Abstract

Es wird ein Verfahren zum Zuführen eines in einem Verbrennungsmotor verbrennbaren Mediums, insbesondere eines kryogenen Mediums, wie beispielsweise Wasserstoff, in einen Verbrennungsmotor beschrieben. Erfindungsgemäss das wird Medium vor seiner Zuführung in den Verbrennungsmotor wenigstens auf Umgebungstemperatur, vorzugsweise auf eine Temperatur von 1 wenigstens 500 °C erwärmt und dem Verbrennungsmotor mit einem Druck zwischen 100 und 500 bar zugeführt. Hierbei erfolgt die Erwärmung des Mediums vorzugsweise zumindest teilweise im Wärmetausch mit dem oder einem der Abgasströme des Verbrennungsmotors.

Wirkungsgraderhöhunq von mit Wasserstoff betriebenen Verbrennungsmotoren
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Zuführen eines in einem Verbrennungsmotor verbrennbaren Mediums, insbesondere eines kryogenen Mediums, wie beispielsweise Wasserstoff, in einen Verbrennungsmotor.
Bei gattungsgemäßen Verfahren zum Zuführen eines Mediums, insbesondere eines kryogenen Mediums, in einen Verbrennungsmotor - bisher kommt zu diesem Zweck ausschließlich Wasserstoff zur Anwendung - weisen die ggf. modifizierten Verbrennungsmotoren üblicherweise ein Wasserstoff-Saugrohreinspritzsystem auf, wobei dieses im Wesentlichen den bei herkömmlichen Otto-Motoren verwendeten Saugrohreinspritzsystemen entspricht.
Aufgrund des schlechten Wirkungsgrades derartiger Verbrennungsmotoren mit Wasserstoff-Saugrohreinspritzung werden augenblicklich Versuche mit Common-Rail- Hochdruck-Einspritzsystemen durchgeführt.
Common-Rail-Hochdruck-Einspritzsysteme können zwar den Wirkungsgrad eines Verbrennungsmotors nicht wesentlich verbessern, jedoch kann mit ihnen die Hubraumleistung angehoben werden.
Von Nachteil bei den bisher zur Anwendung kommenden Verbrennungsmotoren mit Wasserstoff-Saugrohreinspritzung ist, dass der gasförmige Wasserstoff im Saugrohr einen beachtlichen Teil der Ansaugluft verdrängt und damit weniger Sauerstoff für die Verbrennung zur Verfügung steht. Dies hat zur Folge, dass die Hubraumleistung von mit Wasserstoff betriebenen Verbrennungsmotoren mit Saugrohreinspritzung deutlich geringer als bei einem Benzin- oder Dieselbetrieb.
Bei einer Hochdruck-Einspritzung des gasförmigen Wasserstoffs in den abgeschlossenen Zylinder - also bei geschlossenem oder geschlossenen
Saugventilen - entfällt dieser Nachteil. Um Verdichtungsarbeit einzusparen, erfolgt die Einspritzung des gasförmigen Wasserstoffs in den abgeschlossenen Zylinder vorteilhafterweise erst knapp vor dem oberen Totpunkt des Kolbens. Die Temperatur der Ansaugluft im oberen Totpunkt beträgt ca. 275 °C. Wird nunmehr kalter Wasserstoff in den Brennraum des Zylinders eingespritzt, wird die Verdichtungstemperatur gesenkt und damit Verdichtungsarbeit vernichtet.
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es,- ein gattungsgemäßes Verfahren zum Zuführen eines Mediums, insbesondere eines kryogenen Mediums in einen Verbrennungsmotor anzugeben, das die vorgenannten Nachteile vermeidet
Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe wird ein gattungsgemäßes Verfahren vorgeschlagen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass das Medium vor seiner Zuführung in den Verbrennungsmotor wenigstens auf Umgebungstemperatur, vorzugsweise auf eine Temperatur von wenigstens 500 °C erwärmt wird und dem Verbrennungsmotor mit einem Druck zwischen 100 und 500 bar, vorzugsweise mit einem Druck zwischen 200 und 300 bar zugeführt wird.
Die Höhe der Temperatur, auf die das dem Verbrennungsmotor zugeführte Medium erwärmt wird, bestimmt sich auch danach, ob das im Brennraum des Zylinders entstehende Luft/Medium-Gemisch fremdgezündet wird oder sich selbst entzünden.
Im Prinzip gilt, dass die Temperatur, auf die das dem Verbrennungsmotor zugeführte Medium erwärmt wird, nicht hoch genug sein kann. Die Temperaturobergrenze bestimmt sich im Einzelfall nach der Art des Mediums sowie der für die Erwärmung des Mediums verfügbaren Energie.
Der erforderliche Einspritzdruck von 100 und 500 bar kann insbesondere bei der Verwendung von flüssigem Wasserstoff als Kraftstoff bereits in dem Wasserstoff- Speicherbehälter in der Flüssigphase vergleichsweise effizient aufgebaut werden.
Entsprechend einer vorteilhaften Ausgestaltung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens zum Zuführen eines Mediums in einen Verbrennungsmotor erfolgt die Erwärmung des Mediums vor der Zuführung in den Verbrennungsmotor zumindest teilweise im Wärmetausch mit dem oder einem der Abgasströme des Verbrennungsmotors. Zu der vorgenannten Ausgestaltung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens sind alternative oder ergänzende Verfahrensweisen denkbar, wie bspw. elektrische Beheizung, Beheizen durch Verbrennen eines Teiles des Mediums, etc. Diese alternativen oder ergänzenden Verfahrensweisen werden zweckmäßigerweise überwiegend während der Startphase des Verbrennungsmotors zur Anwendung kommen.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zum Zuführen eines Mediums in einen Verbrennungsmotor ermöglicht eine Steigerung des Wirkungsgrades eines Verbrennungsmotors bis ca! 50 %; die jeweilige Steigerung des Wirkungsgrades ist jedoch abhängig von dem gewählten Verdichtungsverhältnis sowie dem gewählten Einspritzdruck.
Das vorbeschriebene Konzept ist sinngemäß für alle als Kraftstoffe verwendbaren Medien, die bei den realisierten Temperaturen nicht zerfallen bzw. kracken, anwendbar. Bei diesen Kraftstoffen wird in der Flüssigphase der Druck erhöht und danach vor der Einspritzdüse verdampft.
Bei gasförmigen Kraftstoffen, wie bspw. Erdgas oder GH , kann nur ein Teil der Energie gewonnen werden, da der Kraftstoff gasförmig verdichtet werden muss - allerdings hilft hier der Tankdruck in den Speicherbehältern.

Claims

Patentansprüche
1. Verfahren zum Zuführen eines in einem Verbrennungsmotor verbrennbaren Mediums, insbesondere eines kryogenen Mediums, wie beispielsweise Wasserstoff, in einen Verbrennungsmotor, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Medium vor seiner Zuführung in den Verbrennungsmotor wenigstens auf Umgebungstemperatur, vorzugsweise auf eine Temperatur von wenigstens 500 °C erwärmt wird und dem Verbrennungsmotor mit einem Druck zwischen 100 und 500 bar zugeführt wird.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 , dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das erwärmte Medium dem Verbrennungsmotor mit einem Druck zwischen 200 und 300 bar zugeführt wird.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Erwärmung des Mediums zumindest teilweise im Wärmetausch mit dem oder einem der Abgasströme des Verbrennungsmotors erfolgt.
