Abstract

An optical system for displaying an image comprising means for illuminating an object (211) and directing the image light to a display device (205) having an input surface and an output surface. Anamorphic optical means (Ch, Cv) are disposed between the object and the input surface operative to focus one directional component of the image at the input surface and to focus a different directional component of the image at the output surface.
