発明が解決しょうとする課題 [0004] し力しながら、発光ダイオード 7, 8が発した照明光 LI, L2の中央部の光 Lwは白色 であるが、発光ダイオード 7, 8が斜めに発した光 Lyはやや黄色を帯びた光になり、 照明光 LI, L2によって透過照明される液晶表示パネル 6に色ムラが発生するという 問題を有していた。この問題は、発光ダイオードチップ 7c, 8cが発した光力 蛍光体 7d, 8dを通過する長さが照射方向によって違うためであると考えられる。つまり、発光 ダイオードチップ 7c, 8dから斜めに照射された光が蛍光体 7d, 8dを通過する長さ D 1は、光軸と略平行に照射された光が蛍光体 7dを通過する長さ D2よりも長いため、 斜めに照射される照明光は、やや黄色を帯びた色になる。
本発明は、この問題に鑑みなされたものであり、色ムラが発生する虞が少ない照明 装置を提供するものである。
課題を解決するための手段
[0005] 本発明は、請求項 1に記載したように、第一の照明光 L1を発する第一の発光素子 23と、前記第一の発光素子 23に並設され第二の照明光 L2を発する第二の発光素 子 24と、前記第一の照明光 L1の一部と前記第二の照明光 L2の一部が重なるように 前記第一の照明光 L1を屈折させる第一の傾斜面 26a, 56a及び前記第二の照明光 L2を屈折させる第二の傾斜面 26b, 56bを備えた透光性材料力もなる光学部材 26, 56と、を有するものである。
[0006] また、本発明は、請求項 2に記載したように、前記第一の発光素子 23及び前記第 二の発光素子 24は、夫々、発光ダイオードチップ 23c, 24cと、前記発光ダイオード チップ 23c, 24cが発した光を波長変換させる蛍光体 23d, 24dと、を有するものであ る。
[0007] また、本発明は、請求項 3に記載したように、前記光学部材 26, 56は、前記第一の 照明光 L1が入射する前記第一の傾斜面力もなる第一の入射面 26a, 26bと、前記第 一の照明光 L1が出射する凸レンズ面力もなる第一の出射面 26c, 55cと、前記第二 の照明光 L2が入射する前記第二の傾斜面からなる第二の入射面 26b, 56bと、前記 第二の照明光 L2が出射する凸レンズ面力もなる第二の出射面 26d, 55dと、を有す るものである。
[0008] また、本発明は、請求項 4に記載したように、複数の前記第一の発光素子 23及び 複数の前記第二の発光素子 24を搭載する回路基板 25を設けたものである。
[0009] また、本発明は、請求項 5に記載したように、液晶表示パネル 19及び前記液晶表 示パネル 19を照明する照明手段 21を備えた液晶表示装置 15であって、
前記照明手段 21は、第一の照明光 L1を発する第一の発光素子 23と、前記第一の 発光素子 23に並設され第二の照明光 L2を発する第二の発光素子 24と、前記第一 の照明光 L1の一部と前記第二の照明光 L2の一部が重なるように前記第一の照明 光 L1を屈折させる第一の傾斜面 26a, 56a及び前記第二の照明光 L2を屈折させる 第二の傾斜面 26b, 56bを備えた透光性材料からなる光学部材 26, 56と、を有する ものである。
発明の効果
[0010] 第一の発光素子から発せられた第一の照明光の一部と、第二の発光素子から発せ られた第二の照明光の一部とが重なることにより、色ムラが発生する虡を少なくするこ とがでさる。

発明を実施するための最良の形態
[0013] 以下、添付の図面に基づいて、本発明をヘッドアップディスプレイに応用した一実 施形態について説明する。図 1乃至図 5は第一実施形態を示すものである。
[0014] ヘッドアップディスプレイ 11は車両のダッシュボード 12内に配設されている(図 2参 照)。ヘッドアップディスプレイ 11が投射する表示光 Lはフロントガラス 13により観察 者 14に反射される。観察者 14は虚像 Vを風景と重畳させて視認することができる。
[0015] ヘッドアップディスプレイ 11は、液晶表示装置 15及び反射器 16をノヽウジング 17に 収容したものである。液晶表示装置 15は、液晶表示パネル 19,光拡散板 20,照明 手段 21,ケース体 22を有している。
液晶表示パネル 19は、透明電極が形成された一対のガラス基板に液晶を封入した 液晶セルの前後両面に偏光膜を貼着したものであり、ケース体 22に固定されている 。光拡散板 20は、液晶表示パネル 19の後面に配置され、ケース体 22に固定されて いる。
[0016] 照明手段 21は、発光ダイオード 23 (第一の発光素子)と、発光ダイオード 24 (第二 の発光素子)と、回路基板 25と、光学部材 26とを有している。照明手段 21は、液晶 表示パネル 19の後方に配置され、液晶表示パネル 19を透過照明する。
ケース体 22は略角筒形状になっており、ケース体 21の前端部に液晶表示パネル 1 9及び光拡散板 20が保持されている。ケース体 21の後端部は、後述する放熱部材 に固定されている。
[0017] 反射器 16は、凹面鏡 30,保持部材 31及びステッピングモータ 32を有している。凹 面鏡 30は、榭脂(例えばポリカーボネート)に金属(例えばアルミニウム)を蒸着させ 反射面 30aを形成したものである。反射面 30aは凹面となっており、液晶表示装置 15 が発した表示光 Lが拡大されて虚像 Vが表示される。凹面鏡 30は保持部材 31に両 面粘着テープにより接着されている。保持部材 31は榭脂(例えば ABS)カゝらなるもの であり、歯車部 34及び軸部 35がー体に形成されている。保持部材 31の軸部 35はハ ウジング 17に軸支されている。
[0018] ステッピングモータ 32の回動軸には歯車 37が取付けられており、この歯車 37は、 保持部材 31の歯車部 34と嚙合されている。凹面鏡 30は保持部材 31と共に回動可 能な状態で支持されており、ステッピングモータ 32により凹面鏡 30を回動させ、表示 光 Lの投射方向を調整することができる。観察者 14は、押ボタンスィッチ(図示しない )を操作し表示光 Lが目の位置に反射されるように (即ち、虚像 Vを視認できるように) 凹面鏡 30の角度を調整する。
[0019] 40は放熱部材であり、この放熱部材 40は、ハウジング 17の開口部 17aに配設され ている。放熱部材 40は、図示しないビスによってフランジ部 40aでハウジング 17に固 定されている。放熱部材 40は、シリコーンゴム等の弾性体力もなる熱伝導シート 41を 介して、発光ダイオード 23, 34の熱をノヽウジング 17の外に放出する。放熱部材 40は 、平板形状の多数の放熱フィン 40bを有している。放熱部材 40には、直方体形状の 凸部 40cが形成されている。熱伝導シート 41は、放熱部材 40の凸部 40cに対応する 凹部 41aを有しており、熱伝導シート 41と放熱部材 40の接触面積が大きくなつてい る。 42は長方形環状のパッキング部材であり、このパッキング部材 42は、放熱部材 4 0と、ハウジング 17の開口部 17aの間を塞ぐことによって、ハウジング 17の中に塵埃 が入ることを防いでいる。
[0020] ハウジング 17には液晶表示装置 15及び反射器 16が収容される。ハウジング 17に は表示光 Lが出射する窓部 44が設けられている。この窓部 44は透光性榭脂(例えば アクリル)からなるものであり、湾曲形状になっている。ハウジング 17には遮光壁 17c が設けられており、太陽光等の外光が液晶表示装置 15に入射し虚像 Vが見えにくく なる現象(ゥォッシュアウト)を防止している。遮光壁 17cは平板形状になっており、ハ ウジング 17の上部から斜めに垂下するように形成されて!、る。
[0021] 次に、発光ダイオード 23, 24,回路基板 25,光学部材 26を有する照明手段 21に ついて更に詳述する。
図 3に示すように、発光ダイオード 23, 24は、夫々、基部 23a, 24aと、発光ダイォ ードチップ 23c, 24cと、この発光ダイオードチップ 23c, 24cが発した光を波長変換 する黄色の蛍光体 23d, 24dと、透光性榭脂からなるレンズ部 23e, 24eとを有する。 発光ダイオードチップ 23c, 24cは青色発光するものであり、蛍光体 23d, 24dは発 光ダイオードチップ 23c, 24cが発した光の一部を黄色に変換するものである。発光 ダイオード 23, 24が出す照明光 LI, L2は、発光ダイオードチップ 23c, 24cが発し た青色と、蛍光体 23d, 24dにて変換された黄色とが混色され、略白色になる。発光 ダイオード 23, 24は、上下に各 4個 (合計 8個)、回路基板 24に並設されている(図 4 参照)。回路基板 24には、発光ダイオード 23, 24に電力を供給するための配線バタ ーン(図示しな 、)が設けられて!/、る。
[0022] 光学部材 26は、ポリカーボネート等の透光性榭脂からなるものであり、発光ダイォ ード 23が発した第一の照明光 L1が入射する第一の傾斜面 26aと、発光ダイオード 2 4が発した第二の照明光 L2が入射する第二の傾斜面 26bと、第一の照明光 L1が出 射する凸レンズ面 26cと、第二の照明光 L2が出射する凸レンズ面 26dと、を有する。 光学部材 26の第一の傾斜面 26a及び第二の傾斜面 26bは平面、凸レンズ面 26c, 26dは球面になっている。
[0023] 発光ダイオード 23が発した第一の照明光 L1は、第一の傾斜面 26aで屈折して光 学部材 26に入射し、凸レンズ部 26cで更に屈折して光学部材 26から出射し、液晶 表示パネル 19に照射される。
発光ダイオード 24が発した第二の照明光 L2は、第二の傾斜面 26bで屈折して光 学部材 26に入射し、凸レンズ部 26dで更に屈折して光学部材 26から出射し、液晶 表示パネル 19に照射される。
[0024] 図 6は第二実施形態を示すものである。第二実施形態は、光学部材 55, 56が相違 するだけであり、他の構成は第一実施形態と同様である。
光学部材 55は、ポリカーボネート等の透光性榭脂からなるものであり、発光ダイォ ード 23, 24が発した第一の照明光 L1及び第二の照明光 L2が入射する入射面 55a と、第一の照明光 L1が出射する凸レンズ面 55cと、第二の照明光 L2が出射する凸レ ンズ面 55dと、を有する。
[0025] 光学部材 56は、ポリカーボネート等の透光性榭脂からなるものであり、凸レンズ面 5
5cから出射した第一の照明光 L1が入射する第一の傾斜面 56aと、凸レンズ面 5dか ら出射した第二の照明光 L2が入射する第二の傾斜面 26bと、第一の照明光 L1及び 第二の照明光 L2が出射する出射面 56cと、を有する。
[0026] 発光ダイオード 23が発した第一の照明光 L1は、入射面 55a, 凸レンズ面 55c,第 一の傾斜面 56aで夫々屈折し、出射面 56cから出射して、液晶表示パネル 19に照 射される。
発光ダイオード 24が発した第二の照明光 L2は、入射面 55a, 凸レンズ面 55d,第 一の傾斜面 56bで夫々屈折し、出射面 56cから出射して、液晶表示パネル 19に照 射される。
[0027] 第一,第二実施形態によれば、発光ダイオード 23, 24が斜めに照射した第一の照 明光 L1及び第二の照明光 L2の一部は、やや黄色を帯びた色になるが、発光ダイォ ード 24, 23が光軸と略平行に照射した白色の第二の照明光 L2及び第一の照明光 L 1に重なるため、色ムラが少ない。
産業上の利用可能性
[0028] 本発明は、液晶表示パネルを透過照明する照明手段を備えた液晶表示装置に適 用されるものである。

請求の範囲
[1] 第一の照明光を発する第一の発光素子と、前記第一の発光素子に並設され第二 の照明光を発する第二の発光素子と、前記第一の照明光の一部と前記第二の照明 光の一部が重なるように前記第一の照明光を屈折させる第一の傾斜面及び前記第 二の照明光を屈折させる第二の傾斜面を備えた透光性材料力 なる光学部材と、を 有することを特徴とする照明装置。
[2] 前記第一の発光素子及び前記第二の発光素子は、夫々、発光ダイオードチップと 、前記発光ダイオードチップが発した光を波長変換させる蛍光体と、を有することを 特徴とする請求項 1に記載の照明装置。
[3] 前記光学部材は、前記第一の照明光が入射する前記第一の傾斜面からなる第一 の入射面と、前記第一の照明光が出射する凸レンズ面力 なる第一の出射面と、前 記第二の照明光が入射する前記第二の傾斜面からなる第二の入射面と、前記第二 の照明光が出射する凸レンズ面からなる第二の出射面と、を有することを特徴とする 請求項 1に記載の照明装置。
[4] 複数の前記第一の発光素子及び複数の前記第二の発光素子を搭載する回路基 板を設けたことを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の照明装置。
[5] 液晶表示パネル及び前記液晶表示パネルを照明する照明手段を備えた液晶表示 装置であって、
前記照明手段は、第一の照明光を発する第一の発光素子と、前記第一の発光素 子に並設され第二の照明光を発する第二の発光素子と、前記第一の照明光の一部 と前記第二の照明光の一部が重なるように前記第一の照明光を屈折させる第一の傾 斜面及び前記第二の照明光を屈折させる第二の傾斜面を備えた透光性材料からな る光学部材と、を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
