on his pants, the wearer would tuck in the front shirttails 6 and 7 without having to worry about tucking in the rear shirttail as it is snugly retained adjacent to the body by crotch strap 10. During normal bending and stretching, the rear shirttail would have no tendency to be pulled out of the pants as it is snugly retained adjacent the body of the wearer by the crotch strap 10. Similarly, front shirttails 6 and 7 are retained within the pants by the

snaps

14 and 15 securing the front panels to the crotch strap. Thus, the present invention not only eliminates the need for the wearer to wear briefs but maintains the shirttails tucked within the pants.

While the principles of the invention have now been made clear in an illustrative embodiment, there will be immediately obvious to those skilled in the art many modifications of structure, arrangement, proportions, the elements, materials, and components, used in the practice of the invention which are particularly adapted for specific environments and operating requirements without departing from those principles.

I claim:

l. A body shirt for men having a rear shirttail and a pair of front shirttails, said body shirt comprising in combination:

a. a crotch strap secured to the lower extremity of the rear shirttail, said crotch strap including a seat and a two part front section;

b. a pair of members forming each of said two parts of said front section, each said pair of members slidably receiving the other of said pair of members in an interleaving manner to permit each said part of said front section to be joined to and separated from one another; and

c. securing means for detachably securing said front section to each of the front shirttails; whereby, said crotch strap retains the rear and front shirttails of said body shirt adjacent the body of the wearer without discomfort or restriction.

2. The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 1 wherein said seat includes elastic disposed along either side of said seat to urge said seat to conform to the body of the.

wearer.

3. The body shirt as set forth in claim 1 wherein each of said pair of members includes a lining and a panel, said lining and said panel being joined together along a first lateral side, the cross-section of each of said joined lining and panel defining a V with the open end of said V defining a second lateral side of each of said member; and, said second lateral side of each said pair of members being disposed off-center of said front section.

4. The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 3 wherein said second lateral side of one of said members is disposed within said V of the other of said pair of members.

5. The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 4 wherein said securing means comprises a pair of columns of male snaps,.one of said columns being disposed at each side of said front section; and a female snap disposed in each of said front shirttails; whereby, the length of said crotch strap secured intermediate the rear shirttail and the front shirttails is adjustable.

6. The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 5 wherein said seat includes elastic disposed along either side of said seat to urge said seat to conform to the body of the wearer.

Claims

1. A body shirt for men having a rear shirttail and a pair of front shirttails, said body shirt comprising in combination: a. a crotch strap secured to the lower extremity of the rear shirttail, said crotch strap including a seat and a two part front section; b. a pair of members forming each of said two parts of said front section, each said pair of members slidably receiving the other of said pair of members in an interleaving manner to permit each said part of said front section to be joined to and separated from one another; and c. securing means for detachably securing said front section to each of the front shirttails; whereby, said crotch strap retains the rear and front shirttails of said body shirt adjacent the body of the wearer without discomfort or restriction.

2. The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 1 wherein said seat includes elastic disposed along either side of said seat to urge said seat to conform to the body of the wearer.

The bodyshirt as set forth in claim 4 wherein said securing means comprises a pair of columns of male snaps, one of said columns being disposed at each side of said front section; and a female snap disposed in each of said front shirttails; whereby, the length of said crotch strap secured intermediate the rear shirttail and the front shirttails is adjustable.
