UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL GAUTIER, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
KINETOG RAPHIC CA M ERA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 595,620, dated December 14, 1897.
Application filed March 3,1897. $erial No. 625,811. (No model.) Patented in Belgium J'anuaryll, 1896 No. 125,671; in France September 11, 1896, No. 259,599, and in England J'anuaryl, 1897, No. 212.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL GAUTIER, of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Intermittently-Moving Apparatus for Taking or Displaying Photographs, (patented to me in France September 11, 1896, No. 259,599; in Belgium January 11, 1896, No. 125,671, and in England January 4,1897, No. 212,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to intermittentlymoving apparatus for taking or displaying photographs of moving objects, as will be described, referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2 a side view, of the moving parts of apparatus ac cording to this invention. Fig. 3 is a view of detail.
The invention consists of an intermittentlymoving apparatus for taking or displaying photographs in which the film is drawn along a guide-passage by a cylinder operated by a clockwork mechanism.
Between two sideplates 1 and 2 suitable clockwork is arranged to give intermittent rotary movement to a cylinder A, furnished with pins 0,, which pierce the film, drawing it alonga guide-passage S and between the cylinder and the movable segmentF to the guide The clockwork drives the spindle P, having on it a disk B, with crank-pin N, which is connected by link 0 to a lever D, pivoted on the axis of A and carryinga pawl H, which engages aratchet-wheel 3, fixed on the axis of A, thus advancing the cylinders step by step, while the pawl I prevents it from moving backward. A third pawl G engages another oppositely-toothed ratchet-wheel 4, also fixed on the axis of A. The leverD has a projection M, which at a certain part of its stroke pushes an arm L, fixed to the pawl G, thus disengaging G from the ratchet-wheel 4:.
As the spindle P revolves the link 0 reciprocates. As it ascends the pawl H moves over one tooth of the ratchet-wheel 3 and engages withthe next, the projection M at this time acting on L and disengaging the pawl G from the ratchet-wheel 4:, and then as G descends the cylinder A is turned one tooth. While 0 ascends again. the cylinder Ais held stationary by both pawls G and I, and the action is continuously repeated. Thus the film is held stationary during the ascent of the rod 0 and moves only during its descent.
Having now particularly described and ascert-aimed the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. In intermittently-moving apparatus for taking or displaying photographs, the combination of clockwork driving a crank having a link connected to a pawl-lever engaging a ratchet-wheel on the axis of a pinned cylinder moving the film, the pawl-lever being arranged to disengage, as the link ascends, a second lever having a pawl which engages an oppositely-toothed wheel on the axis of the cylinder and operating as the link descends to move the cylinder one tooth to a position in which during the ascent of the link it is held by the second pawl and by a third pawl preventing back movement, substantially as described.
2. In combination the feeding-passages S and S, the cylinder A adapted to engage the film to draw it through the passage, a disk B, means for rotating the same, and an operating connection between the disk and cylin der A, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL GAUTIER.
