TJS. SLAUGHTER, Jr. SUSPBNDER ATTACHMENT FOR TROUSERS.
No. 535,227; Patented Mar. 5, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT UEErcE,
THOMAS S. SLAUGHTER, JR, OF ()LATHE, KANSAS.
SUSPENDER ATTACHMENT FOR TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 535,227, dated March 5, 1 895. Application filed January 2, 1895, Serial No. 533,573- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. SLAUGHTER, J r., a citizenof the United States, and a resident of Olathe, in the county of Johnson, in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender Attachments for Elastic Suspenders for Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is fourfold: first, to enable the wearer to separate his suspenders from his trousers fastenings by a simple and speedy movement; second, to enable him to re-attach same, with equal ease and facility; third, to secure a free, sliding, curvilinear movement of the suspender ends in harmony with the corresponding movements of the wearers body, and, fourth, to reduce the wear and tear of trousers buttons fastenings to a minimum; all of which will more fully appear herein, reference beinghad to the drawing, which is hereto annexed and made a part of this specification.
The figure is a view of my device.
I secure the first and second objects by providing, and through the operation of, the sheet metal hook A having the eyelet e engaging the pendent chain omeans for controlling its release and re-attachment from and to the bar B-and having the tongue f curving upward and inward closely approaching the body m, its end being bent backward to facilitate the entry of the bar B within said hook A; and the curved bar B having tapering extremities turned upward and backward toward said bar B, forming hooks or clamps, h, h.
The third object is attained through the combination of said sheet metal hook A, with the curved bar B, the latter being loosely suspended within the former, as shown in the figure, thereby permitting the hookA to slide to and fro curvilinearly along said bar B in response to the impulses communicated to the suspender end by the lateral motions of the wearers body, the curviform shape of the bar B being adapted to secure engagement of the hook Aat, or near, the central portion of said bar B, when said hook A is at rest.
The fourth object is attained by means of the hooks or clamps h, h, at either extremity of the bar B, adapted to clasp the fastening of the button j, j, firmly, between the button 7', j, and trousers waistband is, k.
Method of operation:-Secure attachment to rear end of elastic suspenders by ordinary loop (a convenient form being that shown in the figure, 1') around loop d, so that the tongue f is nearest wearers body. Attach hooks or clamps h, h, to fastening of waistband buttons on either side by passing hook or clamp h, it, between button and waistband and around said fastening, giving the bar 13 a firm pull so as to force the buttons fastening securely within the clamp h, h. Secure like attachment to each end of suspenders in front, in like manner,'securing curved bar B on either side of front waistband to its appropriate pair of buttons in the manner described above and as shown in the figure, h, h, j, j. To release suspender at each end from trousers, pull chain a downward and outward until hook A is released from bar B, then let go. To reattach, pull chain c outward and downward until tongue f is below bar B, then press chain c inward against body until opening between tonguef and body an is directly under bar B, then let go and the hook A will immediately pass upward and re-engage bar B as before.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The attachment for elastic suspenders for trousers, consisting of the curved bar B, with tapering extremities turned upward and backward toward said bar B forming hooks or clamps h, h, and the sheet metal hook A having near its upper extremity the slot d, and the loop 9, and having at its lower extremity the eyelet e engaging the chain c, and having the tongue fturned upward and near its end inward closely approaching, but not engaging, the hook shank m, the end of said tongue being bent backward; said hook A engaging and loosely suspending said bar B at or near its middle, and adapted to slide freely and curvilinear-1y along said bar B, substantially as shown and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the curved bar B, having tapering extremities turned upward and backward toward said bar B forming hooks or clamps h, h, with the sheet metal hook A having near its upper extremity the slot at and the loop 9, and having at its lower extremity the eyelet e engaging the chain c, and having the tongue f turned upward and near its end inward closely approaching, but
not engaging, the hook shank m, the end of my invention I have signed my name, in press said tongue f being bent backward; said hook ence of two witnesses, this 29th day of Decem- 10 A engaging and loosely suspending said bar ber, A. D. 1894. B at or near its middle, and adapted to slide 5 freely and eurvilinearly along said barB, sub- THOMAS SLAUGHTER stantialiy as shown and for the purpose set WVitnesses: forth and specified. v S. D. SCOTT,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as S. P. HOWLAND.
