(Rosenwald et al., 1999; Oncogene 18: 2507). This initiation factor binds the 5 'CAP structure of eukaryotic mRNAs and thus plays a crucial role in the initiation of translation. It had previously been shown that the overexpression of elF-4E converts normal rodent cells into tumor cells and leads to an increase in transformation parameters in human cells.
