Abstract

Es wird ein Kolben für eine Kaltkammer-Druckgiessmaschine vorgeschlagen, in deren Giesszylinder (3) der Kolben (1) axial verschiebbar eine Druckkammer (5) für Metallschmelze begrenzt. Der Kolben (1) hat einen Kolbenkörper (7) und einen im Bereich der druckkammerseitigen Kolbenstirn in einer äusseren Ringaussparung (19) des Kolbenkörpers (7) fixierten Dichtring (17). Der Kolbenkörper (7) steht druckkammerseitig über den Dichtring axial vor und übergreift den dichtring über Teil seiner radialen Dicke druckkammerseitig radial. Der Kolbenkörper (7) ist zumindest im Bereich seiner Kolbenstirn (15) kühlbar. Der Dichtring (17) ist mit raidialem und axialem Spiel beweglich in der Ringaussparung (19) angeordnet. Ein Vorsprung (43) des Kolbenkörpers (7), der den Dichtring (17) raidal übergreift, begrenzt mit seiner äusseren Umfangsfläche (45) zwischen sich und dem Giesszylinder einen Ringspalt (47), der im Giessbetrieb auf Erstarrungstemperatur kühlbar ist. Die in dem Ringspalt (47) erstarrende Schmelze dichtet den Dichtring (17) zusätzlich ab und verhindert, dass Schmelze in das Bewegungsspiel des Dichtrings (17) oder zwischen den Dichtring (17) und den Giesszylinder (3) gelangt. Der Verschleiss des Dichtrings (17) kann auf diese Weise vermindert werden.
