UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY B. CORNISH, OF JACKSON, TENNESSEE.
COFFEE-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,671, dated April 1, 1890.
Application filed August 16, 1889. Serial No. 320,986. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, HARRY B. CoRNIsH, of Jackson, in the county of Madison and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and Improved Coffee-Pot, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to that class of coffeepots in which an infusion-vessel is supported in the main outer vessel and provided with a strainer, which supports the ground coffee and through which the water percolatcs. I
The invention consists in the novel details and combination of parts hereinafter particularly described, and defined in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of a coffee-pot embodying my present improve ment, and Fig. 2 is an inverted plan View of the inner vessel and strainer.
Referring to the parts of my improved coffee-pot, A represents the main outer vessel, of any approved form and dimensions and provided with a handle A and spout A as usual. The infusionvessel B is formed with an open top and bottom, and. is supported in the vessel A by the annular bead b, which rests on the upper edge of vessel A. To the lower edge of the vessel B 011 the inside of the latter is fixedly secured by soldering or otherwise an upwardly curved or arched skeleton frame consisting of arms 0 C. The skeleton frame thus formed serves as a support for the strainer-cloth D, which is placed thereon from the top of the vessel B, the said strainercloth being held tightly in place by a removable clamping band or ring E, which ring, like the infusion-vessel B, tapers toward the bottom and fits tightly within the latter vessel. Thus constructed, the cloth is positively held in place and cannot possibly be dislodged by the pressure of the water being poured therein, which is liable to take place in coffee-pots wherein the supporting-frame of the strainer-cloth is formed separately from the infusion-vessel and inserted in the latter from the bottom.
To enable the clamping band or ring E to be readily removed and inserted, the same is provided with a cross-bar E, which serves as a handle.
The above construction also promotes cleanliness by affording ready access to all its parts for cleaning the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' The combination, in a coffee-pot, of the open-ended tapering infusion-vessel B, the lower end of which is the smaller, an upwardly-arched frame in the said lower end, and the tapering clamping-ring E, inserted in the said in fusion-vessel through its upper end and serving to clamp the straining-cloth around the arched frame, substantially as set forth.
