Abstract

The invention relates to a parasol, comprising a guide shaft (2) with which the parasol is attachable during use to the fixed world; a first tensioning member connecting means (6) arranged on the guide shaft; a second tensioning member connecting means (8) for collapsing or spreading a canopy (10) of flexible material, wherein the second tensioning member connecting means is arranged translatably in longitudinal direction along the guide shaft; canopy tensioning means comprising a set of first tensioning members (14) and a set of corresponding second tensioning members (16) wherein the first tensioning members are arranged pivotally on the first tensioning member connecting means (6) and extend therefrom; wherein the second tensioning members are arranged pivotally with a first outer end (22) on the second tensioning member connecting means (8) and are connected pivotally with their second outer end (24) to a corresponding first tensioning member (14); wherein the first tensioning members have different lengths and the canopy has a rotation-asymmetrical and line- symmetrical shape; and wherein rotation influencing means are provided for the purpose of enhancing or reducing the rotation of the canopy (10) of the parasol relative to the fixed world.
