The ice bath is removed and the thick slurry is allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 1 hour.

Benzoyl chloride (543 g, 3.84 mol) is added dropwise keeping the temperature at 10-20 0 C. Initially only half of the benzoyl chloride is added into the additional funnel to prevent all of the material from being added at once. The entire addition takes about 2 hours. The ice bath is removed and the thick slurry is allowed to stir at ambient temperature overnight.
- a total of 1243.4 g is produced at 92% yield with a melting point 110-112 0 C.
