Definitions
- the invention relates to the technical field of gas mixers.
- the invention relates to gas mixers used in the artificial respiration of patients.
- Gas mixers conventionally used in the field of intensive care are based i.d.R. on elaborate mechanical pressure regulators (Dräger u.a.).
- the setting is made by mechanical rotary selector switch. But their setting error is often greater than the required accuracy in the gas mixture.
- Flow regulators as a combination of gas flow sensor and proportional valve are known and commercially available. Gas mixers or feeders as a parallel connection of flow controllers are known as discrete assemblies.
- An advantage of a flow through a gap is the laminarity of the flow. This results in a wide range of linear characteristics.
- the advantage of the use of a gap between a cylindrical measuring cavity and a cylindrical resistance body is the ease of manufacture, for example, by drilling, injection molding or turning.
- a uniformly wide gap advantageously provides for a large linear range. This is advantageously achieved in that the axes of rotation of the resistor body and the measuring cavity coincide.
- the flow resistance of the shunt resistance can be adjusted by different applications in a simple manner to the requirements.
- An O-ring provides easy pressure tightness.
- a gas mixer which contains a block with the most important pneumatic connections and to which as many valves and sensors as possible are fastened and pneumatically connected, takes up little space and is easy to assemble because the tubing effort is reduced because fewer tubes are required.
- An inventive pneumatic bypass resistor can be advantageously integrated into the block of the gas mixer and thus facilitates the adaptation of the gas mixer to gas sources that provide different pressures.
- a sword insert ensures rapid and complete mixing of the gases to be mixed. This is particularly advantageous when using gas sensors in order to avoid incorrect measurements.
- constriction together with a storage volume that can be connected to the port connected in parallel to the gas outlet, creates a pneumatic low-pass that increases the stability of the control loops, even if different amounts of gas are withdrawn at the exit during inspiration and expiration.
- An oxygen sensor can advantageously be calibrated with the aid of the supplied synthetic air and, after switching over a corresponding switching valve, verify the oxygen concentration of the mixed glass.

- an unillustrated filter module may be attached directly to the base block 110 and sealed against it.
- Each of the two gas streams initially passes a pressure sensor 112 or 122, in which the pressure at the oxygen port 111 or the air port 121 is measured.
- Each gas flow then passes through a combination of a proportional valve 113 or 123 and a gas flow sensor 114, 115, 116, 117 and 124, 125, 126, 127.
- Each gas flow sensor consists of a pneumatic shunt resistor as described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 was explained.
- the inserts 117 and 127 are shown by way of example. Via the flow sensor outlets and inlets 114 and 115 or 124 and 125, flow sensors 116 and 126 are connected. As mentioned above, instead of the flow sensors 116 and 126, differential pressure sensors may also be used. By a known, not shown, electronic circuit, the two proportional valves are connected together with the two gas flow sensors to two control loops, wherein in each control loop, the position of the proportional valve is adjusted so that a predetermined gas flow is maintained as possible.
- the two gas streams in the transverse bore in which a sword insert 133 is mixed.
- the sword insert 133 ensures that the gas coming from the air connection 121 initially flows to the left in the upper half (see Fig. 4) of the transverse bore, where it meets the gas coming from the oxygen connection, and then flows through the lower half of the transverse bore to the bottleneck 136 and on to the gas outlet 137 of the basic module.
- the merging of two gas streams with a constant flow creates a new gas flow, which also has a constant flow.
- a connection reservoir 135, not shown, can be connected via a connection 135 so that the constriction 136 and the compensation reservoir form a pneumatic low-pass.
- This low-pass interference on the control loops are reduced when the gas outlet 137, for example, in inspiration and expiration different amounts of gas is removed.
- the valves for the airway and the inserts 117 and 127 can be exchanged depending on the intended application, so that they both for the supply of compressed air from the bottle or the hospital system (2-7bar) and for low compressed air from a compressor (150mbar ) allow optimal regulation.
- a first add-on module 139 may be attached via which, as an alternative to the air, up to two other gases, e.g. Nitrous oxide at the nitrous oxide port 141 or a noble gas such as helium or xenon at the noble gas port 151, can be connected simultaneously.

- a series connection of switching valves 144 and 145 ensures that only one of the three gases is mixed with oxygen. If the first add-on module 139 is connected, the airway is interrupted by interrupters 130 to avoid a pneumatic short circuit of change-over valve 145. If the first additional module 139 is not required, the connection openings in the basic block are sealed tight.
- a valve 131 and a port for an oxygen sensor 132 may be mounted to the base block 110.
- Figure 3 also shows the combination of both variants.
- the oxygen sensor 132 may be calibrated in one position of valve 131 either by means of the gas supplied to the air port 121 or measure the oxygen concentration of this gas or monitor in the other, shown in Figure 3 position of the valve 131, the oxygen concentration of the discharged gas outlet 137 gas mixture , In particular, because of this analysis option, it is necessary to mix the two gas streams quickly.
- a second additional module 169 can be connected to the second additional block 170.

Abstract
Description
Dabei zeigen:
Fig. 1 einen vertikalen Schnitt durch einen erfindungsgemäßen pneumatischen Nebenwiderstand;
Fig. 2 einen horizontalen Schnitt durch einen erfindungsgemäßen pneumatischen Nebenwiderstand;
Fig. 3 ein pneumatisches Schaltbild des erfindungsgemäßen Gasmischers;
Fig. 5 eine perspektivische Ansicht des erfindungsgemäßen Gasmischers.
