Abstract

 本発明は、S含有量を低減して強度等の機械的特性を維持すると共に、ハイス工具における低速での断続切削(例えばホブ加工)において優れた被削性(特に工具寿命)を発揮することのできる機械構造用鋼、およびこうした機械構造用鋼を製造するための有用な方法を提供する。本発明の機械構造用鋼は、鋼中の固溶N:0.002%以上を確保しつつ、化学成分組成を適切に調整し、下記(1)式の関係を満足する。  (0.1×[Cr]+[Al])/[O]≧150   …(1)  但し、[Cr],[Al]および[O]は、それぞれCr,AlおよびOの含有量(質量%)を示す。
