Abstract

 状況に応じてホールドボケを改善させることが可能な画像表示装置を提供する。オリジナルのフレームにおける映像信号の内容およびユーザの視聴環境の明るさの少なくとも一方に応じて、液晶表示パネル2における表示画面上に黒表示領域が挿入される黒挿入処理がなされるように構成する。具体的には、例えば、オリジナルのフレームにおける映像信号がシネマ信号(フィルム信号)であるときに、液晶表示パネル2における表示画面上に黒表示領域が挿入される黒挿入処理がなされるようにする。より具体的には、例えば、バックライト駆動部71が、液晶表示パネル2における表示画面上において黒挿入処理がなされるように、バックライト72の点灯および消灯の切替駆動を行う。
