Definitions
- the present invention relates to energy supply systems for supplying energy to a ship. More particularly, the invention relates to power generation modules adapted to be connected to a ship to provide them with the energy necessary for their propulsion and operation.
- the document WO 01/49562 proposes a set of ships composed in particular of a barge and a pusher vessel provided with means
- the rear portion of the barge is complementary shape of the front portion of the pusher vessel to allow mechanical interconnection, so that said barge is pushed and moved by the pusher vessel.
- One limitation of this solution is that it does not allow the barge to move
- GB 949 645 It has also been proposed in GB 949 645 to implement a set of separable ships comprising an energy supply ship and at least one satellite ship, each being provided with own propulsion means.
- the energy produced by the supply vessel is transferred to the satellite ship by means of electric cables, allowing relative independence of the ships making up the whole.
- Each satellite vessel further includes an auxiliary power plant enabling it to temporarily disengage from the supply vessel, and may be a submarine or a large vessel.
- the related displacement of the supply vessel and the satellite vessel (s) can be complicated, for example when weather conditions are poor, and make it difficult to implement the energy transfer.
- the energy required to move the supply vessel and the satellite vessel is greater than the energy required to move a single vessel.
- the invention therefore aims to overcome these difficulties posed by the prior art.
- the invention proposes a separable module for producing energy from a ship, capable of providing the ship with the energy necessary for its propulsion, which can be adapted to any type of ship, and in particular to ships of such as cargo ships, container ships or passenger ships.
- the invention also aims to provide a separable module for energy production of a ship for a simple and safe energy transfer in all circumstances, especially when weather conditions are difficult.
- the invention proposes a module for producing electrical energy for a main ship that can supply the energy necessary for the propulsion of said main ship,
- the module being realized in the form of a secondary ship independent of the main ship and comprising a power plant
- the secondary vessel being provided with electrical connection means for establishing an electrical connection between the power plant and the main vessel and locking means for the main vessel to make it integral in displacement of said main vessel, in which the electrical connection means are adapted for supplying electrical energy to the propulsion means of the main ship.
- Some preferred but non-limiting aspects of the power generation module according to the invention are the following:
- the secondary vessel further comprises propulsion means enabling it to move independently of the main vessel;
- the power plant is a nuclear power plant, a gas plant or a hydrogen plant.
- the invention proposes a set of vessels comprising a main vessel and a secondary vessel, said secondary vessel being a module according to the invention, the main vessel having means for receiving the secondary vessel.
- the means for receiving the secondary vessel are located in a rear or side part of the main vessel;
- the main vessel comprises a receptacle whose shape is complementary to the shape of the secondary ship, so that when the locking means lock the secondary ship on the ship main, the secondary ship has no surface opposing the advancement of the entire ship;
- the locking means of the main and secondary ship are configured so that when the locking means lock the secondary ship on the main ship, the secondary ship is towed by the main ship;
- the main vessel has a raft allowing it to receive the secondary ship in an internal space
- the main vessel comprises an auxiliary power plant for supplying the propulsion means of the main ship in the release configuration, the propulsion performance then being substantially lower than when said propulsion means of the main ship are powered by the central of the secondary ship.
- FIG. 1 is a top view in section; a first embodiment of a set of ships according to the invention in road configuration;
- FIG. 2 is a top view in section of the first embodiment of a set of ships according to the invention in release configuration
- FIG. 3 is a sectional top view of a second embodiment of a set of ships according to the invention in road configuration
- FIG. 4 is a top view in section of the second embodiment of a set of ships according to the invention in release configuration.
- the present invention can find application on any type of ship.
- the invention is nevertheless particularly advantageous for large ships of the cargo type, container ships, military vessels, cruise ships or ferries.
- a power generation module 2 comprises a power plant 3 that can provide the energy necessary for the propulsion of a ship 1, said main ship.
- the power and type of the power plant 3 are adapted to the needs of the main vessel 1 to which it transfers energy.
- the power plant 1 may be a nuclear power station in the case where the main vessel 1 is a large ship such as a cargo ship.
- the plant may be a gas plant, a hydrogen plant or any other source of energy.
- the energy production module 2 is made in the form of a ship, said secondary ship 2, independent of the main vessel 1, and is provided with electrical connection means 7 for establishing an electrical connection between the generating station of energy 3 and the main vessel 1, to supply electrical energy to the propulsion means 4 of the main vessel 1.
- the secondary vessel 2 is small. Typically, it is smaller than the main vessel 1, and can thus have a length of between about one-tenth and about one-fifth of the length of the main vessel.
- the secondary vessel 2 may also comprise propulsion means 5 allowing it to move autonomously, especially when it is not connected to any main vessel.
- the plant 3 of the secondary vessel 2 then supplies energy only its own propulsion means 5.
- the propulsion means 5 of the secondary vessel 2 are not adapted to move the main vessel 1: the secondary vessel 2 is indeed not intended to push or tow the main vessel 1, but only to provide the energy necessary for its means of propulsion 4.
- the secondary vessel 2 moves with the aid of one or more tugs when it is not connected to any main vessel 1.
- the secondary vessel 2 and the main vessel 1 comprise complementary locking means 6a, 6b, making it possible to make the secondary vessel 2 integral with the displacement of the main vessel 1, so that the displacement of the main vessel 1 causes the displacement of the secondary ship 2.
- the locking means 6a make it possible to rigidly and severally secure the secondary ship 2 to the main ship 1.
- This connection can be made in any part of the ship 1, for example at the rear or Side of the main vessel 1.
- the locking means 6a then comprise mechanical connection means arranged in the rear (respectively lateral) of the main ship.
- the shape of a front portion of the secondary vessel 2 is complementary to the shape of the aft portion of the main vessel 1.
- Such complementary shapes may in particular be a female cavity and a male protrusion disposed respectively in the rear part of the main vessel 1 and the front part of the secondary vessel 2, or vice versa.
- the main vessel 1 comprises a receptacle 12 which can in particular be arranged in the rear (respectively lateral) part which is complementary to the overall shape of the secondary vessel 2, so that the vessel Secondary 2 is completely embedded in the main vessel 1 when they are road configuration, as shown in Figure 1, the rear (respectively side) of the secondary vessel 2 being disposed substantially in the plane of the rear part (respectively side) of the main vessel 1.
- the secondary vessel 2 then forms an integral part said main vessel 1.
- the main ship 1 and the secondary ship 2 are rigidly secured and form a single ship set moving together.
- the secondary vessel 2 being smaller than the main vessel
- the secondary vessel 2 when locked to the main ship, the secondary vessel 2 has (preferably) no surface opposing the advancement of the set of vessels, and thus generates only low mechanical forces at the level of the connection 6a with the main vessel 1. Furthermore, the secondary vessel 2 preferably remains afloat when it is locked on the main vessel 1. Thus, the secondary vessel 2 can, during the movements, reduce the forces exerted on the the locking means 6a partially using the energy produced by the power plant 3 to implement its own propulsion means 5. This does not mean, however, that the secondary vessel 2 acts as propellant and / or tractor of the ship main 1, since, it is recalled, the propulsion means 5 of the secondary vessel 2 are not suitable for such an operation.
- the electrical connection means 7 may for example be arranged on the rear and front parts of the main vessel 1 and secondary 2 respectively, so as to establish the electrical connection between the central 3 of the secondary vessel 2 and the main vessel 1.
- This position of the connecting means 7 is not limiting. These means 7 may alternatively be arranged on an upper part of the secondary vessel 2 and a complementary part of the main vessel 1, or any other suitable place of the two vessels 1 and 2.
- the locking means may be arranged in different locations of the main vessel 1 and secondary 2, and be more or less numerous depending on the respective size of the ships 1 and 2, the type of locking means, etc..
- the main vessel 1 comprises a base 8 adapted to receive the secondary vessel 2.
- the secondary vessel 2 is then placed in an internal space 9 of the main vessel 1.
- radier we mean here a submergible slab, that is to say an inner basin constituting a floating dock.
- the impoundment and dry of the raft 8 thus allows the slagging and de-rigging of the floating equipment to be transported, such as the secondary vessel 2.
- the main vessel 1 comprises a door 10 allowing access to the raft 8 of the secondary vessel 2.
- the door 10 and the raft 8 are arranged in a rear portion of the main vessel 1.
- the secondary vessel 2 can then remained afloat in the raft 8, or be dry.
- the door 10 and the raft 8 are arranged in another part of the main ship, such as a front, side, etc.
- the raft 8 may for example be provided with conventional locking means 6b ensuring the maintenance of the secondary ship 2 in the deck of the main vessel 1, such as a docking system.
- the maintenance of the secondary vessel 2 in the main vessel 1 through the locking means 6b is not necessarily rigid since the secondary vessel 2 is necessarily integral displacement of the main vessel 1 (since it is housed in write off 8).
- the main vessel 1 may comprise both locking means 6a disposed on its rear part and locking means 6b arranged in an internal space 9 of said ship 1, so as to accommodate all forms of realization of secondary vessels.
- the main vessel 1 can accommodate the same secondary vessel 2 in one or other of these positions.
- the main vessel 1 may alternatively be connected to several secondary vessels at the same time.
- a first secondary ship can be locked to the aft portion of the main ship 1 (in accordance with the first embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1), while a second secondary ship can be disposed in the inner space 9 of the main ship (according to the second embodiment illustrated in Figure 3).
- the power plant 3 supplies power to the propulsion means 4 of the main ship.
- the propulsion means 4 of the main vessel 1 may be electric motors intended to be electrically connected to the connection means 7 in road configuration.
- the propulsion means may be of a different type, energy conversion means then being arranged between the propulsion means 4 and the electrical connection means 7.
- the set of vessels formed by the main vessel 1 and the secondary vessel 2 is thus moved by the propulsion means 4 of the main vessel 1 fed by the power plant 3 of the ship secondary 2. Therefore, the secondary ship 2 is slave moving the main vessel 1.
- the locking means 6a, 6b are configured to be sufficiently resistant to withstand in the long term and whatever the weather conditions the stresses exerted by the secondary ship 2 during its movement by the main vessel 1.
- the locking means 6a, 6b are adapted to the respective characteristics of the secondary vessels 2 and main 1 (shape, weight, loading, volume, windage, speed, type of trips made, etc.).
- the main vessel 1 may also include an annex 11 power plant enabling it to navigate independently of the secondary vessel 2.
- the annex 11 plant generally less powerful than the power plant 3 of the secondary vessel 2, is sufficient for supplying the propulsion means 4 of the main ship during small displacements, or in the event of failure of the power plant 3, the propulsion performance then being substantially lower than when said propulsion means 4 of the main vessel 1 are fed by the plant 3 of the secondary vessel 2.
- the power and the type of power generation auxiliary plant 11 on board the main vessel 1 are sized and adapted to the needs of the main vessel 1 in the release configuration or if a fault renders the power generation module 2 partially or totally unusable.
- the Annex 11 plant is likely to serve only for the needs of its own onboard electrical network and its propulsion means during small movements, reduced speed travel, etc.
- the Annex 11 plant is adapted to allow the main ship 1 to enter a port. It is also adapted in other configurations requiring limited propulsion performance such as the handling of the ship 1 or its return to good harbor despite a fault on the power generation module 2.
- the central station 11 is a fuel station such as a set of generators equipped with a diesel engine-alternator.
- the type of power plant annex 11 that is installed aboard the main vessel 1 is compatible with the propulsion means 4 of the main vessel 1.
- the main vessel 1 also comprises means energy conversion between the propulsion means and the main production station 11 of the main vessel 1.
- the main vessel 1 can dissociate from the secondary vessel 2 if the conditions require it, and navigate autonomously. Such conditions may be entry into a port that does not allow nuclear power plants, refueling of power plant 3, etc.
- the main vessel 1 can "drop" the secondary vessel 2 by unlocking the locking means 6a, 6b, disconnecting the electrical connections 7, and if necessary by releasing the secondary vessel 2 by opening the door 10 of the raft 8. In this release configuration, the main vessel 1 and secondary 2 are then free to move independently of one another.
- the main vessel 1 becomes a conventional vessel propelled for example by means of the annex 11 plant, which notably simplifies its access to the ports, while the secondary vessel 2 becomes an autonomous ship.
- the separation of the main vessel 1 and its power plant 3 simplifies the maintenance or recharging operations of the plant 3. is no longer necessary to stop the ship main 1, since it is sufficient to replace (by a simple exchange standard) the secondary vessel 2 to undergo operations by another secondary ship already operational.
- the autonomous propulsion of secondary vessels makes this exchange even more simple and quick to perform, and also allows them, when their plant is for example a gas, hydrogen or nuclear power station, to go to terminals specific reloading.
