- This Patent Application for Invention relates to applications of computer technology (hardware and software) to medicine, particularly refers to a Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit, that is, for the treatment of balance disorders, of different origin, of people. It does not refer to a method of treatment but to a device to perform those treatments. Additionally, the device can be used for the development of psychomotor skills.
- the Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit (hereinafter URV) comprises the combination of an application software (not isolated), a virtual vision helmet and a multidirectional elastic seat (preferably a set of Swiss balls) in addition to the PC for its execution.
- the software whose copy on CD-Rom is attached has the purpose of generating compensatory stimuli, of the deficiencies detected in the balance system, through sounds and moving images generated in the virtual vision helmet and interacting with it for the achievement of more efficient stimuli.
- the process involves stimulation generated by the software that reaches the patient through the virtual vision helmet, the patient's response to that stimulus that the helmet itself refers to the software which generates a new stimulus according to the patient's detected response.
- the mechanism of this disorder is a deficit of the vestibular-oculomotor reflex, sequel to the deferentization of one of the balance receptors located in the inner ear (vestibular receptor).
- the procedure to treat this deficit is to achieve compensation for training the balance system through vestibular rehabilitation.
- the objective of the Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit is to achieve the latter in an efficient way, by generating visual stimuli in a controlled way through virtual reality lenses, its stimulation with sound stimuli that regulate the stimulation of the vestibular receptor by cephalic movements captured by an accelerometer and interaction with somatosensory stimulation by Swiss balls.
- the attached software includes the following six basic training programs.
- the Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit may select different characteristics that will be associated with a specific person and session, and may return whenever required to those set for defects.

- Mode location on the screen, location on the edges, direction

- the system has a module for the virtual vision helmet calibration to be used by the patient.
- the system used by the Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit has a web enable mode that allows you to work remotely in case it is necessary for travel by him or the person. In these cases, the Vestibular Rehabilitation Unit makes a user registration that allows you to identify those people you are treating and thus upload only the relevant data and the corresponding training of them.
- the work with the elastic seat or preferably the Swiss balls selectively stimulates one of the portions of the inner ear involved in the balance, whose function is to sense the linear accelerations, in general gravity.
