Abstract

The present invention includes an apparatus including an adaptor body (1) having a first end to be coupled to a rotary device and a second end having a tapered portion, and a tool adaptor (26) dimensioned to fit within the tapered portion, the tool adaptor having a receiving end to receive a tool, such as a bit (14, 18). There is further disclosed a system of securing a tool (104, 133) to a machine spindle using a spring locking system wherein the spring (102, 131, 134) acts directly on the shaft of the tool in order to provide a secure fixing, but allow easy insertion or withdrawal of the tool.
