Abstract

　本発明の光信号サンプリング装置及び光信号モニタ装置は、サンプリング対象の光信号とサンプリング用光パルスとを合波する光合波部と電界吸収型光変調器から構成され、前記電界吸収型光変調器は、光を入出射するための２つの光端子と、該２つの光端子間を結ぶ光路に電界を与えるための電源端子とを有し、前記光路を伝搬する光に対する吸収率が前記電界の大きさに応じて変化する特性を有し、前記２つの光端子の一方の光端子で前記光合波部からの出射光を受け、サンプリング用光パルスが入射していないときには前記吸収率を高くし、且つ、前記サンプリング用光パルスが入射したときには前記吸収率を低くする。 さらに本発明の装置は、所定の直流電圧を前記電源端子に与える直流電源と、前記２つの光端子の他方の光端子から出射される光信号のうち、前記サンプリング対象の光信号成分を選択的に出射する光分離部とを含む。
