Abstract
光子計数型画像検出器は、X線光子を検出する半導体セルと、検出されたX線光子に応答して集電される電荷を基に、電気パルスを生成するチャージアンプと、電気パルスを波高弁別する比較器と、波高弁別された電気パルスのうち、半導体セルで発生する特性X線のエネルギーに対応する電気パルスを非計数とするように制御する閾値論理回路と、閾値論理回路による制御に従って、弁別された電気パルスを計数するカウンタと、を備えた。
Description
本実施形態は、X線光子(粒子)を計数する光子計数型画像検出器と、その光子計数型画像検出器を備えるX線診断装置及びX線コンピュータ断層装置(X線CT装置)とに関する。
X線診断装置やX線CT装置では、半導体セル(X線検出物質)と、ASIC層ASから成る複数の処理回路とを備えた光子計数型画像検出器が用いられている。光子計数型画像検出器の理想の動作では、ある画素にエネルギーEinのX線光子がN個吸収された場合、X線光子の入射画素で検出される信号がEin×Nに比例し、かつ、X線光子の入射画素の周辺画素の信号がゼロであることが望ましい。

しかしながら、従来技術によると、実際には、X線の検出過程において、周辺画素への信号漏れがあるため、X線光子の入射画素の信号が、Ein×Nに比例せず、しかも、X線光子の入射画素の周辺画素の信号がゼロでない。
X線光子の入射画素ではない周辺画素に信号が現れるということは、画像特性としては、空間分解能が劣化していることになる。
また、周辺画素への信号の漏れる過程は確率過程であるため、複数のX線光子がある画素に入射した場合、入射1回ごとに周辺画素への信号漏れの結果は異なる。これは画像特性としては、画像のノイズを形成することに寄与する。
本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器、X線診断装置、及びX線CT装置について、添付図面を参照して説明する。
本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器は、上述した課題を解決するために、X線光子を検出するX線検出物質と、前記検出されたX線光子に応答して集電される電荷を基に、電気パルスを生成する電気パルス生成部と、前記電気パルスを波高弁別する弁別部と、前記波高弁別された電気パルスのうち、前記X線検出物質で発生する特性X線のエネルギーに対応する電気パルスを非計数とするように制御する制御部と、前記制御部による制御に従って、前記弁別された電気パルスを計数する計数部と、を備えた。
本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器は、X線診断装置やX線CT装置等に備えられるものであるが、以下、光子計数型画像検出器を、X線診断装置としての乳房X線撮影装置に備えるものとして説明する。
図1は、本実施形態の乳房X線撮影装置の全体の外観構成を示す斜視図である。
図1は、患者の乳房(被検体)を撮影する、本実施形態の乳房X線撮影装置1を示す。乳房X線撮影装置1は、撮影台装置11及び撮影制御/画像処理装置12によって構成される。
撮影台装置11は、アーム部15、スタンド部16、接続部17、及び操作部18を備える。アーム部15は、接続部17を介して回転可能なようにスタンド部16に支持される。
アーム部15は、X線管21、線質調整フィルタ/照射野制限マスク22、フェイスガード23、圧迫板24、グリッド25、光子計数型画像検出器26、圧迫フットペダル27、Cアーム上下/回転微調整スイッチ28、及び報知ランプ29を備える。スタンド部16は、情報表示パネル30及びサイドパネル31を備える。操作部18は、撮影条件設定パネル32及び高電圧供給装置33を備える。
アーム部15のX線管21は、操作部18の高電圧供給装置33からの高電圧電力の供給を受けて、この高電圧電力の条件に応じて患者の乳房を介して光子計数型画像検出器26に向かってX線を照射するための真空管である。
線質調整フィルタ/照射野制限マスク22は、X線管21の前面に配置される。線質調整フィルタ/照射野制限マスク22は、X線管21によって発生されたX線の線質を調整したり照射野を制限したりするための調整器具である。
フェイスガード23は、撮影時に患者の頭部をX線被曝から保護するための防護器具である。
圧迫板24は、光子計数型画像検出器26との間で患者の乳房を圧迫するために光子計数型画像検出器26の上方に設けられる圧迫器具である。圧迫板24は、透明な樹脂で形成されており、光子計数型画像検出器26に対して接離可能に支持されている。そして、圧迫板24を光子計数型画像検出器26側に移動させることによって患者の乳房を圧迫し、乳房の厚さを薄く略均一にすることが可能である。圧迫板24は、圧迫フットペダル27が技師等の撮影者によって操作された場合に、圧迫板24を上下方向に移動させるためのモータからなる駆動機構(図示しない)が駆動することによって上下方向に移動する。
グリッド25は、散乱線を除去して撮影画像のコントラストを改善するための器具である。
光子計数型画像検出器26は、後述する、半導体セル(X線検出物質)Sと、ASIC層ASから成る複数の処理回路Cとを備える。光子計数型画像検出器26から出力されるデジタル信号は、撮影制御/画像処理装置12に出力される。
圧迫フットペダル27は、圧迫板24の上下方向への位置を調整するための、操作者が踏むためのペダルである。
Cアーム上下/回転微調整スイッチ28は、X線管21や光子計数型画像検出器26等から構成されるCアームを上下に移動したり回転したりするためのスイッチである。
報知ランプ29としては、LED(light emitting diode)や、LCD(liquid crystal display)等が挙げられる。報知ランプ29は、撮影制御/画像処理装置12の制御によって点灯又は点滅する。
スタンド部16の情報表示パネル30は、圧迫情報等の各種情報を表示するためのパネルである。
サイドパネル31は、乳房X線撮影装置1の各部を制御するための操作パネルである。
操作部18の撮影条件設定パネル32は、X線撮影の条件を設定するためのパネルである。
高電圧供給装置33は、アーム部15のX線管21に電圧を供給する装置である。
撮影台装置11のX線管21によってX線が発生されると、そのX線は線質調整フィルタ/照射野制限マスク22によって照射範囲を絞られたうえで、圧迫板24と光子計数型画像検出器26との間で圧迫された乳房に照射される。そして、乳房を透過したX線は光子計数型画像検出器26によって検出され、デジタル信号として撮影制御/画像処理装置12に出力される。
撮影制御/画像処理装置12は、乳房X線撮影装置1全体の動作制御や、撮影台装置11によって取得された撮影画像に関する画像処理等を行なう装置である。撮影制御/画像処理装置12は、入力装置42、表示装置43、及びスピーカ44等を含む。
図2は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を中心とした電気的なブロック図である。
図2に示すように、光子計数型画像検出器26は、画素P毎に、半導体セルSと、ASIC層ASから成る複数の処理回路Cとを備える。ここで、図2に示す光子計数型画像検出器26が、図3(A)~(E)に示すように、A列1チャンネルの画素P[A1]からE列5チャンネルの画素P[A1]までの25個の画素Pを備えるものとして説明する。
各処理回路Cは、チャージアンプ51、波形整形回路52、n(n:正の整数)段の比較器(Dual Discri)531~53n、n段のスイッチ541~54n、閾値論理回路(Discri Logic)55、及びm段のカウンタ(Counter CLK)561~56mを備える。
チャージアンプ51は、半導体セルSの複数の集電電極のそれぞれに接続される。チャージアンプ51は、X線粒子の入射に応答して集電される電荷を電圧パルス信号として出力する。チャージアンプ51の出力端は、ゲイン及びオフセットが調整可能な波形整形回路52に接続される。
波形整形回路52は、検知した電圧パルス信号の波形を、予め調整されているゲイン及びオフセットで処理して波形整形する。波形整形回路52のゲイン及びオフセットは、半導体セルSの収集画素毎の電荷チャージアップ特性に対する不均一性を考慮した調整パラメータである。画素毎の波形整形回路52のゲイン及びオフセットをキャリブレーション作業にて事前に調整しておくことにより、かかる不均一性を排除した波形整形を行うことができる。この結果、各収集チャンネルの波形整形回路52から出力された、波形整形されたパルス信号は実質的に入射X線粒子のエネルギー量を反映した特性を有することになり、画素間のかかるばらつきは殆ど解消される。波形整形回路52の出力端は、複数の比較器531~53nの比較入力端にそれぞれ接続される。
比較器531~53nの各基準入力端には、それぞれ値が異なる基準値TH1(上限基準値THH)~THn(下限基準値THL)が印加されている。波形整形回路52から1個のパルス信号の波高値(吸収されたX線光子のエネルギー)を異なる基準値TH1~THnで比較することで、半導体セルSで吸収されたX線光子(X線粒子)のエネルギーを、事前に複数に分けて設定されたエネルギー領域のうちいずれかに弁別できる。例えば、nが3である場合、パルス信号の波高値が基準値TH1~TH3のどの値を超えているかにより、弁別されるエネルギー領域が異なる。波高値が基準値TH1とTH2との間にある場合、吸収されたX線光子のエネルギーは第1のエネルギー領域に含まれるように弁別される。波高値が基準値TH2とTH3との間にある場合、吸収されたX線光子のエネルギーは第2のエネルギー領域に含まれるように弁別される。波高値が基準値TH3(下限基準値THL)以下の場合や、基準値TH1(上限基準値THH)以上の場合は、外乱や半導体セルSやチャージアンプ51からのホワイトノイズを検出させないものとして弁別される。基準値TH1(上限基準値THH)以上の場合は、他にもX線光子が2個以上同時に画素に入射した場合にも起こりうるが、ここではそのような事象は発生確率が低いものとし画像情報を形成する主な信号ではないとして外乱などと同様に扱うものとする。
なお、基準値の数が3、すなわち、弁別可能なエネルギー領域の数が3の場合に限定されるものではない。基準値の数は、2や4等であってもよいし、場合によっては、1個であってもよい。基準値の数が1の場合には、X線光子が入射したか否かの情報のみが得られる。比較器531~53nの出力端は、スイッチ541~54nに接続される。
スイッチ541~54nは、比較器531~53nからそれぞれ出力されるパルス信号がスイッチ541~54nの基準値TH1~THnを超える場合にオンとなり、それ以外の場合にオフとなるように設計されている。例えば、スイッチ541は、比較器531から出力されるパルス信号がスイッチ541の基準値TH1を超える場合にオンとなり、それ以外の場合にオフとなるように設計されている。スイッチ541~54nの出力端は、閾値論理回路55に接続されている。
閾値論理回路55は、スイッチ541~54nからそれぞれ出力されるパルス信号を基に、比較器531~53nのうちいずれがオン(オフ)になっているかを読み取り、オンになっている比較器531~53nのうちの最大のパルス信号に対応する出力パルスを計数(カウント)するようにクロックパルスを発生する。閾値論理回路55の複数の出力端は、複数のカウンタ561~56mに各別に接続され、クロックパルスを計数する。複数のカウンタ561~56mはパルス信号の波高に対応してそれぞれのカウンタに計数するように動作する。例えばTH2を超えTH1より小さなパルスはカウンタ561で計数され、TH3を超えTH2より小さなパルスはカウンタ562で計数される(以下同様)。この場合は、必要なカウンタの数mは、比較器の数nを用いて、m=n-1となる。
別の例ではカウンタの数mは、比較器の数nを用いて、m<n-1となることもある。各比較器で波高弁別されたパルス数をそれぞれの波高範囲毎ではなく、複数の波高範囲をまとめて計数する場合がそれに当たる。もっとも小さいカウンタの数mは、m=1である。この場合、閾値論理回路55が出力するクロックパルスを1つのカウンタにより計数するので、X線光子のエネルギーの区別をせずに光子数を計数することになる。
カウンタ561~56mは、閾値論理回路55から出力されるクロックパルスをカウントアップして、各担当するエネルギー領域に入るX線光子の数を一定時間に渡って計測する。
このように、光子計数型画像検出器26は、リセットされるまでの一定時間の間に、複数のカウンタ561~56mにより、光子計数型画像検出器26の各画素Pに入射したX線光子の数をカウンタの段数mに応じたエネルギー領域毎に計測する。その結果としての計数値、すなわち、X線光子の計数値は、複数のカウンタ561~56mからデジタル量の検出データ(生データ)として読み出される。データ読出しは、ASIC層AS内に画素P毎に行なわれる。
画素P[A1]~P[E5]の計数値データは、撮影制御/画像処理装置12にそれぞれ送られる。
図3(A)~(E)は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を構成するある画素Pに1個のX線光子が入射する場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーの例を示す図である。一般に放射線の検出は放射線と検出物質の確率的な相互作用に基づいているため検出物質の層の厚さが十分厚くないと放射線が相互作用をせずに通り抜けてしまうことがある。光子計数型画像検出器26では半導体セルSが充分厚く、入射したX線光子のほぼ100%が半導体セルS内にエネルギーを付与する相互作用をおこなうものとする。
図3(A)は、光子計数型画像検出器26を構成する画素PのうちC列3チャンネルの画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が入射し、入射画素P[C3]にX線光子の全エネルギーEinが吸収された場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。図3(B)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が入射し、入射画素P[C3]で起きた光電効果によるK-X線の全エネルギーEkが入射画素P[C3]以外の非入射画素P[C2]に吸収された場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。図3(C)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が入射し、入射画素P[C3]で起きた光電効果によるエネルギーEkのK-X線が検出膜外に飛び出した場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。図3(D)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が入射し、入射画素P[C3]で起きた光電効果によるエネルギーEkのK-X線が非入射画素P[C2]で光電効果を起こし、発生したL線の全エネルギーElが非入射画素P[C2]以外の非入射画素P[D1]に吸収される場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。図3(E)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が入射し、入射画素P[C3]で起きた光電効果によるエネルギーEkのK-X線が非入射画素P[C2]で光電効果を起こし、発生したL線の全エネルギーElが入射画素P[C3]に吸収される場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。
X線が検出膜に吸収される過程が確率過程であることから、図3(B)~(E)に示した各例はどれもが起こり得るものであるため、エネルギーEinの1個のX線光子が画素P[C3]に入射する場合を例にとってみても、入射画素P[C3]以外の非入射画素Pにもエネルギーが吸収されてしまうため、X線画像の解像度が劣化する。また、図3(B)~(E)に示した各例において入射画素P[C3]に蓄積されるエネルギーが一定でなく、また、エネルギーを吸収する非入射画素Pが一定していないので、X線画像の画像ノイズの原因となる。
図4(A)~(C)は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を構成するある画素Pに1個のX線光子が入射する場合の入射画素Pの吸収エネルギーのイベント数を示す図である。なお、図4(A)~(C)において、エネルギーEinを「20」と、エネルギーEkを「12」と、エネルギーEl「5」とする。
図4(A)は、図3(A)に示す入射画素P[C3]のカウンタ561~56mが計数する、入射画素P[C3]の吸収エネルギーEinのイベント数を示す。図4(B)は、図3(B)~(D)に示す入射画素P[C3]のカウンタ561~56mが計数する、入射画素P[C3]の吸収エネルギーEin-Ekのイベント数を示す。図4(C)は、図3(E)に示す入射画素P[C3]のカウンタ561~56mが計数する、入射画素P[C3]の吸収エネルギーEin-Ek+Elのイベント数を示す。図4(A)~(C)及び後述の図5(A)~(C)では、比較器の段数nとカウンタの段数mが十分大きく、入射X線及び特性X線のエネルギーを弁別できることを前提としている。
図5(A)~(C)は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を構成するある画素Pに1個のX線光子が入射する場合の非入射画素Pの吸収エネルギーのイベント数を示す図である。なお、図5(A)~(C)において、図4(A)~(C)と同様に、エネルギーEinを「20」と、エネルギーEkを「12」と、エネルギーEl「5」とする。

図6(A),(B)は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を構成するある画素Pに複数のX線光子が入射する場合の光子計数型画像検出器26のエネルギースペクトルの例を示す図である。なお、図6(A),(B)において、図4(A)~(C)及び図5(A)~(C)と同様に、エネルギーEinを「20」と、エネルギーEkを「12」と、エネルギーEl「5」とする。
図6(A)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの複数のX線光子がそれぞれ入射する場合の入射画素P[C3]のエネルギースペクトルを示す。図6(B)は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinの複数のX線光子がそれぞれ入射する場合の非入射画素Pのエネルギースペクトルを示す。
複数のX線光子が画素P[C3]に入射した場合、X線光子の入射毎に、図3(A)~(E)を用いて説明したどれかの現象がある確率分布で起こり、これらがX線照射期間中に光子計数型画像検出器26に蓄積される。X線光子を検出しその吸収エネルギーを弁別する機能が画素P毎に構成されている光子計数型画像検出器26において、X線光子の入射画素P[C3]では、図4(A)~(C)に基づく図6(A)のエネルギースペクトルが得られ、X線光子の非入射画素Pでは、図5(A)~(C)に基づく図6(B)のエネルギースペクトルが得られる。なお、図6(A),(B)では、ある確率分布を仮定している。縦軸は相対値を示す。
図6(A)に示すように、入射画素P[C3]には、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elは現れない。逆に、図6(B)に示すように、非入射画素Pには、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elとそれらの差分エネルギーEk-Elが現れる。なお、図6(A),(B)で示す例は、入射X線のエネルギーEinの値、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elの値、各現象が起こる確率を適当に設定したものであるが、現実の半導体セルSについても同様のことが起きる。
図7は、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26を構成するある画素PにX線光子が入射する場合の光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーの例を示す図である。
図7は、画素P[C3]にエネルギーEinのM(M:正の整数)個のX線光子が入射する場合の、光子計数型画像検出器26の吸収エネルギーを示す。入射画素P[C3]では、エネルギーEinがm1(m1≦M)回、エネルギーEin-Ekがm2(m2≦M)回、エネルギーEin-Ek+Elがm3(m3≦M)回検出される。よって、入射画素P[C3]の計数結果Mは、M=(m1+m2+m3)であり、特性X線が確率に支配されて非入射画素Pに吸収されたり検出膜の外側に放出されたりすることにより、m1、m2、m3の値が変わってもこれらの合計値である入射画素P[C3]の計数結果Mは影響を受けない。入射したX線光子が半導体セルSと全く相互作用せずに透過してしまう場合は計数されないが、前述したように光子計数型画像検出器26では、半導体セルSが充分厚く入射したX線光子のほぼ100%が半導体セルS内にエネルギーを付与する相互作用をおこなうものとするため、上述したように計数結果Mは確率の影響をほとんど受けない。
図2に示す光子計数型画像検出器26の画素P毎の複数の比較器531~53nは、非入射画素Pで発生する特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elと、差分エネルギーEk-Elと、それ以外であって入射画素Pで吸収されるエネルギー(入射エネルギーEinと、差分エネルギーEin-Ek,Ein-Ek+El)とを弁別し(nは4以上)、閾値論理回路55は、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elと、差分エネルギーEk-Elとに基づくクロックパルスをカウンタ561~56mに送信しない。よって、カウンタ561~56mは、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elと、差分エネルギーEk-Elとを計数しないことになる。よって、光子計数型画像検出器26は、入射画素Pから漏れ出たX線に基づく信号を除去できる。
また、光子計数型画像検出器26は、特性X線のエネルギーEk,El以外のエネルギーについては、エネルギーによらず1イベントは1個と計数することにより、画素Pに吸収されたX線光子の数を数え落としなく計数できるので、X線光子の数をノイズなしに知ることができる。
(第1変形例)
X線診断装置で使用する入射X線のエネルギーと半導体セルSを構成するX線検出物質により、入射X線のエネルギー-特性X線のエネルギーと、特性X線のエネルギーと、入射X線のエネルギーとが次の式(1)に示すような大小関係の場合がある。その場合、上述の光子計数型画像検出器26によると、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elを非計数とするためには、比較器531~53n等が多段である必要があり、光子計数型画像検出器26の回路規模が大きくなるが、次のように実施することができる。
X線診断装置で使用する入射X線のエネルギーと半導体セルSを構成するX線検出物質により、入射X線のエネルギー-特性X線のエネルギーと、特性X線のエネルギーと、入射X線のエネルギーとが次の式(1)に示すような大小関係の場合がある。その場合、上述の光子計数型画像検出器26によると、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elを非計数とするためには、比較器531~53n等が多段である必要があり、光子計数型画像検出器26の回路規模が大きくなるが、次のように実施することができる。

図9に示すように、閾値論理回路55は、比較器534からパルス信号を取得し、かつ、比較器533,532,531からパルス信号を取得しない場合、吸収されたエネルギーは入射X線のエネルギー-特性X線のエネルギーであると判断する。閾値論理回路55は、比較器533からパルス信号を取得し、かつ、比較器532,531からパルス信号を取得しない場合、吸収されたエネルギーは特性X線のエネルギーであると判断する。閾値論理回路55は、比較器532からパルス信号を取得し、かつ、比較器531からパルス信号を取得しない場合、吸収されたエネルギーは入射X線のエネルギーであると判断する。
図9で説明した閾値論理回路55によると特性X線エネルギーを識別できるので、吸収されたエネルギーが特性X線エネルギーと判断された場合にカウンタ561~56mにクロックパルスを出力しないことで、4段の比較器531~534で特性X線エネルギーを非計数とする構成を実現できる。
(第2変形例)
上述の光子計数型画像検出器26によると、特性X線のエネルギーEk,Elを非計数とするためには、比較器531~53n等が多段である必要があり、光子計数型画像検出器26の回路規模が大きくなる。入射X線のエネルギー-特性X線のエネルギーと、特性X線のエネルギーと、入射X線のエネルギーとが次の式(3)に示すような大小関係となるようにX線診断装置で用いられるX線エネルギーと半導体セルSを構成するX線検出物質とを適切に選定することにより回路規模を小さくすることができる。なお、次の式(3)に示す閾値余裕幅(en)は、回路ノイズにより決まる電圧をX線エネルギーに換算したもので、回路ノイズが小さければ、閾値余裕幅(en)も小さくてよい。

図10は、X線診断装置や、X線CT装置で用いられる、連続X線スペクトル及び累積光子数をグラフとして示す図である。図10は、入射X線のX線スペクトルの上限エネルギー及び下限エネルギーの一例を示す。
図10は、X線スペクトルの全体が含まれるエネルギー範囲のX線スペクトル(光子数)と、ある物理量(例えば、エネルギー及び光子数等)の累積積分曲線としての累積光子数とを示す。図10に示す例では、X線スペクトルの上限エネルギーを、光子数全体の99%以上に相当するエネルギー範囲の下限と定義する。また、X線スペクトルの下限エネルギーを、光子数全体の1%以下に相当するエネルギー範囲の上限と定義する。
撮影制御/画像処理装置12は、入射X線のX線スペクトル及び、X線スペクトルの上限エネルギー及び下限エネルギーを図10に示すように制御するために、X線管21の陽極材料と、X線管21に印加する管電圧と、線質調整フィルタ/照射野制限マスク22とを制御することでX線の線質を制御する。
以上のように入射X線のスペクトルを制御し半導体セルSの適切な選定を行なえば、2段の比較器541,542を備える構成とすることができることを以下に示す。入射X線のエネルギーと半導体セルSとの適切な制御及び選定を行ない、基準値THH,THLを、次の式(5-1),(5-2)にように設定する。なお、式(5-1)に示す入射X線の最大エネルギー(電圧)は、入射X線の内の最大エネルギーを電圧に換算した場合の電圧値である。また、式(5-2)に示す特性X線のエネルギー(電圧)は、特性X線のエネルギーを電圧に換算した場合の電圧値である。

なお、撮影制御/画像処理装置12が行なうX線スペクトルの上限エネルギーの制御の具体例を説明する。X線管21の管電圧をEtube[kV]とすると、入射X線のX線スペクトルは、Etube[keV]以下に制限される。また、別の方法として、X線管21の照射口付近に、所定の元素を含むビームフィルタを設置すると、元素のK吸収端Ek_bmfltよりわずかに大きいエネルギーでのX線吸収が大きくなるので、Ek_bmfltがX線スペクトルの高エネルギー側に相当する元素を選択することにより、スペクトルの上限を制御することができる。
また、撮影制御/画像処理装置12が行なうX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーの制御の具体例を説明する。X線画像の生成に使用するエネルギー範囲よりも小さいK吸収端を有する(軽い)元素をビームフィルタとして用いる。その場合、エネルギーが小さくなるに従って吸収が大きくなるので、それを利用してX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーを制御する。
本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26や、光子計数型画像検出器26を備えるX線診断装置及びX線CT装置によると、検出器内部での信号の広がりを低減できるので、解像度の高いX線画像を提供することができる。また、信号の広がりは確率的な現象であるので、信号広がりを低減することでX線画像の画像ノイズを低減することもできる。
さらに、本実施形態の光子計数型画像検出器26の変形例や、光子計数型画像検出器26の変形例を備えるX線診断装置及びX線CT装置によると、複雑な(多段の)回路構成を用いることなく、解像度の高いX線画像を提供することができる。

Claims (13)
- X線光子を検出するX線検出物質と、
前記検出されたX線光子に応答して集電される電荷を基に、電気パルスを生成する電気パルス生成部と、
前記電気パルスを波高弁別する弁別部と、
前記波高弁別された電気パルスのうち、前記X線検出物質で発生する特性X線のエネルギーに対応する電気パルスを非計数とするように制御する制御部と、
前記制御部による制御に従って、前記弁別された電気パルスを計数する計数部と、
を備えた光子計数型画像検出器。 - 請求項1に記載の前記光子計数型画像検出器を備えたX線診断装置。
- 前記制御部は、前記波高弁別された電気パルスのうち、前記特性X線のエネルギーに対応する電気パルスと、前記X線検出物質で発生する、複数の異なる特性X線のエネルギーの差分エネルギーに対応する電気パルスとを非計数とするように制御する請求項2に記載のX線診断装置。
- 前記X線管の陽極材料と、前記X線管に印加する管電圧と、前記X線管の前面に配置される線質フィルタとを制御することで、前記X線の線質を制御する線質制御部をさらに備え、
前記線質制御部は、前記X線のX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーが前記X線検出物質の特性X線エネルギーの2倍を超えるように前記X線の線質を制御する請求項2又は3に記載のX線診断装置。 - 前記X線管の陽極材料と、前記X線管に印加する管電圧と、前記X線管の前面に配置される線質フィルタとを制御することで、前記X線の線質を制御する線質制御部をさらに備え、
前記X線検出物質が複数の元素によって構成される場合、前記線質制御部は、前記X線のX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーが、前記複数の元素の特性X線エネルギーのうち最も大きい特性X線エネルギーの2倍を超えるように前記X線の線質を制御する請求項2又は3に記載のX線診断装置。 - 前記X線管の陽極材料と、前記X線管に印加する管電圧と、前記X線管の前面に配置される線質フィルタとを制御することで、前記X線の線質を制御する線質制御部をさらに備え、
前記線質制御部は、前記特性X線エネルギーとしての第1の特性X線エネルギーと、前記第1の特性X線エネルギーよりエネルギーが小さい、前記特性X線エネルギーとしての第2の特性エネルギーとを含み、かつ、前記第1の特性X線エネルギーと前記第2の特性X線エネルギーとの間に別の特性X線エネルギーが存在しない場合、前記X線のX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーが前記第2の特性X線エネルギーの2倍を超え、かつ、前記X線スペクトルの上限エネルギーが第1の特性X線エネルギーを超えないように前記X線の線質を制御する請求項2又は3に記載のX線診断装置。 - 前記X線管の陽極材料と、前記X線管に印加する管電圧と、前記X線管の前面に配置される線質フィルタとを制御することで、前記X線の線質を制御する線質制御部をさらに備え、
前記X線検出物質が複数の元素によって構成される場合、前記線質制御部は、前記特性X線エネルギーとしての第1の特性X線エネルギーと、前記第1の特性X線エネルギーよりエネルギーが小さい、前記特性X線エネルギーとしての第2の特性エネルギーとを含み、かつ、前記第1の特性X線エネルギーと前記第2の特性X線エネルギーとの間に別の特性X線エネルギーが存在しない場合、前記X線のX線スペクトルの下限エネルギーが、前記複数の元素の第2の特性X線エネルギーのうち最も大きい第2の特性X線エネルギーの2倍を超え、かつ、前記X線スペクトルの上限エネルギーが、前記複数の元素の第1の特性X線エネルギーのうち最も小さい第1の特性X線エネルギーを超えないように前記X線の線質を制御する請求項2又は3に記載のX線診断装置。 - 請求項1に記載の前記光子計数型画像検出器を備えたX線コンピュータ断層装置。
- 前記制御部は、前記波高弁別された電気パルスのうち、前記特性X線のエネルギーに対応する電気パルスと、前記X線検出物質で発生する、複数の異なる特性X線のエネルギーの差分エネルギーに対応する電気パルスとを非計数とするように制御する請求項6に記載のX線コンピュータ断層装置。
