Definitions
- the invention relates to a heat exchanger, in particular for use in a motor vehicle and a collector plate of such an exchanger.
- Such exchangers for example the radiators for cooling the motor, have a succession of elongated tubes in which circulates a coolant. Heat exchanges occur between the coolant and the fluid externally in contact with the tubes, generally air.
- Two manifolds receive the respective ends of these tubes, thus ensuring the fluid communication of the tubes together.
- These boxes each include a lid and a plate-shaped manifold.
- the sealing of the junction between the lid and the manifold is generally achieved by means of a seal extending along the edge of the box.
- the edge of the manifold can be shaped into a groove or groove forming a housing for this joint. This groove also ensures the relative positioning of the cover and the collector.
- the manifold is perforated with holes adapted to the passage of the tubes, so that the latter open into a respective header box at each of their ends. Once in place, the tubes are secured to the collector, generally by soldering.
- each collar increases the guide length of the tube in the hole and increases the area available for brazing the tube with the lid.
- the collars are obtained by pushing the material of the collector during the realization of the holes.
- the height of the collars that is to say the distance from which they protrude from the plate, usually inside the collector box, is related to the thickness of the material used: the thicker the material, the more the collars are high.
- the ends of the tubes protrude from the collar inside the manifold.
- the coolant flowing in the box forms vortices. These generate internal pressure losses and adversely affect the performance of the exchanger.
- the regions in question constitute "dead" zones, that is to say practically useless to the operation of the exchanger.
- EP 0990868 Bl proposes to reduce these pressure drops by passing the collars from the side of the collector outside the manifold.
- the collars are formed by burrowing the holes in the opposite direction to the direction of insertion of the tubes, i.e. from the inner side of the manifold to the outer side thereof. This makes the assembly of the exchanger difficult or impossible, because the holes are then devoid of introduction cone: the cone formed during repouss seed material collector has a narrowing direction opposite the direction of introduction tubes.
- FR 2 783 903 proposes to attach an additional plate to the collector, against the inner face of the latter.
- the space between the portions of the tubes protruding from collars, here internal, is filled by the additional plate.
- the latter further increases the resistance of the assembly to the crimping forces and protects the ends of the tubes.
- This plate however constitutes an additional piece to manufacture and to assemble to the rest of the exchanger. This results in increased manufacturing costs.
- EP 1 384 968 proposes to make the box in several parts: a first portion, intermediate, is crimped on the manifold, while a second portion, outer, is secured to the first, by gluing, crimping or welding.
- the intermediate portion is shaped to facilitate insertion of the tubes.
- No. 5,327,959 provides passage holes with a chamfer. The latter is shaped to prevent the penetration of the tubes inside the manifold. The risk of vortex creation is then discarded.
- the zone for contact between the chamfers and the ends of the tubes being very small, it is not assured that this contact takes place for all the tubes, nor that the solder can take or resist at this point.
- the mechanical strength of the exchanger is decreased.
- the invention aims to improve the existing.
- the exchanger concerned comprises at least one elongate tube adapted to the circulation of a coolant and at least one manifold for such a fluid into which an end of said tube opens, the manifold comprising a manifold having a receiving element for the end of said tube, the receiving member comprising a protruding portion internally formed in a holding zone for this tube.
- the receiving element further comprises a connecting portion of the portion projecting internally to the rest of the manifold and in that this connecting portion projects from the side of the manifold opposite to the manifold so that that the internally projecting portion and the connecting portion have mutually opposed projection directions.
- the projecting portion internally rises inwardly of the manifold.
- the receiving element is shaped in the collector.
- the projecting portion has a section orifice adapted to the passage of an end zone of the tube.
- the holding zone is arranged in correspondence of shape with the outside of the tube near its end opening into the collecting box;
- connection zones have bases by which they are connected to the remainder of the collector plate, situated in the same plane, called the internal envelope plane of the collector, and the protruding portion internally is set back from said plane, so as to said tube holding zone does not project internally beyond said plane,
- the end of the tube exceeds at most 2 millimeters from said inner envelope plane of the collector, on the side of this plane oriented towards the inside of the collecting box,
- the end of the tube is disposed substantially at the level of the internal envelope plane of the collector
- the end of the tube is located at a distance of less than 4 millimeters from the internal envelope plane of the collector, on the side of this plane oriented towards the outside of the manifold,
- the collector is made of a plate material with a thickness of between 0.8 and 1.8 millimeters, preferably between 1.2 and 1.5 millimeters,
- the exchanger comprises a bundle of tubes adapted to the circulation of the coolant, in which the bundle has a spacing pitch of the tubes of between 5 and 15 millimeters, and preferably between 6 and 10 millimeters, the box comprises a lid, crimped on said collecting box,
- the box comprises a lid brazed to said collector plate
- the tube or tubes are obtained by folding a sheet of material
- said tubes are provided with corrugations projecting internally.
- the invention also relates to a collector plate for a heat exchanger provided with the characteristics described above.
- FIG. 1 shows a front view of a heat exchanger
- FIG. 2 shows a left view of the exchanger of Figure 1;
- FIG. 3 shows a longitudinal sectional view of a collector for the exchanger of Figures 1 and 2;
- FIG. 4 represents a perspective view from above and from a detail IV of the collector of FIG. 3;
- FIG. 5 is similar to Figure 4, the collector being viewed from below;
- FIG. 7 schematically represents a sectional view of a first embodiment of a collector according to the invention, in the transverse direction of said collector
- FIG. 1 and 2 show a heat exchanger 1 for use in a motor vehicle, for example for cooling the engine.
- the exchanger 1 comprises elongated tubes 3 for the circulation of a heat transfer fluid arranged in a bundle.
- the tubes 3 are aligned in one or more rows, or layers.
- FIG. 2 shows that the exchanger 1 has a sheet of tubes 3.
- each end of each of the tubes 3 opens into a respective header box 5.
- the exchanger 1 thus comprises two similar manifolds 5 which put the tubes 3 into fluid communication with each other.
- the manifolds 5 have a general parallelepipedal appearance. They are arranged vis-à-vis one another.
- the heat exchanger 1 allows a heat exchange between the coolant circulating in the tubes 3 and a fluid passing through the exchanger externally, generally air.
- FIG. 3 shows a plate 9 shaped as a collector for a said box (not shown), the collector and a cover (not represented in this figure) forming together a collecting box 5.
- the lid is in the general shape of parallelepiped, while the collector generally extends in a plane and rectangularly.
- the collector 9 has a central portion 10 and a rim portion 11 surrounding this central portion 10.
- the central portion 10 has a plurality of through orifices 12, adapted in shape and position to the introduction and passage of a portion end of the tubes 3.
- the rim portion 11 has a circumferential groove or groove 13 adapted to the housing of a seal 14.
- the seal 14 makes it possible to seal the assembly of the cover and collector 9 of the box.
- a peripheral portion 15 of the collector 9 is folded so as to project, almost perpendicularly, from the central portion 10. This peripheral portion is intended to come close to the side walls of the lid and to crimp it on the collector.
- the central portion 10 extends between two planes parallel to each other and to the general extension plane of the collector 9:
- the end of the tubes 3 received in the orifices 12 is substantially at the inner envelope plane 16 or slightly below.
- FIGS. 4 to 6 show in detail a portion of the collector 9 comprising any of the orifices 12.
- the collector 9 is shaped to have a neck portion 19 which borders the orifice 12.
- This collar 19 projects from the inner surface of the collector 9, following a direction substantially perpendicular to the general plane of extension of this manifold 9 and from the outer shell face 17 to the inner shell face 16.
- the free end of the collar 19 is set back from the plane of 16.
- the collar 19 is made by repelling the material of the plate, so that a slight narrowing of the section of the orifice 12 of the outer surface of the collector 9 is formed.
- a connecting portion 21 connects the collar 19 to the same portion 21 corresponding to the next tube passage.
- the connecting portion 21 is made in the form of a portion which projects from the collector 9, in a direction perpendicular to the general extension plane, going from the internal envelope plane 16 to the outer envelope plane 17.
- connecting portion is located below the general extension plane.
- the collector 9 has, in the vicinity of each orifice 12, a receiving element for the end of a tube 3, comprising an internally projecting portion shaped as a holding zone for this tube, a connecting portion of the portion protruding from the manifold, this connecting portion projecting from the side of the manifold 9 opposite the manifold, the protruding portion and the connecting portion having mutually opposed projection directions.
- the orifices 12 are adapted to the passage of so-called flat tubes, that is to say whose section is delimited by two long straight edges parallel to each other and connected together, each time, by a semicircular edge.
- the collars 19 follow the shape of the orifices 12, which can be described as oblong.
- the connecting portion 21 is made by conforming the cover plate 9 locally in an elongated boss along the length of the orifices 12.
- the boss has a wave appearance.
- This corrugation can extend over practically all of the direction concerned, in particular when there are several rows of tubes: it is then possible to use the same connecting portion 21 for several collars 19 aligned in their longitudinal direction.
- the collars 19 are attached at their base to their respective connecting portion 23 via a bent zone 23, which further facilitates the introduction of the tubes.
- Each collar 19 can also be seen as a bead of material surrounding the orifice 12.
- the collector thus has a succession of bosses similar to the connection zone, that is to say in the form of corrugations, connected to each other in the transverse direction of the orifices 12.
- the connecting portions 21 are connected to each other.
- the vertices of the corrugations are alternately contained in the inner envelope plane 16 and in the inner envelope plane 17.
- the orifice 12 coincides, in the general extension plane, with a crest line contained in the plane of the envelope. inner envelope 17.
- connection zones 23 comprise bases 50 which connect them to each other and by which they are connected to the rest of the collector plate.
- FIG. 7 shows an orifice 12 for the passage of a tube in a manifold 9 provided with a groove 13 for accommodating a seal.
- Figure 8 shows a manifold for an embodiment in which there is no groove 13, the seal then being held in position between the tubes 3 (not visible in this figure) and the flange 15 of the manifold.
- FIGS. 9 and 10 show another aspect of the invention, according to which the free end of the collar 19 is located as close as possible at a distance D1 of 2 millimeters from the internal envelope plane 16, on the side of this plane opposite to the collecting box.
- This makes it possible to arrange a tube 3 so that its end protrudes at most 2 millimeters from the internal envelope plane of the collector 9, the side of this plane facing the inside of the manifold 5 (Figure 9). It also becomes possible to arrange the ends of the tubes at this inner envelope plane (FIG. 10).
- FIGS. 11 to 13 illustrate the embodiment of the receiving portion of the ends of the tubes 3.
- a portion of a metal plate is shaped into a boss portion 27.
- This deformation of the collector is done keeping substantially the thickness of the plate constant on the portions of this plate forming the boss 27.
- the top of the boss 27 is shaped into a boss 29 of FIG. raising in a direction opposite to the elevation direction of the boss 27. This involves at least one stamping operation performed from the outer face to the inner face.
- a third step illustrated in FIG.
- the bump 29 is made to be punctured from the outer face of the cover plate 9 to form an orifice 12 at the top of the bump 29. This puncture results in a thinning of the bump. manifold and an elongation of the boss 29, so that a collar 19 is formed.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above by way of example only, but encompasses all the variants that may be considered by those skilled in the art.
- the shape of the cross section of the tubes 3 may be different from that described, for example round, "bean", rectangular or other.
- the number of layers of tubes is also likely to vary. And while remaining within the scope of the invention, the holding zones may slightly exceed internally beyond the internal envelope plane.
