To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLIFTON Wnsr, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Poole, in the county of Dorset, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Smokers following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to enable a pipe, cigar, or cigarette to be smoked with greater comfort, ease, and safety, and under a greater variety of circumstances than has been possible heretofore. For this purpose I provide a metal or other box or casing, of suitable shape and design, for the reception of the bowl portion of the pipe, or the holder of the cigar or cigarette; or one such box or casing may be arranged for the reception of either or all of these articles. The stem of the pipe-bowl, or of the cigar or cigarette holder is arranged to project through suitable openings in the box or casing, and is adapted to receive one end of a flexible tube of convenient length, at the other end of which flexible tube is attached a mouthpiece.

In the accompanying drawings Figures 1, 3 and 5 are views showing the interior arrangements of three different boxes or casings and their fittings constructed according to my invention and Figs. 2 and 4 are transverse sectional views of Figs. 1 and 3 respectively, but showing the pipe bowl in the one case, and the cigar in the other, in two different positions with reference to the box or casing. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of the pipe bowl shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of Fig] 5.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, a is the box or casing which may be of metal or other suitable material, preferably furnished with a hinged lid 1) which may if desired be arranged to open or close with a spring and be fastened by any convenient form of clip or fastening.

c is a pipe-bowl removably fitted into the compartment d formed by the partition e. The stem f of the bowl 0 passes through a hole in the end of the box or casing a when in use, as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, but when not in use may be turned into the position shown in dotted lines in.the same figure.

Figs. 3 and 4 show how my invention may be applied for smoking a cigar or cigarette. In Fig. 3 the cigar m is shown resting in suitable notches formed for the purpose in the partition n, the cigar or cigarette holder 0 beingpassed through a hole in one end of the box or casinga, the perforations covered by the cap 76 being in the opposite end thereof. Fig. 4 also shows how a cigar or cigarette may be smoked indoors, the holder 0 being supported on one of the partitions n by a spring or other clip 19 and the box or casinga with its lid 6 serving to catch the ash as it falls from the cigar m or cigarette.

Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate my invention applied for the purpose of smoking either a pipe 0, or cigar m, or a cigarette, the compartment 9 being intended to contain a supply of tobacco and the compartment r to contain matches.

perfect safety while the In using my invention the bowl 0 of the pipe, with the flexible tube g attached thereto, is charged with tobacco and lighted in the usual manner. The bowl 0 is then placed in position within the box or casing a as shown clearly in Fig. 1. The lid b is then closed and the box or casing placed in the smokers pocket or in any other desired position, the tube g extending from the stem of the bowl 0 outside the box or casing a to the smokers mouth. Smoking is thereby rendered possible under all circumstances, and is not affected by rough weather or other like conditions. The weight of the pipe is not carried by the teeth or lips of the smoker, and there is no danger of sparks or ash falling from the bowl, or blowing into the faces of others, and causing damage, inconvenience, or risk of fire, as has been the case heretofore. Cigars and cigarettes may also be similarly smoked in the closed box or casing as hereinbefore described.

Claims 1. A smokers appliance comprising a box, a lid therefor, means in the box for holding a pipe or cigar holder, compartments in the box for containing smoking requisites, said box having air openings therein and an opening for the passage of the mouthpiece of the cigar holder or pipe, and a cap covering the air openings.

2. A smokers appliance comprising a box adapted to hold a cigar holder or pipe, a lid for the box and a clip detachably connected to the box for holding the pipe or cigar holder on the box when the latter is open.
