Be it known that I, AUGUST ALLGOEVER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Skirt-Protector, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to protectors for the bottom of dress-skirts to prevent the wearing or fraying of the skirt edge; and one object of the invention is to provide a protector having more durability than others now in use; and a further object is to so construct the protector that its lower portion will be prevented froin straightening out of its desired position, which is substantially at right ,angles to the body portion.

I will describe a skirt-protector embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,

, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a protector embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a similar view, but showing the same as applied to the bottom of a dress-skirt.

The protector comprises a body portion or web 1 of textile material, preferably Waterproof. The lower portion of the body is turned laterally, as at 2, and thence laterally in the other direction, as at 3, and then back to the body portion, where it is secured by any desired means-such, for instance, as by the employment of rubber cement. The portions 2 and 3 form shoulders which normally extend substantially at right angles to the body portion, and in the fold of these portions 2 and 3 is a core 4 of flexible material-such, for instance, as rubber, leather, or the like.

The flat core 4, it will be seen, extends laterally of the body portion 1 at both'sides, and therefore it serves to hold the bottom portion of the. protector in the desired shape, as in dicated in the drawings.

The protector is designed to be secured to the bottom of a skirt, with the lateral projection or shoulder 3 engaging under the edge of the skirt, as indicated in Fig. 2. This shoulder 3, it will be noted, is somewhat wider than the shoulder 2 and Will project somewhat beyond the skirt material.

In the bindings or protectors as ordinarily madethat is, without the additional shoulder 2-when rolled for packing to store it up for transportation such binding is flattened out and will not always and in every place of its length regain its original form, which is necessary to its usefulness. It is the shoulder 2 (shown in the drawings) which serves asan offset against this too-often-observed occurrence, for before the shoulder 3 can be unbent the shoulder 2 must be pressed upward with an equal force or effort necessary to open the other side.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A skirt-protector, comprising a flat flexible core, and a body having an upright portion and a port-ion folded'about the core, whereby lateral shoulders are formed at substantially right angles to and upon opposite sides of the body portion, one shoulder being wider than the other, the said core being extended into each shoulder.
