Definitions
- the present specification refers, as its title indicates, to an electromagnet with axial force control for friction welding and other applications, of the type used industrially for automated welding of metal plates and for machining by chip removal, characterized in that it integrates in the body of the electromagnet a force sensor, related to the tool by means of an axially movable internal axis, and which, by means of an electromechanical actuator, allows to adjust in real time and locally the height of the tool on the material to welding, maintaining a constant and controlled force during the process.
- Friction or beating welding known by its acronym in English (FSW - Friction Stir Welding) is a two-piece joining process, which is carried out in a solid state and in which a cylindrical tool, with a pin at its end , is introduced into the joint between the two pieces to be welded.
- a cylindrical tool with a pin at its end
- the material will begin to soften! acquiring a plastic state, said tool will penetrate the joint.
- the tool will begin to move along the joint by moving the material that was on the front face of the pin to the rear face through the rotational movement of said tool, when the material cools, it will go back to a solid state producing the union of both parts by welding.
- the energy balance of this process compared to the arc processes (TIG and MIG) is of the order of 500% lower.
- FSW welds type FSW can be done in a single pass in industrial machines, eliminating the need for multi-pass welding in arc welding, with all the savings of inspection and rectification between passes. FSW welding does not require any protection gas, with the consequent savings in gas acquisition and storage and all that this entails in environmental safety.
- the welds by FSW do not have the porosity and cracking problems associated with fusion welding techniques, nor do they affect the variations between castings in the supply material.
- the FSW is cleaner in terms of fumes and projections common to fusion welded joints.
- FSW type joints also exhibit minor distortions after manufacturing.
- This system is intended to increase the speed of work with the necessary quality to compete with conventional welding. This implies large speeds of force correction that are impossible to achieve with the movement of the entire machine, due to the enormous masses to move or accelerate and the frequencies that are generated for this purpose.
- the dynamics depend directly on the rigidity and agility of response, so the current systems are very heavy (CNC machines) or very weak (articulated robots).
- the electromagnet has been devised with axial force control for friction welding and other applications object of the present invention, which integrates in the body of A force sensor, related to the tool by means of an axially movable internal axis, and which, by means of an electromechanical actuator, allows to adjust in real time and locally the height of the tool on the material to be welded, maintaining a constant force which causes a weld without imperfections.
- This axially displaceable internal axis is located coaxially inside the axis of rotation integral with the rotor of the electromagnet motor.
- the force sensor is located in the part of the electro-mandrel opposite the tool, not forcing it to extend its axis of rotation and eliminating problems of lack of rigidity.
- the electromandrino has a tool tie that allows the automatic change of the same allowing its use and compatibility for other functions such as machining in addition to friction welding, for example milling.
- This electromagnet with axial force control for friction welding and other applications presented provides multiple advantages over the systems currently available, the most important being the one that allows to achieve a height correction based on the force, automatically in the electromandrino itself, with much greater precision and speed, getting a more uniform welding and without irregularities.
- Another important advantage is the integration of the control system in the electromagnet thus making the height control of the friction welding machine independent. With this height control and an internal sensor, dynamic adjustment of the force applied during the welding process is achieved.
- Another important advantage is to combine the height control system with a quick tool change system to maintain the industrial concept of the system.
- figure -1 - shows a simplified schematic view of the elements of the electro-borer, with the tool holder mounted.
- Figure -2- shows a simplified schematic view of the elements of the electromandrino, with the tool holder removed.
- Figure -3- shows a side view of an example of an electromechanical actuator (9) formed by a motor and three spindles connected by belts.
- Figure -4- shows a detail of a top view of an example of an electromechanical actuator (9) formed by a motor and three spindles connected by belts.
- the electromagnet with axial force control for friction welding and other applications object of the present invention basically comprises, as can be seen in the annexed plane, in the body (1) of the electromandrine, a rotation shaft (3) integral with the rotor (1 1) which together with the stator (12), make up the rotation motor of the electromandrino, having this axis (3) of rotation of a tool holder (2), interchangeable by means of an automatic mooring (10), and also being equipped the axis (3) of an axial displacement relative to the rotor (1 1) that relates it to a force sensor (7) located in the opposite part of the tool holder (2) and subject to an axial electromechanical system (9)
- control circuit (8) associated with the force sensor (7) which in turn regulates, in real time, by means of an axial electromechanical system (9), the axis (3) on the material to be welded.
- the axial electromechanical system (9) is preferably formed by at least one motor (13) which, by means of a main belt (14) and a secondary belt (15), transmits the rotation to several pulleys (16) which in turn , by means of spindles (17) axially displace the shaft (3) of the electromandrino.
- the number of spindles (17) will preferably be three, to facilitate a smooth and precise axial displacement of the electro-mandrel.
- the electromechanical system (9) may be formed by at least one motor and one or more spindles, or be made by means of a piezoelectric type electromechanical actuator (9).
- the axial movement of the rotating shaft (3) with respect to the rotating rotor (1 1) is achieved by means of a rolling cage or by means of adjusting bushings interposed between them.
- This friction welding electro-borer involves a friction welding procedure formed by a first phase of tool placement, followed by a second phase of insertion of the tool into material, followed by a third welding phase with automatic force regulation .
- the first phase of placement consists of the automatic hitching in the mooring (10) of a tool holder (2) equipped with cylindrical tool (5) with pin (6).
- the second phase of introduction consists in the joint rotation at high revolutions of the rotor (1 1), the axis (3), the axis (4), and through the clamp (8), of the tool (5) cylindrical with pin (6), resting pin (6) on the junction of the materials to be welded until the material melts, leaving pin (6) rotating buried in the material.
- the third welding phase consists, incessantly of the revolutions, in the longitudinal advance 5 of the electromandrino along the line of union of the materials, propitiated by the machine associated to the electromandrino, with an automatic regulation of the force in the electromandrino made by means of the axial electromechanical system (9) based on the signals coming from the control circuit (8) that continuously measures the force applied to the tool (5) io by axial displacement of the axis (3) as a function of the irregularities of the surface to be welded and its measurement using the force sensor (7).
