Description

圧電部品
 本発明は、高信頼性および高精度な周波数特性が得られる圧電部品に関するものである。
 マイクロコンピュータ等のクロックパルス発振器用の小型共振子として、圧電素子を利用した圧電共振子が多用されている。例えば、図7に示すように、支持基板61と、該支持基板61上に両端が導電性接合材62で固定された圧電素子63とを備え、支持基板61の上面に設けられた電極64および下面に設けられた電極65によって容量が形成され容量素子とされた圧電部品(圧電共振子)が知られている(特許文献1を参照)。

 上記の圧電素子を支持基板上に搭載した圧電部品は、より小型化が求められている。しかし、圧電素子における対向する振動電極によって形成され、閉じ込められている振動が、小型化によって近接した両端の導電性接合材62を介して外部に向かって漏れて、振動エネルギーが低減し、振動特性が低下するおそれがある。
 本発明は上記の事情に鑑みてなされたもので、振動の漏れが抑制された振動特性に優れた圧電部品を提供することを目的とする。
 本発明の圧電部品は、支持基板と、該支持基板上に搭載された圧電素子とを含み、該圧電素子は、一方主面および他方主面に互いに対向する領域を有するように電極を備え、かつ該電極が対向する領域を除く前記一方主面および前記他方主面のうちの少なくとも一方に幅方向に延びる凹み領域を備えており、該凹み領域における前記電極に近い側の前記幅方向に延びる角部の少なくとも一部が曲面になっていることを特徴とする。
 本発明によれば、厚みが薄くなっている凹み領域では振動波の伝搬が抑制されるため、圧電素子の両端への振動の漏れが抑制される。さらに、凹み領域において電極に近い側の幅方向に延びる角部の少なくとも一部が曲面になっていることで、振動の反射によるリップルの発生を抑制することができる。したがって、振動特性に優れた圧電部品を実現できる。

 本発明の圧電部品の実施の形態の例について図面を参照して詳細に説明する。
 図1(a)は本発明の圧電部品の実施の形態の一例を示す一部省略(蓋体省略)概略平面図であり、図1(b)は図1(a)に示すA-A線で切断した概略断面図、図1(c)は図1(a)に示す圧電部品の要部の拡大斜視図である。
 図1に示す例の圧電部品は、支持基板1と、支持基板1上に搭載された圧電素子2とを含み、圧電素子2は、一方主面および他方主面に互いに対向する領域を有するように電極(振動電極22、23)を備え、かつ電極(振動電極22、23)が対向する領域を除く一方主面および他方主面のうちの少なくとも一方に幅方向に延びる凹み領域24が設けられ、凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22、23)に近い側の幅方向に延びる角部の少なくとも一部が曲面になっている。
 支持基板1は、例えば、長さが2.5mm~7.5mm、幅が1.0mm~3.0mm、厚みが0.1mm~1mmの長方形状の平板として形成された支持基板本体11を含んでいる。この支持基板本体11としては、アルミナやチタン酸バリウム等のセラミック材料、及びガラスエポキシ等の樹脂系材料を用いることができる。
 支持基板1を構成する支持基板本体11の下面には、一対の信号端子121、122およびグランド端子13が設けられていて、支持基板本体11の上面から側面にかけて、一対の信号端子121、122と電気的に接続されるように配線導体141、142が設けられている。これらは、例えば金,銀,銅,アルミニウム、タングステン等の金属粉末を含む導電性ペーストを印刷し、焼結させてなるものである。また、必要に応じてNi/Au、Ni/Sn等のめっきを形成したものでもよい。
 圧電素子2は、圧電体21と、圧電体21の両主面にそれぞれ設けられた電極(振動電極22、23)とを備えるものである。
 この圧電素子2は支持基板1の上に搭載されている。具体的には、圧電素子2の両端部が導電性接合材3によって支持基板1上に、振動電極(22、23)間で励起される振動が振動可能なように固定されている。
 圧電素子2を構成する圧電体21は、例えば、長さが1.0mm~5.0mm、幅が0.2mm~2mm、厚みが40μm~1mmの長方形状の平板に形成されたものである。この圧電体21は、例えば、チタン酸鉛,チタン酸ジルコン酸鉛,ニオブ酸ナトリウム,ニオブ酸カリウム,ビスマス層状化合物等を基材とする圧電セラミックスを、長さ方向または厚み方向に分極処理したものや、水晶,タンタル酸リチウム,ニオブ酸リチウム等の圧電単結晶を用いる場合には適切な結晶方位を選択したもので形成することができる。
 また、圧電素子2は、圧電体21の一方主面および他方主面にそれぞれ互いに対向する領域を有するように配置された電極(振動電極22、23)を備えている。圧電体の21の上側の主面に設けられた振動電極22は長手方向の一方の端部から他方の端部側に向けて延びるように設けられ、圧電体の21の下側の主面に設けられた振動電極23は長手方向の他方の端部から一方の端部側に向けて延びるように設けられ、それぞれ互いに対向する領域を有している。この振動電極22、23は、例えば金,銀,銅,アルミニウム等の金属を用いることができ、それぞれ圧電体21の表面に例えば0.1μm~3μmの厚みに被着される。そして、導電性接合材3を介して圧電素子2の振動電極22が配線導体141と電気的に接続されているとともに、導電性接合材3を介して圧電素子2の振動電極23が配線導体142と電気的に接続されている。
 導電性接合材3は、支持基板1の上面と圧電素子2の下面との間に所定の空間(間隙)を確保する機能も有している。このような導電性接合材3としては、例えばはんだや導電性接着剤等が用いられ、はんだであれば、例えば銅,錫,銀からなる鉛を含まない材料等を用いることができ、導電性接着剤であれば、銀,銅,ニッケル等の導電性粒子を75~95質量%含有したエポキシ系の導電性樹脂またはシリコーン系の樹脂を用いることができる。
 このような圧電素子2は、両端部から振動電極22および振動電極23間に電圧を印加したとき、振動電極22と振動電極23とが対向する領域において、特定の周波数で厚み縦振動もしくは厚みすべり振動の圧電振動を発生させるようになっているものである。また、対向する電極の重さの為に振動の閉じ込めが起こるようになっているものである。
 なお、支持基板1の上には圧電素子2を覆うように蓋体4が設けられている。この蓋体4は、支持基板1の上面の周縁部に接着剤などで接合されていて、これにより、支持基板1とともに形成した空間に収容されている圧電素子2を外部からの物理的な影響や化学的な影響から保護する機能と、支持基板1とともに形成した空間内への水等の異物の浸入を防ぐための気密封止機能を有している。蓋体4の材料として、例えば、SUSなどの金属、アルミナなどのセラミックス,樹脂,ガラス等を用いることができる。また、エポキシ樹脂等の絶縁性樹脂材料に無機フィラーを25~80質量%の割合で含有させて支持基板1との熱膨張係数の差を小さくするようにしたものでもよい。
 そして、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)が対向する領域を除く一方主面および他方主面のうちの少なくとも一方に幅方向に延びる凹み領域24が設けられている。なお、図では、凹み領域24が当該凹み領域24と同一の主面に設けられた電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)とは間隔をおいて設けられている。
 この凹み領域24としては、例えば図1に示すように、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)とは間隔をおいて端面までわたる凹み形状、言い換えると、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)とは間隔をおいて段差が設けられた形状が挙げられる。凹み領域24の深さとしては、例えば0.01mm以上で圧電体21の厚みの50%以下までの深さであるのが、圧電素子2の強度を維持しつつ後述する効果を発現する点でよい。
 また、幅方向に延びるとは、圧電素子2(圧電体21)の幅方向の距離の少なくとも半分以上まで延びて形成されていることを意味し、特に幅方向の全域にわたって形成されているのが好ましい。
 このような凹み領域24を有することで、振動エネルギーの閉じ込めが効果的に発現し、凹み領域24の外側(端面側)への振動波の伝搬が抑制されるため、更なる小型化によって振動電極22、23が設けられていない領域の端部との間隔が小さくなって端部に振動が伝達しやすくなる場合でも、圧電素子2の端部への振動の漏れが抑制される。したがって、振動エネルギーの低下が抑制され、振動特性に優れた更なる小型化が可能な圧電部品を実現できる。
 そして、凹み領域24における少なくとも電極(振動電極22、23)に近い側の幅方向に延びる角部241の少なくとも一部が曲面242(R面)になっている。
 ここで、少なくとも一部とは、角部241の幅方向(圧電素子2の幅方向)の距離の少なくとも3分の1以上の領域であることを意味し、特に半分以上の領域であるのが好ましい。また、電極(振動電極22、23)に近い側の角部241とは、凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22、23)に近い側であって開口部側の角部241および底面側の角部241の両方のことを意味するが、開口部側の方が振動しやすく曲面242とすることによる効果が高いことから、曲面242は開口部側の角部241に設けられるのがよい。
 なお、開口部側の角部241の曲面を縦断面(圧電素子2の長手方向に沿った断面)で見たときの曲率半径は例えば0.005~0.05mm、底面側の角部241の曲面を縦断面(圧電素子2の長手方向に沿った断面)で見たときの曲率半径は例えば0.005~0.5mmに設定される。
 凹み領域24において内側(電極側)に向かう反射波が発生するが、凹み領域24における少なくとも電極(振動電極22、23)に近い側の幅方向に延びる角部241の少なくとも一部が曲面242になっていることで、反射面の角度が厚み方向で変化することにより、反射波が分散されてダンピングされるため、角部241による振動の反射によるリップル発生を抑制することができる。したがって、リップルの発生による振動の特性低下(共振特性低下)を抑制することができる。
 このような効果は、凹み領域24の厚みの薄くなっている部位が、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)が対向する領域と導電性接合材3との間にあれば得られる。
 ここで、一方主面のみに凹み領域24が設けられていても効果はあるが、圧電素子2(圧電体21)の一方主面および他方主面の両主面に凹み領域24が設けられていることで、両主面において凹み領域24の外側(端面側)への振動波の伝搬が抑制されるため、圧電素子2の両端部への振動の漏れが抑制される。そして、それぞれの凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)に近い側の幅方向に延びる角部241の少なくとも一部が曲面になっていることで、両主面において振動の反射によるリップルの発生を抑制することができる。したがって、さらに振動特性に優れた圧電部品を実現できる。
 また、凹み領域24としては、図2に示すように溝状であるのが好ましく、これにより、圧電素子2の両端部での厚みが確保できて圧電素子2の保持強度(接合強度)を従来通りに維持できる。
 なお、図3(a)に示すように、幅方向に延びる凹み領域24が二つ設けられ、それぞれの凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)に近い側の角部241が曲面になっていてもよい。また、図3(b)に示すように、幅方向に延びる凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)に近い側の角部241の一部が曲面になっていてもよい。
 さらに、図3(c)に示すように、溝状の凹み領域24が圧電素子2の幅方向の全域にわたって設けられていて、この凹み領域24における電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)に近い側の角部241の全域が曲面になっていてもよい。曲面242が角部241の全域にわたって設けられていることで、より振動の反射を抑制し、更にリップルの発生をより抑制することができる。
 また、図4に示すように、圧電素子2(圧電体21)の一方主面および他方主面の両主面に凹み領域24が設けられている場合に、一方主面に設けられた凹み領域24の幅方向に延びる少なくとも電極側の角部241および他方主面に設けられた凹み領域24の幅方向に延びる少なくとも電極側の角部241の両主面のそれぞれの少なくとも一部にが曲面242になっているのが好ましい。図では、後述するように電極側および反対側の全ての角部241が曲面242になっている。一方主面および他方主面の両主面に設けられた凹み領域24の幅方向に延びる角部241がそれぞれ曲面242になっていることで、両主面において振動の反射を抑制してリップルの発生を抑制することができる。
 また、図4に示すように、一方主面および他方主面に垂直な縦断面(圧電素子2の長手方向に沿った断面)で、一方主面に設けられた凹み領域24の曲面と他方主面に設けられた凹み領域24の曲面とを見たとき、それぞれの曲線の曲率半径は異なっているのが好ましく、これにより、それぞれの曲面の間における反射によって発生する可能性のあるリップルの周波数を異なるものにして分散させることができ、リップルの大きさを小さくすることができる。なお、それぞれの曲率半径の差は0.01mm以上であるのが効果的である。
 また、図4および図5に示すように、凹み領域24における凹み領域24と同じ主面側に配置された電極(振動電極22、23)に近いほうの角部および遠いほうの角部のそれぞれに曲面が設けられているのが好ましく、これによりさらに振動の反射が抑制され、効果的にリップルの発生を抑制することができる。
 そして、図5に示すように、一方主面および前記他方主面に垂直な縦断面(圧電素子2の長手方向に沿った断面)で、凹み領域24における凹み領域24と同じ主面側に配置された電極(振動電極22、23)に近いほうの曲面242と遠いほうの曲面242とを見たとき、それぞれの曲線の曲率半径が異なっているのが好ましく、これにより、それぞれの曲面の間における反射によって発生する可能性のあるリップルの周波数を異なるものにして分散させることができ、リップルの大きさを小さくすることができる。なお、それぞれの曲率半径の差は0.01mm以上であるのが効果的である。また、近いほうの曲面242と遠いほうの曲面242のどちらの曲率半径が大きくてもよい。
 図1乃至図5に示す例は、凹み領域24が当該凹み領域24と同一の主面に設けられた電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)とは間隔をおいて設けられている構成のものであるが、これらの例に限定されず、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)が対向する領域を除いた領域に設けられていればよい。
 具体的には、図6に示すように、電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)対向する領域を除く電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)が設けられた領域に凹み領域24があってもよい。特に、図6に示すようにそれぞれの主面の両方の端部側(電極が設けられている一方の端部側および電極が設けられていない他方の端部側)に凹み領域24があることによって、振動の漏れを抑制する効果が高くなる。
 さらに、図6では、凹み領域24がそれぞれの主面に平面視で重なる位置(長手方向に対して同じ位置)に設けられているが、圧電素子2の強度維持のためにずらして設けられていてもよい。
 ただし、図1乃至図5に示す例のように、凹み領域24が当該凹み領域24と同一の主面に設けられた電極(振動電極22または振動電極23)とは間隔をおいて設けられている構成のほうが、電極形成後に凹み領域24を形成できるとともに、凹み領域24の内面や角部における電極厚みのむらなどを考慮しなくてもよいという効果がある。
 次に、本実施の形態の圧電部品1の製造方法について説明する。
 まず、支持基板1を作製するための多数個取り基板を作製する。例えば、原料粉末を水や分散剤と共にボールミルを用いて混合した後に、バインダ,溶剤,可塑剤等を加えてグリーンシートとする。これを例えば900℃~1600℃のピーク温度で焼成する。この基板に、金,銀,銅,アルミニウム,タングステン等の金属粉末を含む導電性ペーストを印刷・焼付けを行う。
 次に、圧電素子2を構成する圧電体21は、例えば、原料粉末を水や分散剤と共にボールミルを用いて混合した後に、バインダ、可塑剤等を加え、乾燥、整粒した。このようにして得られた原料をプレス成型後、焼成し、圧電磁器を得る。ここで、圧電素子2の凹み領域24およびR面242は、レーザー加工またはサンドブラスト加工を用いたり、積層構造として表面側に配置する層に孔を設けたりすることで、形成することができる。
得られた圧電磁器の端面に電極を形成し、例えば25℃~300℃の温度にて厚み方向に例えば0.4kV/mm~6kV/mmの電圧をかけて分極処理を行う。
 圧電体21の上下面に形成される振動電極22および振動電極23は、得られた圧電磁器に、真空蒸着法,PVD法,スパッタリング法等を用いて圧電体21の上下面に金属膜を被着させ、厚みが1μm~10μm程度のフォトレジスト膜をそれぞれの金属膜上にスクリーン印刷等を用いて形成した後に、フォトエッチングによってパターニングすることによって、形成することができる。パターンニングされた圧電磁器を所定のサイズにダイシング等でカットすることにより圧電素子2が作製される。
 そして、導電性接合材3を用いて、圧電素子2を多数個取り基板の上に搭載し、固定する。導電性接合材3が金属粉末を樹脂中に分散させてなる導電性接着剤の場合は、この導電性接着剤をディスペンサ等を用いて配線導体141、142の上に塗布しておいて、圧電素子2を載せ、加熱または紫外線照射により導電性接着剤の樹脂を硬化させればよい。
 そして、圧電素子2を覆うようにして、蓋体4の開口周縁面を支持基板1の上面の周縁部に接合する。蓋体4としては複数の凹部有する多数個取りの集合蓋体シートを用いて、凹部が圧電素子2を覆うようにして集合蓋体シートを多数個取り基板の上に乗せ、蓋体4の開口周縁面となる集合蓋体シートの凸部を支持基板1の上面の周縁部に接合する。例えば、準備しておいた蓋体4の開口周縁面となる集合蓋体シートの凸部に熱硬化性の絶縁性接着剤を塗布し、蓋体4を支持基板1の上面に載せる。しかる後に、蓋体4または支持基板1を加熱することにより絶縁性接着剤を100~150℃に温度上昇させて硬化させ、蓋体4を支持基板1の上面に接合する。
 最後に、各圧電部品(個片)の境界にそってダイシング等で切断する。
 以上の方法により、本発明の圧電部品が作製される。
 以上のような方法によれば、振動エネルギーの漏れや振動の反射が抑制されることによって特性劣化の少ない圧電部品を得ることができ、更なる小型化でも高性能の圧電部品を生産性よく製造することが可能となる。

Claims (8)

  1.  支持基板と、該支持基板上に搭載された圧電素子とを含み、該圧電素子は、一方主面および他方主面に互いに対向する領域を有するように電極を備え、かつ該電極が対向する領域を除く前記一方主面および前記他方主面のうちの少なくとも一方に幅方向に延びる凹み領域を備えており、該凹み領域における前記電極に近い側の前記幅方向に延びる角部の少なくとも一部が曲面になっていることを特徴とする圧電部品。
  2.  前記凹み領域は、当該凹み領域と同一の主面に設けられた前記電極とは間隔をおいて設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の圧電部品。
  3.  前記一方主面および前記他方主面の両主面に前記凹み領域が設けられており、それぞれの該凹み領域における前記電極に近い側の前記幅方向に延びる前記角部の少なくとも一部が曲面になっていることを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の圧電部品。
  4.  前記一方主面および前記他方主面に垂直な縦断面で、前記一方主面に設けられた前記凹み領域の曲面と前記他方主面に設けられた前記凹み領域の曲面とを見たとき、それぞれの曲線の曲率半径が異なっていることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の圧電部品。
  5.  前記曲面が前記幅方向に延びる前記角部の全域にわたって設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のうちのいずれかに記載の圧電部品。
  6.  前記凹み領域は溝状であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のうちのいずれかに記載の圧電部品。
  7.  前記凹み領域における該凹み領域と同じ主面側に配置された前記電極に近い側の角部および遠い側の角部のそれぞれに曲面が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の圧電部品。
  8.  前記一方主面および前記他方主面に垂直な縦断面で、前記凹み領域における該凹み領域と同じ主面側に配置された前記電極に近い側の曲面と遠い側の曲面とを見たとき、それぞれの曲線の曲率半径が異なっていることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の圧電部品。
