背景技術
[0002] 医療用、産業用の X線撮影において、近年、 X線感光フィルムに代えて、放射線検 出素子を用いた放射線イメージングシステムが広く用いられるようになってきた。こうし た放射線イメージングシステムは、 X線感光フィルムのように現像の必要がなぐリア ルタイムに放射線画像を確認することができるなど利便性が高ぐデータの保存性や 取扱 、の容易性の面でも優位な点を有する。
[0003] 一般的な放射線イメージングシステムは、入射した放射線画像をシンチレータによ つて可視光等 (紫外線'赤外線を含む。 )に変換し、変換後の光像を 1次元または 2次 元状に配列された光検出素子により検出して画像データに対応する電気信号として 出力するものである。特に、固体撮像素子の受光面上にシンチレータを直接堆積し た構造の放射線検出素子は、その取り扱 、が容易になると 、う利点を有して 、る。
[0004] ところで、固体撮像素子は、大画面化するほど製造時の歩留りが低下してしまう。そ のため、個々の撮像素子の大画面化には限界がある。一方で、放射線は、可視光等 と異なり、光学系によって像を縮小することができないため、実像をカバーするサイズ の撮像素子を必要とする。例えば、胸部のレントゲン撮影装置や乳ガン検診用のマ ンモグラフィ装置、顎部のパノラマ撮影装置等においては、小型の撮像素子をタイル 状に並べたバタブル配列によって大画面の撮像素子を形成する技術が知られてい る (例えば、特許文献 1参照)。

発明の開示
発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0006] 上述したように撮像素子をバタブル配列する場合、特許文献 2に記載されて ヽるよ うに互いの境界部におけるデッドエリアの発生が問題となる。特許文献 2の技術によ れば、その撮像領域が重なり合うように配置することでデッドエリアを縮小して 、るが、 放射線入射方向からみて前面に配置される撮像素子によって遮られている箇所では 、基板等により放射線が減衰してしまう。特に、医療用の放射線撮像装置では、被験 者や操作者の被爆量を減らすため、放射線量を減らしつつ、高感度'高解像度の測 定を行える機器が求められており、こうした減衰は得られる画像の解像度を劣化させ るため好ましくない。
[0007] そこで、本発明は、少な ヽ放射線量でも高感度 ·高解像度で大画面の放射線画像 を取得する事ができるバタブル配列の放射線撮像装置を提供する事を課題とする。 課題を解決するための手段
[0008] 上記課題を解決するため、本発明に係る放射線撮像装置は、 2次元に画素を配列 して受光部を形成した固体撮像素子の受光面に、放射線入射によってこの固体撮 像素子が感度を有する波長の光を含む光を発するシンチレータを堆積し、シンチレ ータを保護膜で覆って形成した放射線撮像素子を基台上に m X n (mは 2以上、 nは 1以上の整数)個並べて配置した放射線撮像装置にぉ 、て、隣接して配置される任 意の 2つの放射線撮像素子間では、(1)一方の放射線撮像素子の基台への固定面 が他方の放射線撮像素子の放射線入射面より放射線入射方向に突出するとともに、 (2)放射線入射方向からみて背面に配置される放射線撮像素子の受光部が前面に 配置される放射線撮像素子によって遮られな!/ヽ状態で、両者は近接して配置されて おり、(3)前面に配置される放射線撮像素子の受光部は、背面に配置される放射線 撮像素子側の周縁部まで広がっており、該周縁部まで受光部中心部と略同一の厚 みのシンチレータが形成されている、ことを特徴とする。
[0009] 本発明によれば、基台に隣接して配置される放射線撮像素子間では、その受光部 が近接して配置される。このとき、放射線入射方向からみて背面に配置される放射線 撮像素子の受光部が前面に配置される放射線撮像素子によって遮られることがない ので、背面側に配置される放射線撮像素子においても受光部の全面が有効撮像領 域となる。また、前面に配置される放射線撮像素子は、背面に配置される放射線撮 像素子に近い側の周縁部まで受光部が広がっているので、受光領域の境界が背面 に配置される放射線撮像素子に近い側まで拡大されている。そして、周縁部までシ ンチレータを均一な厚さに形成することで、前面に配置される放射線撮像素子の有 効画像領域を拡大するとともに、領域内での撮像特性の均一化が図られている。

発明の効果

[3] 前記隣接して配置される任意の 2つの放射線撮像素子において、放射線入射方向 カゝらみて背面に配置される放射線撮像素子においては、前面に配置される放射線 撮像素子で遮られる端部側の受光部端部より外側までシンチレータが堆積されてお り、該受光部端部まで均一な厚みのシンチレータが形成されていることを特徴とする 請求項 2記載の放射線撮像装置。
