固体電解質形燃料電池
 本発明は、一般的には固体電解質形燃料電池に関し、特にアノードガスとカソードガスの供給路を有する固体電解質形燃料電池に関するものである。
 一般的に、平板型の固体電解質形燃料電池(固体酸化物燃料電池(SOFC)ともいう)は、各々がアノード(負極)、固体電解質およびカソード(正極)からなる発電要素としての平板状の複数のセルと、複数のセルの間に配置されるセパレータ(インタコネクタともいう)とから構成される。セパレータは、複数のセルを相互に電気的に直列に接続し、かつ、複数のセルの各々に供給されるガスを分離するために、具体的にはアノードに供給されるアノードガスとしての燃料ガス(たとえば水素)と、カソードに供給されるカソードガスとしての酸化剤ガス(たとえば空気)とを分離するために複数のセルの間に配置される。
 従来から、セパレータは、ランタンクロマイト(LaCrO3)等の導電性のセラミックス材料から形成されている。このような導電性材料を用いてセパレータを形成すると、一種類の材料で上記の電気的接続とガスの分離という機能を果たす部材を構成することができる。
 たとえば、特開平6-52872号公報(以下、特許文献1という)には、固体電解質形燃料電池用封着材の構造が開示されている。
 特許文献1では、平板状に一体に積層された燃料電池単電池は、順次、積層合体されたセパレータ、燃料電極層、固体電解質層、空気電極層およびセパレータによって構成される。燃料電池単電池の4側面のうち空気供給面となる側面には空気供給マニホールドが連結され、燃料ガス供給面となる側面には燃料ガス供給マニホールドが連結され、燃料ガス排出面となる側面には燃料ガスを排出するための燃料ガス排出マニホールドが連結され、空気排出面となる側面には空気を排出するための空気排出マニホールドが連結されている。セパレータは、導電性のセラミックス材料であるLa(Cr・Mg)O3から形成される。各ガス通路用マニホールドは、希土類元素の酸化物を含むジルコニア製である。燃料電池単電池と電気絶縁性の各マニホールドとは、電気絶縁性のセラミックス材料からなる封着材を用いて密封連結されている。

 上述したように、特許文献1に開示された平板状固体電解質形燃料電池では、セパレータはセラミックス材料からなる。セラミックス材料からなるセパレータは、燃料電極層、固体電解質層および空気電極層からなるセルに対して熱膨張の挙動をほぼ一致させるように構成され得るが、熱伝導率が低い。このため、発電によって発生する熱を、セパレータを通じて外部に放散することが困難である。これにより、発電によって発生する熱に起因して、セパレータの温度が局所的に上昇し、ひいてはセル内の温度が局所的に上昇するという問題がある。
 また、セパレータと燃料電極層、固体電解質層および空気電極層の三層とが一体的に形成されると、セパレータは、上記の発熱を熱膨張(熱歪)として吸収しても、その熱膨張に応じて、セパレータとセルは変形することが困難になる。
 さらに、セラミックス材料からなるセパレータはヤング率が大きいので、上記の発熱を熱歪として吸収すると、セパレータには大きな熱応力が生じる。しかし、上述したように、その大きな熱応力に応じてセパレータとセルは変形することができないので、破壊されやすいという問題がある。
 したがって、発電によって発生する熱に起因してセパレータとセルの温度が局所的に上昇することにより、セパレータが発熱による熱膨張に応じて変形することができずに、ひいてはセルが破壊する恐れがある。
 そこで、本発明の目的は、セラミックス材料からなるセパレータを用いても、セパレータとセルの局所的な温度上昇を抑制することが可能な固体電解質形燃料電池を提供することである。
 本発明に従った固体電解質形燃料電池は、電池構造部と、セル間分離部と、ガス供給路構造部とを備える。電池構造部は、各々がアノード、固体電解質およびカソードからなる複数のセルを含む。セル間分離部は、複数のセルの間に配置され、セラミックスを含む材料から形成されている。ガス供給路構造部は、セルにアノードガスを供給するアノードガス供給路と、セルにカソードガスを供給するカソードガス供給路とを有する。アノードガス供給路またはカソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が電池構造部の内部に配置されている。
 本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池においては、アノードガス供給路またはカソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が電池構造部の内部に配置されているので、アノードガスまたはカソードガスの少なくともいずれか一方が、電池構造部の内部から外部に流れる。このため、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部とセルの温度が発電によって発生する熱に起因して局所的に上昇するのを抑制することができる。これにより、セル間分離部に生じる熱応力を小さくすることができるので、セル間分離部とセルが破壊するのを防止することができる。
 また、アノードガスまたはカソードガスの少なくともいずれか一方が、電池構造部の内部から外部に流れるので、発電によって発生する熱を冷却するガスとして作用する。このため、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 さらに、電池構造部の内部に配置されたアノードガス供給路またはカソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方によって、アノードまたはカソードの少なくともいずれか一方が分断されるため、発電によって熱が発生する箇所を分散することができる。これにより、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池において、電池構造部の内部は、電池構造部の側面から内方に向かって電池構造部の幅寸法の1/3以上離れた内側にあることが好ましい。
 本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池において、ガス供給路構造部とセル間分離部とが一体的に形成されていることが好ましい。
 このように構成することにより、マニホールドの機能を果たすガス供給路構造部と、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部とが一体的に形成されているので、セパレータとマニホールドの二つの機能を果たす部分が連続して形成されている。このため、従来の固体電解質形燃料電池において必要であった、セパレータ間とセル‐マニホールド間のシール部材が不要となる。これにより、電池全体としてのガスに対するシール性を高めることができ、部材点数を少なくすることができ、その結果として製造工程数を削減することができる。
 また、本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池において、ガス供給路構造部と固体電解質とが一体的に形成されていることが好ましい。
 このように構成することにより、ガス供給路構造部と固体電解質が接する部分においてガラス等を用いてシールする必要がなくなる。
 さらに、本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池において、セル間分離部は、セラミックスからなり、かつ、複数のセルの各々に供給されるアノードガスとカソードガスを分離する電気絶縁体と、電気絶縁体内に形成され、かつ、複数のセルを相互に電気的に接続する電気導電体とから形成されていることが好ましい。
 なお、本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池において、アノードガス供給路またはカソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が、一方向に延在する開口を含んでもよく、あるいは、一方向に間隔をあけて配置された複数の開口を含んでもよい。
 以上のように本発明によれば、セラミックス材料からなるセパレータを用いても、発電によって発生するセパレータとセルの局所的な温度上昇を抑制することができるので、セパレータとセルが破壊するのを防止することができる。

 以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づいて説明する。
 図1は、本発明の実施の形態として、固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュールの概略的な構成を示す断面図である。図2は、図1の単位モジュールを複数備えた固体電解質形燃料電池の概略的な構成を示す断面図である。
 図1に示すように、固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュール(固体電解質形燃料電池モジュール)1は、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体(以下、「支持構造体」という)20を備える。支持構造体20の一方側の表面上には、セルを構成するアノード層としての厚みが100~300μmの燃料極層11と、厚みが10~50μmの固体電解質層12と、カソード層としての厚みが100~300μmの空気極層13とが形成されている。単一の電池構造部は、燃料極層11、固体電解質層12および空気極層13からなるセルを含む。なお、図1では、支持構造体20の一方側の表面上に、電池構造部として、燃料極層11、固体電解質層12および空気極層13が順に形成されることによって単位モジュールが構成されているが、空気極層13、固体電解質層12および燃料極層11が順に形成されることによって単位モジュールが構成されてもよい。
 図2に示すように、固体電解質形燃料電池100は、電池構造部として複数のセル10を有し、最上部に位置するセルには支持構造体20を介して厚みが10~20μmの集電板30が電気的に接続するように配置され、最下部に位置するセルには支持構造体20を介して厚みが10~20μmの集電板40が電気的に接続するように配置されている。複数のセル10の各々は、順に積層された燃料極層11と固体電解質層12と空気極層13とからなる。支持構造体20は、複数のセル10の間に配置される厚みが100μm程度のセラミックスを含む材料からなるセル間分離部21aと、セラミックスからなるガス供給路構造部21bとから構成される。
 図1と図2に示すように、セル間分離部21aは、複数のセルの各々に供給されるアノードガスとしての燃料ガスと、カソードガスとしての酸化剤ガスである空気とを分離する電気絶縁体21と、電気絶縁体21内に形成され、かつ、複数のセル10を相互に電気的に接続する複数の電気導電体22とから形成される。集電板30は電気導電体22を通じて最上部のセルの燃料極層11に電気的に接続され、集電板40は電気導電体22を通じて最下部のセルの空気極層13に電気的に接続されている。
 図1と図2に示すように、ガス供給路構造部21bの本体、すなわち、燃料ガス供給路23と空気供給路24を形成する壁部は、セラミックスからなり、セル間分離部21aを形成する電気絶縁体21と同じ電気絶縁体からなり、セル間分離部21aを形成する電気絶縁体21に連続して形成されている。すなわち、ガス供給路構造部21bとセル間分離部21aとが一体的に形成されている。また、ガス供給路構造部21bと固体電解質層12とが一体的に形成されている。
 なお、電気絶縁体21は、たとえば、添加量3モル%のイットリア(Y23)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(イットリア安定化ジルコニア:YSZ)、添加量12モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(セリア安定化ジルコニア:CeSZ)等を用いて形成される。電気導電体22は、たとえば、銀(Ag)‐白金(Pt)合金、銀(Ag)‐パラジウム(Pd)合金等を用いて形成される。固体電解質層12は、たとえば、添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)、添加量11モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジア安定化ジルコニア:ScSZ)等を用いて形成される。燃料極層11は、たとえば、酸化ニッケル(NiO)と、添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)との混合物等を用いて形成される。空気極層13は、たとえば、La0.8Sr0.2MnO3と、添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)との混合物等を用いて形成される。集電板30と40は、たとえば、銀(Ag)から形成される。
 (実施形態1)
 図3は、図1の単位モジュールの概略的な構成を示す平面図である。図3のII-II線に沿った方向から見た断面が図1と図2に対応する。
 図3に示すように、電池構造部を構成する単一のセルは、2つの燃料極層11a、11bと2つの空気極層13a、13bを備えている。図示されていないが、2つの燃料極層11a、11bと2つの空気極層13a、13bの間には、固体電解質層が介在している。支持構造体20の一部であるガス供給路構造部21bには、セルに燃料ガスを供給するためのアノードガス供給路としての2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと、セルに空気を供給するためのカソードガス供給路としての1つの空気供給路24とが形成されている。燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24のそれぞれは、一方向に延在する開口、すなわち、細長い貫通孔で形成されている。図示されていないが、支持構造体20と同じ大きさの固体電解質層にも、2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと1つの空気供給路24とが形成されている。
 燃料ガス供給路23aは燃料極層11aの一方側(図3にて左側)の側面に接触するように配置され、燃料ガス供給路23bは燃料極層11bの一方側(図3にて左側)の側面に接触するように配置されている。空気供給路24は、空気極層13aと空気極層13bの間に介在し、空気極層13aの一方側の側面(図3にて下側)に接触するように配置され、かつ、空気極層13bの一方側の側面(図3にて上側)に接触するように配置されている。この配置により、空気供給路24が電池構造部の内部に配置されている。
 図3において、燃料ガスは、左側に配置された燃料ガス供給路23a、23bのそれぞれから右に向かって燃料極層11a、11bのそれぞれに流れる。空気は、電池構造部の内部または中央部に配置された空気供給路24から上に向かって空気極層13aに流れるとともに、空気供給路24から下に向かって空気極層13bに流れる。このように、実施形態1の固体電解質形燃料電池100では、燃料ガスの流れと空気の流れが直交する。
 図4は、図2に示す支持構造体20の部分20aを構成する部分20a1を示す。図4(A)に示すように、部分20a1には、2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと1つの空気供給路24とが形成されている。燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24のそれぞれは、一方向に延在する開口、すなわち、細長い貫通孔で形成されている。変形例として、図4(B)に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24のそれぞれは、一方向に間隔をあけて配置された複数の開口、すなわち、複数の円形状の貫通孔で形成されてもよい。
 (実施形態2)
 図12は、図1の単位モジュールの概略的な構成を示す平面図である。図12のII-II線に沿った方向から見た断面が図1と図2に対応する。
 図12に示すように、電池構造部を構成する単一のセルは、4つの燃料極層11a、11b、11c、11dと4つの空気極層13a、13b、13c、13dを備えている。図示されていないが、4つの燃料極層11a、11b、11c、11dと4つの空気極層13a、13b、13c、13dの間には、固体電解質層が介在している。支持構造体20の一部であるガス供給路構造部21bには、セルに燃料ガスを供給するためのアノードガス供給路としての2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと、セルに空気を供給するためのカソードガス供給路としての2つの空気供給路24a、24bとが形成されている。燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24a、24bのそれぞれは、一方向に延在する開口、すなわち、細長い貫通孔で形成されている。図示されていないが、支持構造体20と同じ大きさの固体電解質層にも、2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと2つの空気供給路24a、24bとが形成されている。
 燃料ガス供給路23aは、燃料極層11aと燃料極層11bの間に介在し、燃料極層11aの一方側の側面(図12にて右側)に接触するように配置され、かつ、燃料極層11bの一方側の側面(図12にて左側)に接触するように配置されている。燃料ガス供給路23bは、燃料極層11cと燃料極層11dの間に介在し、燃料極層11cの一方側の側面(図12にて右側)に接触するように配置され、かつ、燃料極層11dの一方側の側面(図12にて左側)に接触するように配置されている。この配置により、燃料ガス供給路23が電池構造部の内部に配置されている。
 空気供給路24aは、空気極層13aと空気極層13cの間に介在し、空気極層13aの一方側の側面(図12にて下側)に接触するように配置され、かつ、空気極層13cの一方側の側面(図12にて上側)に接触するように配置されている。空気供給路24bは、空気極層13bと空気極層13dの間に介在し、空気極層13bの一方側の側面(図12にて下側)に接触するように配置され、かつ、空気極層13dの一方側の側面(図12にて上側)に接触するように配置されている。この配置により、空気供給路24が電池構造部の内部に配置されている。
 図12において、燃料ガスは、電池構造部の内部または中央部に配置された燃料ガス供給路23a、23bのそれぞれから左右方向に燃料極層11a、11b、11c、11dのそれぞれに流れる。空気は、電池構造部の内部または中央部に配置された空気供給路24a、24bのそれぞれから上下方向に空気極層13a、13b、13c、13dのそれぞれに流れる。このように、実施形態2の固体電解質形燃料電池100では、燃料ガスの流れと空気の流れが直交する。
 図13は、図2に示す支持構造体20の部分20aを構成する部分20a1を示す。図13(A)に示すように、部分20a1には、2つの燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと2つの空気供給路24a、24bが形成されている。燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24a、24bのそれぞれは、一方向に延在する開口、すなわち、細長い貫通孔で形成されている。変形例として、図13(B)に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bおよび空気供給路24a、24bのそれぞれは、一方向に間隔をあけて配置された複数の開口、すなわち、複数の円形状の貫通孔で形成されてもよい。
 以上のように構成された固体電解質形燃料電池100においては、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bまたは空気供給路24a、24bの少なくともいずれか一方が電池構造部の内部に配置されているので、燃料ガスまたは空気の少なくともいずれか一方が、電池構造部の内部から外部に流れる。このため、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部21aとセルの温度が発電によって発生する熱に起因して局所的に上昇するのを抑制することができる。これにより、セル間分離部21aに生じる熱応力を小さくすることができるので、セル間分離部21aとセルが破壊するのを防止することができる。
 また、燃料ガスまたは空気の少なくともいずれか一方が、電池構造部の内部から外部に流れるので、発電によって発生する熱を冷却するガスとして作用する。このため、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 さらに、電池構造部の内部に配置された燃料ガス供給路23a、23bまたは空気供給路24、24a、24bの少なくともいずれか一方によって、燃料極層11a~11dまたは空気極層13a~13dの少なくともいずれか一方が分断されるため、発電によって熱が発生する箇所を分散することができる。これにより、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池100において、ガス供給路構造部21bとセル間分離部21aとが一体的に形成されている。このように構成することにより、マニホールドの機能を果たすガス供給路構造部21bと、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部21aとが一体的に形成されているので、セパレータとマニホールドの二つの機能を果たす部分が連続して形成されている。このため、従来の固体電解質形燃料電池において必要であった、セパレータ間とセル‐マニホールド間のシール部材が不要となる。これにより、電池全体としてのガスに対するシール性を高めることができ、部材点数を少なくすることができ、その結果として製造工程数を削減することができる。
 また、本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池100において、ガス供給路構造部21bと固体電解質層12とが一体的に形成されている。このように構成することにより、ガス供給路構造部21bと固体電解質層12が接する部分においてガラス等を用いてシールする必要がなくなる。
 以下、本発明の固体電解質形燃料電池を作製した実施例1、2と、本発明の構造と比較するために固体電解質形燃料電池を作製した比較例について説明する。
 (実施例1)
 まず、図1~図3に示す実施形態1の固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュールを構成する各部材の材料粉末を以下のとおり準備した。
 燃料極層11a、11b:酸化ニッケル(NiO)60重量%と、添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)40重量%との混合物
 固体電解質層12:添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc2O3)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)
 空気極層13a、13b:La0.8Sr0.2MnO360重量%と、添加量10モル%のスカンジア(Sc23)と添加量1モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(スカンジアセリア安定化ジルコニア:ScCeSZ)40重量%との混合物
 図1に示す固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20にて部分20a、部分20bおよび部分20c(図2)については、電気絶縁材料を作製するために以下に示す材料粉末を準備した。
 添加量12モル%のセリア(CeO2)で安定化されたジルコニア(ZrO2)(セリア安定化ジルコニア:CeSZ)に10重量%のジルコン(ZrSiO4)を添加したもの
 以上のように準備された材料を用いて、まず、図2に示すように、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20を構成する部分20a、20bおよび20cについて3種類の形状の各グリーンシートを以下のように作製した。部分20aは、下から順に、部分20a2(図5参照)、部分20a1(図4(A)参照)および部分20a3(図6)が積層されて構成される。部分20bは図7に示されている。部分20cは図8に示されている。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3については、電気絶縁材料粉末と、ポリビニルブチラール系バインダーと、有機溶媒としてのエタノールとトルエンとの混合物(重量比率で混合比が1:4)とを混合した後、ドクターブレード法により固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートを作製した。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートでは、図4(A)、図5、図6に示すように、電気絶縁体21に複数の電気導電体22を形成するための貫通孔を形成した。これらの貫通孔に50重量%の銀と50重量%のパラジウムとからなるペーストを充填することにより、電気導電体22を形成するための導電性ペースト充填層を作製した。
 また、図4(A)、図5、図6に示すように、部分20a1、20a2、20a3には、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24を形成するために細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 部分20a2のグリーンシートでは、図5に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bを形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231bを形成した。この燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231bは、焼成後において消失することにより、燃料ガスを供給する燃料ガス供給路23a、23bに通じ、かつ、燃料極層11a、11bに燃料ガスを流通させる燃料ガス流通路になる。
 部分20a3のグリーンシートでは、図6に示すように、空気供給路24を形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる空気流通路形成層241a、241b、241cを形成した。この空気流通路形成層241a、241b、241cは、焼成後において消失することにより、空気を供給する空気供給路24に通じ、かつ、空気極層13a、13bに空気を流通させる空気流通路になる。
 次に、部分20bについては、電気絶縁材料粉末と、ポリビニルブチラール系バインダーと、有機溶媒としてのエタノールとトルエンとの混合物(重量比率で混合比が1:4)とを混合した後、ドクターブレード法により固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20bのグリーンシートを作製した。
 部分20bのグリーンシートでは、図3に示す空気供給路24を形成するための隙間を存在させて空気極層13a、13bのグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図7に示すように、ほぼU字形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図2と図3に示すように電気絶縁体21に燃料ガス供給路23(23a、23b)を形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20bのグリーンシートに形成した。
 そして、部分20cについては、電気絶縁材料粉末と、ポリビニルブチラール系バインダーと、有機溶媒としてのエタノールとトルエンとの混合物(重量比率で混合比が1:4)とを混合した後、ドクターブレード法により固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20cのグリーンシートを作製した。
 部分20cのグリーンシートでは、図3に示す燃料ガス供給路23a、23bを形成するための隙間を存在させて燃料極層11a、11bのグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図8に示すように、ほぼW字形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図3に示すように電気絶縁体21に空気供給路24を形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20cのグリーンシートに形成した。
 次に、図3に示す空気極層13a、13bおよび燃料極層11a、11b、ならびに図1と図2に示す固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを以下のようにして作製した。
 燃料極層11a、11bと空気極層13a、13bのそれぞれの材料粉末と、ポリビニルブチラール系バインダーと、有機溶媒としてのエタノールとトルエンとの混合物(重量比率で混合比が1:4)とを混合した後、ドクターブレード法により、燃料極層11a、11bと空気極層13a、13bのグリーンシートを作製した。
 固体電解質層12の材料粉末と、ポリビニルブチラール系バインダーと、有機溶媒としてのエタノールとトルエンとの混合物(重量比率で混合比が1:4)とを混合した後、ドクターブレード法により固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを作製した。
 具体的には図9に示す形状で燃料極層11a、11bのグリーンシートを作製し、図10に示す形状で固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを作製し、図11に示す形状で空気極層13a、13bのグリーンシートを作製した。固体電解質層12のグリーンシートには、図10に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24を形成するための細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 以上のようにして作製された、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20c、20aおよび20bのグリーンシートを順に積層し、さらにこれらに、空気極層13a、13b、固体電解質層12および燃料極層11a、11bのグリーンシートを順に嵌め合わせて積層することにより、図2に示す固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20(焼成後のセル間分離部21aの厚み:100μm)/空気極層13(焼成後の厚み:200μm)/固体電解質層12(焼成後の厚み:20μm)/燃料極層11(焼成後の厚み:200μm)からなる固体電解質形燃料電池単位モジュールを4組積層し、最上部にはガス供給路を形成していない固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20aを積層した。この積層体を1000kgf/cm2の圧力、80℃の温度にて2分間、冷間静水圧成形することにより圧着した。この圧着体を温度400~500℃の範囲内で脱脂処理を施した後、温度1300℃~1400℃の範囲内で2時間保持することにより、焼成した。このようにして実施例1の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料(平面積が85mm×85mm)を作製した。
 以上のようにして作製された実施例1の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料の上面と下面に、図2に示すように、銀からなる厚みが20μmの集電板30と40を固着した。
 (実施例2)
 まず、図1、図2、図12に示す実施形態2の固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュールを構成する各部材である燃料極層11a~11d、固体電解質層12、空気極層13a~13b、部分20a~20cの材料粉末を実施例1と同様にして準備した。
 以上のように準備された材料を用いて、まず、図2に示すように、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20を構成する部分20a、20bおよび20cについて3種類の形状の各グリーンシートを以下のように作製した。部分20aは、下から順に、部分20a2(図14参照)、部分20a1(図13(A)参照)および部分20a3(図15)が積層されて構成される。部分20bは図16に示されている。部分20cは図17に示されている。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートでは、図13(A)、図14、図15に示すように、電気絶縁体21に複数の電気導電体22を形成するための導電性ペースト充填層を実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 また、図13(A)、図14、図15に示すように、部分20a1、20a2、20a3には、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24a、24bを形成するために細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 部分20a2のグリーンシートでは、図14に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bを形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231bを形成した。この燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231bは、焼成後において消失することにより、燃料ガスを供給する燃料ガス供給路23a、23bに通じ、かつ、燃料極層11a~11dに燃料ガスを流通させる燃料ガス流通路になる。
 部分20a3のグリーンシートでは、図15に示すように、空気供給路24a、24bを形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる空気流通路形成層241a、241bを形成した。この空気流通路形成層241a、241bは、焼成後において消失することにより、空気を供給する空気供給路24a、24bに通じ、かつ、空気極層13a~13dに空気を流通させる空気流通路になる。
 次に、部分20bのグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20bのグリーンシートでは、図12に示す空気供給路24a、24bを形成するための隙間を存在させて空気極層13a~13dのグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図16に示すような形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図2と図12に示すように電気絶縁体21に燃料ガス供給路23(23a、23b)を形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20bのグリーンシートに形成した。
 そして、部分20cのグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20cのグリーンシートでは、図12に示す燃料ガス供給路23a、23bを形成するための隙間を存在させて燃料極層11a~11dのグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図17に示すような形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図12に示すように電気絶縁体21に空気供給路24a、24bを形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20cのグリーンシートに形成した。
 次に、図12に示す空気極層13a~13dおよび燃料極層11a~11d、ならびに図1と図2に示す固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 具体的には図18に示す形状で燃料極層11a~11dのグリーンシートを作製し、図19に示す形状で固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを作製し、図20に示す形状で空気極層13a~13dのグリーンシートを作製した。固体電解質層12のグリーンシートには、図19に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24a、24bを形成するための細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 以上のようにして作製された、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20c、20aおよび20bのグリーンシートを順に積層し、さらにこれらに、空気極層13a、13b、固体電解質層12および燃料極層11a、11bのグリーンシートを順に嵌め合わせて積層することにより、図2に示す固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20(焼成後のセル間分離部21aの厚み:100μm)/空気極層13(焼成後の厚み:200μm)/固体電解質層12(焼成後の厚み:20μm)/燃料極層11(焼成後の厚み:200μm)からなる固体電解質形燃料電池単位モジュールを4組積層し、最上部にはガス供給路を形成していない固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20aを積層した。この積層体を、実施例1と同様にして、冷間静水圧成形することにより圧着した。この圧着体を、実施例1と同様にして、脱脂処理を施した後、焼成した。このようにして実施例2の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料(平面積が85mm×85mm)を作製した。
 以上のようにして作製された実施例2の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料の上面と下面に、図2に示すように、銀からなる厚みが20μmの集電板30と40を固着した。
 (比較例)
 まず、図1、図2、図21に示す固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュールを構成する各部材である燃料極層11、固体電解質層12、空気極層13、部分20a~20cの材料粉末を実施例1と同様にして準備した。
 なお、図21は、図1の単位モジュールの概略的な構成を示す平面図である。図21のII-II線に沿った方向から見た断面が図1と図2に対応する。本発明の比較の形態としての固体電解質形燃料電池では、図21に示すように、ガス供給路構造部21bは、複数のセル10の各々の燃料極層11の一方側の側面に接触するように配置された、燃料ガスを供給するためのアノードガス供給路としての燃料ガス供給路23と、空気極層13の一方側の側面に接触するように配置された、空気を供給するためのカソードガス供給路としての空気供給路24とを有する。図21において、燃料ガスは、左側に配置された燃料ガス供給路23から右に向かって流れるとともに、空気は、上側に配置された空気供給路24から下に向かって流れる。このように、この比較の形態の固体電解質形燃料電池100では、燃料ガス供給路23と空気供給路24とが電池構造部の外側に配置されている。
 以上のように準備された材料を用いて、まず、図2に示すように、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20を構成する部分20a、20bおよび20cについて3種類の形状の各グリーンシートを以下のように作製した。部分20aは、下から順に、部分20a2(図23参照)、部分20a1(図22参照)および部分20a3(図24)が積層されて構成される。部分20bは図25に示されている。部分20cは図26に示されている。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20a1、20a2、20a3のグリーンシートでは、図22、図23、図24に示すように、電気絶縁体21に複数の電気導電体22を形成するための導電性ペースト充填層を実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 また、図22、図23、図24に示すように、部分20a1、20a2、20a3には、燃料ガス供給路23と空気供給路24を形成するために細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 部分20a2のグリーンシートでは、図23に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23を形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231b、231cを形成した。この燃料ガス流通路形成層231a、231b、231cは、焼成後において消失することにより、燃料ガスを供給する燃料ガス供給路23に通じ、かつ、燃料極層11に燃料ガスを流通させる燃料ガス流通路になる。
 部分20a3のグリーンシートでは、図24に示すように、空気供給路24を形成するための貫通孔に接続するように、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)からなる空気流通路形成層241a、241b、241cを形成した。この空気流通路形成層241a、241b、241cは、焼成後において消失することにより、空気を供給する空気供給路24に通じ、かつ、空気極層13に空気を流通させる空気流通路になる。
 次に、部分20bのグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20bのグリーンシートでは、図21に示す空気供給路24を形成するための隙間を存在させて空気極層13のグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図25に示すように、ほぼU字形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図2と図21に示すように電気絶縁体21に燃料ガス供給路23を形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20bのグリーンシートに形成した。
 そして、部分20cのグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 部分20cのグリーンシートでは、図21に示す燃料ガス供給路23を形成するための隙間を存在させて燃料極層11のグリーンシートを嵌め合わせすることができるように、図26に示すように、ほぼU字形状の電気絶縁体21からなるシートを作製した。また、図21に示すように電気絶縁体21に空気供給路24を形成するための細長い貫通孔を部分20cのグリーンシートに形成した。
 次に、図21に示す空気極層13および燃料極層11、ならびに図1と図2に示す固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを実施例1と同様にして作製した。
 具体的には図27に示す形状で燃料極層11のグリーンシートを作製し、図28に示す形状で固体電解質層12のグリーンシートを作製し、図29に示す形状で空気極層13のグリーンシートを作製した。固体電解質層12のグリーンシートには、図28に示すように、燃料ガス供給路23と空気供給路24を形成するための細長い貫通孔を形成した。
 以上のようにして作製された、固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20c、20aおよび20bのグリーンシートを順に積層し、さらにこれらに、空気極層13、固体電解質層12および燃料極層11のグリーンシートを順に嵌め合わせて積層することにより、図2に示す固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20(焼成後のセル間分離部21aの厚み:100μm)/空気極層13(焼成後の厚み:200μm)/固体電解質層12/燃料極層11(焼成後の厚み:200μm)からなる固体電解質形燃料電池単位モジュールを4組積層し、最上部にはガス供給路を形成していない固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体20の部分20aを積層した。この積層体を、実施例1と同様にして、冷間静水圧成形することにより圧着した。この圧着体を、実施例1と同様にして、脱脂処理を施した後、焼成した。このようにして比較例の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料(平面積が85mm×85mm)を作製した。
 以上のようにして作製された比較例の固体電解質形燃料電池の試料の上面と下面に、図2に示すように、銀からなる厚みが20μmの集電板30と40を固着した。
 得られた実施例1、2と比較例の各試料の燃料電池を800℃に昇温して、5%の水蒸気を含む水素ガスと空気とをそれぞれ、燃料ガス供給路23(23a、23b)と空気供給路24(24a、24b)とを通じて供給することにより、発電した。また、水素ガスと空気の供給量を増加させることにより、発電によって得られる電流密度を増大させた。
 各電流密度[A/cm2]について、実施例1、2と比較例の各試料の燃料電池の内部における温度を測定した。なお、温度は、垂直方向では図2に示すMの位置にて、平面的には、実施例1では図3、実施例2では図12、および、比較例では図21において、それぞれ、○で囲んだ数字が示す位置にて測定した。その測定結果を実施例1については図30、実施例2については図31、比較例については図32に示す。なお、図31~図33には最大温度と最小温度の差ΔTも示す。
 実施例1では、図30から、電流密度を0.3A/cm2まで増大させても、温度差は50℃程度に抑制されていることがわかり、発電中にセルにクラック等の破損は生じなかった。
 実施例2では、図31から、電流密度を0.3A/cm2まで増大させても、温度差は30℃程度に抑制されており、さらに電流密度を0.5A/cm2まで増大させても、温度差は50℃程度に抑制されており、発電中にセルにクラック等の破損は生じなかった。
 上記の実施例1、2に対して、比較例では、図32から、電流密度を0.3A/cm2まで増大させると、80℃程度の温度差が生じていることがわかり、発電中にセルにクラック等の破損は生じた。
 以上の結果から、実施例1では、電池構造部の内部に配置された空気供給路24(図3)から、空気がセルの内部から外部へ、すなわち両側端部に向かう方向に流れるので、発電によって発生する熱に起因して、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部21aとセルの温度が局所的に上昇するのを抑制することができ、温度差を抑制することができる。これにより、セル間分離部21aに生じる熱応力を小さくすることができるので、セル間分離部21aとセルが破壊するのを防止することができる。
 また、実施例1では、空気が、セルの内部から外部へ流れるので、発電によって発生する熱を冷却するガスとして作用する。このため、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 さらに、実施例1では、電池構造部の内部に配置された空気供給路24によって、高温部としての空気極層が空気極層13aと空気極層13bとに2分割されるため、発電によって熱が発生する箇所を分散することができるとともに、熱の放散方向を2経路にすることができる。これにより、電池構造部の内部の局所的な温度上昇をより効果的に抑制することができ、温度差をより抑制することができる。
 実施例2では、電池構造部の内部に配置された燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24a、24b(図12)とから、水素と空気とがセルの内部から外部へ、すなわち外周側端部に向かう方向に流れるので、発電によって発生する熱に起因して、セパレータの機能を果たすセル間分離部21aとセルの温度が局所的に上昇するのを抑制することができ、温度差を抑制することができる。これにより、セル間分離部21aに生じる熱応力を小さくすることができるので、セル間分離部21aとセルが破壊するのを防止することができる。
 また、実施例2では、空気が、セルの内部から外部へ流れるので、発電によって発生する熱を冷却するガスとして作用する。このため、電池構造部の内部の温度上昇を抑制することができる。
 さらに、実施例2では、電池構造部の内部に配置された燃料ガス供給路23a、23bと空気供給路24a、24bによって、高温部としての燃料極層と空気極層が、それぞれ、燃料極層11a~11dに、空気極層13a~13dに、4分割されるため、発電によって熱が発生する箇所を分散することができるとともに、熱の放散方向を4経路にすることができる。これにより、電池構造部の内部の局所的な温度上昇をさらに効果的に抑制することができ、温度差をさらに抑制することができる。
 今回開示された実施の形態と実施例はすべての点で例示であって制限的なものではないと考慮されるべきである。本発明の範囲は以上の実施の形態と実施例ではなく、請求の範囲によって示され、請求の範囲と均等の意味および範囲内でのすべての修正と変形を含むものであることが意図される。
 本発明によれば、発電によって発生するセパレータとセルの局所的な温度上昇を抑制することができ、セパレータとセルが破壊するのを防止することができるので、本発明は、セラミックス材料からなるセパレータを用いた種々のタイプの固体電解質形燃料電池に適用することができる。
 1:固体電解質形燃料電池の単位モジュール、11、11a~11d:燃料極層、12:固体電解質層、13、13a~13d:空気極層、20:固体電解質形燃料電池支持構造体、21:電気絶縁体、21a:セル間分離部、21b:ガス供給路構造部、22:電気導電体、23、23a、23b:燃料ガス供給路、24、24a、24b:空気供給路、100:固体電解質形燃料電池。

                                                                                

Claims (7)

  1.  各々がアノード、固体電解質およびカソードからなる複数のセルを含む電池構造部と、
     複数のセルの間に配置され、セラミックスを含む材料から形成されたセル間分離部と、
     前記セルにアノードガスを供給するアノードガス供給路と、前記セルにカソードガスを供給するカソードガス供給路とを有するガス供給路構造部とを備え、
     前記アノードガス供給路または前記カソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が前記電池構造部の内部に配置されている、固体電解質形燃料電池。
  2.  前記電池構造部の内部が、前記電池構造部の側面から内方に向かって前記電池構造部の幅寸法の1/3以上離れた内側にある、請求項1に記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
  3.  前記ガス供給路構造部と前記セル間分離部とが一体的に形成されている、請求項1または請求項2のいずれかに記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
  4.  前記ガス供給路構造部と前記固体電解質とが一体的に形成されている、請求項1から請求項3までのいずれか1項に記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
  5.  前記セル間分離部は、セラミックスからなり、かつ、前記複数のセルの各々に供給されるアノードガスとカソードガスを分離する電気絶縁体と、前記電気絶縁体内に形成され、かつ、前記複数のセルを相互に電気的に接続する電気導電体とから形成されている、請求項1から請求項4までのいずれか1項に記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
  6.  前記アノードガス供給路または前記カソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が、一方向に延在する開口を含む、請求項1から請求項5までのいずれか1項に記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
  7.  前記アノードガス供給路または前記カソードガス供給路の少なくともいずれか一方が、一方向に間隔をあけて配置された複数の開口を含む、請求項1から請求項5までのいずれか1項に記載の固体電解質形燃料電池。
