- the device that exhibits this function is called "voltage application device C9". Specifically, when it is determined that the voltage of each fuel cell group has become equal to or less than the third reference value, the stack voltage is applied to the fuel cell stack 10. Further, the stack voltage is increased by the power manager 60 so as to become a predetermined voltage value over time. - a device that exhibits this function is called “stack voltage determination device C11.”

- the control unit C connected to the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 diagnoses the cross leak of each fuel cell single cell 11 based on the detected voltage of each fuel cell single cell 11. Specifically, when the voltage of the fuel cell single cell measured by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 is lower than the first reference value, it is diagnosed that the hydrogen gas of the anode is cross leaked to the cathode. Do.
- the “first reference value” is a threshold value of the voltage of the single fuel cell corresponding to the one in which the hole is opened in the electrolyte membrane. Then, when the detected voltage of the fuel cell single cell falls below the threshold value, it is diagnosed that the fuel cell single cell is in cross leak.
- FIG. 3 is a flowchart showing a sequence when diagnosing a cross leak in the present system 1.
- 4A to 4D are time charts corresponding to the steps of the flowchart. Specifically, FIG. 4A shows the relationship between the stoichiometric ratio and time, FIG. 4B shows the relationship between current density and time of the fuel cell stack, and FIG. The relation with time is shown, and FIG. 4 (D) shows the relation between voltage and time of a single fuel cell.
- the on / off switch 43 is ON, and both the on / off switches 46 and 61 are OFF. That is, the load 40 is divided by the fuel cell stack 10, and the battery 50 is not electrically connected.
- both the compressor 30 and the recycle compressor 80 are in operation.
- the operating pressure is 150 kPa for both hydrogen gas and air.
- control unit C When the control unit C detects a stop signal of the fuel cell system 1, it shifts to a cross leak diagnosis process.
- Step S1 The compressor 30 is stopped, and the process proceeds to step S2.
- the fuel cell single cell When the load 40 and the fuel cell stack 10 are connected, the fuel cell single cell generates electric current and the electric current is taken out, and the generated voltage in the fuel cell single cell is detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1.
- the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 As shown by symbol a in FIG. 4A, when the compressor 30 is stopped and the supply of air is stopped, as shown in FIGS. 4C and 4D, the oxygen consumption of the cathode electrode is caused. The generated voltage decreases and the voltage of the single fuel cell decreases.
- Step S2 It is determined whether the voltage detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 is less than the second reference value (for example, 0.2 V), and when it is determined that the voltage is less than the second reference value, the process proceeds to step S3. If not, repeat step S2. Specifically, as indicated by the symbol e in FIG. 4D, the voltage of the single cell decreases due to the stop of the air supply, and the voltage detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 is the second reference value 0.2 V. If it is determined that the following condition is satisfied, the process proceeds to step S3. However, if it exceeds 0.2 V, step S2 is repeated. In the present embodiment, the determination is made based on the maximum value of the voltages in the plurality of fuel cell single cells. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the determination may be made based on the minimum value or the average value of the voltages of the fuel cell single cells detected by the plurality of fuel cell voltage sensors V1.
- the second reference value for example, 0.2 V
- Step S3 If the maximum value of the voltage of the single fuel cell detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 falls below the second reference value, the on / off switch 43 is turned off to disconnect the load 40 from the fuel cell stack 10. In this case, as indicated by symbol b in FIG. 4B, the current density of the fuel cell stack 10 decreases to 0 Acm ⁇ 2 .
- Step S4 With the load 40 disconnected, it is determined whether the voltage of the fuel cell single cell detected via the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 falls below a third reference value (for example, 0.6 V). Specifically, as indicated by the symbol f in FIG. 4 (D), the voltage of the fuel cell single cell once raised is lowered, and as a result, it is judged whether or not it falls below the third reference value of 0.6V. Do. Also in this step, the maximum value, the minimum value, the average value, etc. among the voltages in the plurality of fuel cell single cells detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 can be used as in the step S2. However, in this embodiment, in order to consume oxygen more reliably, when the maximum value of the voltage detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 falls below the third reference value, the process proceeds to step S5.
- a third reference value for example, 0.6 V.
- Step S5 The on / off switches 46 and 61 are turned on, and the process proceeds to step S6.
- Step S6 A voltage is gradually applied to the fuel cell stack 10 by the power manager 60 (see symbol c in FIG. 4C).
- the reason for gradually applying the voltage is to prevent the erroneous application of a large voltage to one fuel cell unit cell.
- Step S7 It is determined whether or not the voltage detected through all the fuel cell voltage sensors V1 is equal to or less than a fourth reference value (for example, 1.0 V), and the voltages detected by all the fuel cell voltage sensors V1 are the fourth If it is determined that the value is less than or equal to the reference value, the process proceeds to step S8. However, if it is determined that the voltages detected by all the fuel cell voltage sensors V1 exceed the fourth reference value, the process proceeds to step S11, and the cross leak diagnosis process is ended. Specifically, as indicated by the symbol g in FIG. 4D, all of the voltages detected by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 of the single fuel cell are less than or equal to 1.0 V which is the fourth reference value.
- a fourth reference value for example, 1.0 V
- Step S8 It is determined whether the voltage of the fuel cell stack 10 has reached the target stack voltage, and if it is determined that the voltage has reached the target stack voltage, the process proceeds to step S9, otherwise step S6 Return to and further raise the applied voltage. That is, as shown by symbol d in FIG. 4C, the voltage applied to the fuel cell stack 10 is graded in steps S6 to S8.
- the target stack voltage to be applied here is a voltage of an average fuel cell single cell obtained by dividing the stack voltage by the number of fuel cell single cells, and has a value of 0.2 V or more. In order to diagnose cross leaks, this must be caused by the hydrogen oxidation reaction of the oxidant electrode shown in the formula (1) described later. This is because the voltage must be 0.2 V or more per cell. In the present embodiment, a voltage of 0.5 V is applied per single fuel cell.
- Step S9 After applying the target stack voltage, diagnose the cross leak. At this time, as shown by the symbol h in FIG. 4D, when it is determined that the voltage of the fuel cell single cell detected via the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 is less than the first reference value, the voltage is detected. In the single fuel cell, it can be diagnosed that there is a possibility of cross leak. That is, it can be diagnosed that the electrolyte membrane may be damaged and the anode gas (fuel gas) may be leaked to the cathode electrode (oxidizer electrode).
- the first reference value can be, for example, 0.3 V.
- FIG. 5 is a graph showing a voltage of each fuel cell single cell when a target stack voltage is applied to a fuel cell stack formed by stacking a plurality of fuel cell single cells. Specifically, first, each fuel cell single cell 11 is numbered and then stacked to form the fuel cell stack 10. Thereafter, when a stack voltage of 50 V is applied to the fuel cell stack 10, the voltage of each single fuel cell is measured by the fuel cell voltage sensor V1. FIG. 5 shows the voltage of each single fuel cell at this time. As apparent from FIG. 5, one fuel cell single cell 11 having a voltage of 0.3 V or less is confirmed, and it can be judged that the fuel cell single cell 11 has cross leak.
- a pickup table in which the voltage of the fuel cell unit cell and the cross leak amount correspond to each other is stored in the storage unit of the control unit C, and the cross leak from the voltage of the fuel cell unit cell is made by referring to the pickup table.
- the amount can also be calculated.
- step S9 the mechanism in which the cross leak occurs when the voltage of each single fuel cell 11 is low will be described.
- What is being performed in step S1 to step S4 is to consume and reduce the oxygen present in the cathode electrode (oxidizer electrode) to provide a nitrogen atmosphere.
- the fuel cell voltage sensor V1 becomes equal to or less than the third reference value, so that a voltage can be applied from the battery 50 to the fuel cell stack 10 in that state.
- an oxidation reaction of hydrogen which has permeated through the electrolyte membrane 12 occurs in all the stacked fuel cell single cells 11 as shown in the formula (1).
- the above reaction occurs in all the stacked fuel cell single cells 11 and is stacked, so that the current value and the reaction rate are the same in all the fuel cell single cells 11.
- the reaction occurs with a smaller overvoltage due to the increase of hydrogen in the cathode electrode, and as a result, the voltage of the cross leak single fuel cell 11 decreases.
- the extraction of the current is stopped when the voltage of the fuel cell group becomes lower than the second reference value. That is, if the voltage of the fuel cell unit cell constituting the fuel cell stack is not below the second reference value, the possibility of a large amount of oxygen remaining on the cathode electrode side is indicated. And when a voltage is applied to a fuel cell single cell at this time, deterioration of carbon may be caused. Therefore, in the present embodiment, since the extraction of the current is stopped when the current value is lower than the second reference value, the occurrence of carbon deterioration can be prevented.
- the pressure of the anode gas can be made higher than the atmospheric pressure by pumping the anode gas higher than the atmospheric pressure by a hydrogen gas pressure increase / decrease device that increases or decreases the supply pressure of the anode gas supplied to the fuel cell unit it can. Therefore, the amount of cross leak increases, and the time required to detect the cross leak can be significantly shortened.
- the degree of deterioration of the electrolyte membrane can be determined by calculating the amount of cross leak in each single fuel cell. Therefore, for example, the fuel cell single cell can be replaced before a hole is formed in the electrolyte membrane, or an operation that does not increase the cross leak amount can be performed.
