Abstract

A building block (1) has two joining sides (3) and (5), for connecting the building block to building blocks above and/or below it. The bottom joining side (5) is provided with an attachment layer (15), for example an adhesive, that e.g. hardens on exposure to air. The free bottom of the adhesive layer (15) is protected by a removable foil (17) to prevent the adhesive from hardening. This means that the attachment layer no longer has to be applied when the building block is used, so that less skill is needed and so that there is less spillage of adhesive.

Description

Building block provided with an attachment layer as well as a method for the manufacture of a building block.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Field o the invention
The invention relates to a building block comprising two joining sides to connect the building block with building blocks above and/or below it, a front and a rear side and two transverse sides.
Prior art
Such a building block is well known. If this known building block is used, for example to build a wall, a layer of cement is applied to the upper joining side o the building block, after which a further building block is placed on top o he cement layer. A strong connection is obtained between the building blocks once the cement has hardened- The disadvantage of this known building block is that an adhesive has to be applied when it is used. This often results in spillage of adhesive and the process requires a certain amount of skill.
Summary o the invention
An objective of the invention is to provide a building block of the type described in the preamble which can be handled more easily than the known building block. For this purpose;, the building block according to the invention is characterized in that at least one of the joining sides of the building block is at least partly provided with an attachment layer. This means that the attachment layer no longer has to be applied when using the building block, so that no or in any event less skill is needed in its use and no or appreciably less spillage occurs, The attachment layer can for example consist of a double- sided adhesive tape or an adhesive, which e.g. hardens under pressure, etc. Also an adhesive layer can be used that adheres on the addition of water.
Building blocks are also known that are stacked dry when used. These known building blocks must have a very regular measure to ensure that the building blocks in a course lie in a very accurate horizontal plane when stacked. This sets high requirements for the production process, which makes these known building blocks relatively expensive.
An embodiment o he building block according to the invention which is particularly suitable for stacking is characterized in that the height ofthe building block, including the attachment layer, has an accurate, desired value, If the building block is to be stacked, it is ensured during its production that the measurements of he building block with the attachment layer have the same, accurate, constant values. High specifications therefore do not have to be stipulated for measurement tolerances in the manufacturing process o he rough block, These are satisfied by the application o the attachment layer, which of course has to be done accurately. This is, however, simpler and cheaper than the manufacture of a block with small measurement tolerances. A further embodiment of he building block according to the invention is characterized in that the attachment layer is at any rate partly provided with a protection to protect from the surroundings. This prevents the unwanted attaching ofthe attachment layer to another object when the building block is used. In case an adhesive is used that is sensitive to hardening this can also prevent the adhesive from hardening before the building block is used. The protection could for example be a foil laid over the fiee adhesive side of a double-sided adhesive tape.
The choice of the type of attachment layer and foil and the choice of a building block with or without foil depends on how the building block is to be used, for example if used during building in a situation where the building block is placed incorrectly and has to be removed, or in prefabricated constructions where the building blocks are placed accurately and under ideal conditions on top of each other in a conditioned environment, for example with aid of a robot.
A further embodiment ofthe building block according to the invention is characteri ed in that the attachment layer is completely covered on the free sides by the protective layer. This is desirable with an adhesive that hardens on exposure to air. In this case, a foil for example is laid over all the free sides of the adhesive layer. An adhesive that hardens on exposure to air is for example bricklaying cement. The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of he building block according to the invention.
Brief description ofthe drawings
The invention will be elucidated more fully below on the basis of drawings in which an embodiment o the building block according to the invention Is shown. In these drawings:
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the building block according to the invention in perspective;
Figure 2 shows a front elevation of several ofthe building blocks shown in Figure 1 attached to each other; and
Figure 3 shows a side elevation o the building blocks shown in Figure 2.
Detailed description of the drawings
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the building block according to the invention. The building block 1 has two joining sides 3 and 5, to connect the building block to building blocks above and/or below it. The building block 1 also has a front 7, a rear 9, and two transverse sides 11 and 13. The bottom joining side 5 is provided with an attachment layer 15, for example an adhesive, that e.g. hardens on exposure to air. It is also possible to apply the attacliment layer to the top joining side 3 or to both joining sides and possibly also to one or more transverse sides.
The height 19 o the building block 1 including the attachment layer 17 is arranged accurately during manufacture in order to make the building block 1 suitable for stacking. The measurement tolerances of tho manufactured rough block are fully met by adjusting the thickness of attachment layer 15 to the height of he rough block in order to obtain the desired height 19 accurately.
The free bottom o he adhesive layer 15 is protected by a removable foil 17 to prevent the adhesive from hardening. The foil 1 can be removed by pulling it off the adhesive layer 15. It is also possible to use a foil that is made of a water soluble material. The foil can then be removed by adding water. It is also possible to use a foil that adheres on addition of water.
Figures 2 and 3 show the front and side elevations respectively of several of the building blocks depicted in Figure 1, which are attached to each od er.
Although in the above the inventionϊs explained on the basis ofthe drawings, it should be noted that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiment shown in the drawings within the context defined by the claims. The protection can thus be applied over all the free sides o the attachment layer and can be made as a removable cap, which is present over the whole attachment layer.
