Abstract

An apparatus and method to implement an improved version of point-to-point (PPP) over the Ethernet (PPPoE) for modem communication between a host computer and a server computer. In a first embodiment, the invention provides a method to use PPPoE to connect a host having an operating system to a server through a computer network. In a second embodiment, the invention provides a computer network using PPPoE to connect a host to a server. In a third embodiment, the invention provides a data processing system using PPPoE.
