Description
본 발명은 섬광체(scintillator), 이의 제조 방법 및 응용에 관한 것이다.
섬광체(scintillator)는 X선 및 감마선, 전자선, 중성자선 등의 이온화 방사선을 가시광선 파장영역의 빛으로 변환해 주는 방사선 센서로서, 각종 의료방사선 영상시스템, 방사선검출기, 그리고 공업용 방사선 센서 등의 다양한 분야에서 이용되고 있다. 방사선 조사시 섬광(scintillation) 현상에 따라 발생한 빛을 광전자증배관이나 광다이오드 등의 적절한 수광소자를 이용하여 측정함으로써 방사선 정보를 획득할 수 있으며, 획득한 정보는 일련의 처리과정을 통하여 방사선 영상으로 획득될 수 있다.
1948년 Hofstadter에 의해 NaI:Tl 물질이 등장한 이래, 방사선 의학, 핵물리학, 고에너지 물리학 등의 발전에 따라, 현재까지 여러 가지 종류의 섬광체가 개발되어 왔다. NaI:Tl을 시초로 CsI, NaI, CsI:Tl 등의 알카리 할라이드, BGO(Bi4Ge3O12), PbWO4, LSO(Lu2SiO5:Ce) 등의 섬광체가 연구되어 왔다. 그러나, CsI 및 NaI 계열의 할라이드 섬광체는 CS, Na, I의 원자번호가 각각 55, 11, 53으로 낮아서, X선 및 감마선에 대한 검출 효율이 상대적으로 낮은 단점을 갖는다.
BGO 및 PbWO4 섬광체는 할라이드 계열 섬광체들의 광출력(65,000 phs/MeV, CsI:Tl)(38,000 phs/MeV, NaI:Tl)에 비해 매우 낮은 광출력(8,200 phs/MeV, BGO)(200 phs/MeV, PbWO4)을 갖는 단점이 있다. Lu 기반 섬광체는 재료 가격이 높으며, 용융온도가 2,050℃로 매우 높고, 결정구조가 섬광체 단결정 육성에 매우 어려운 단점이 있을 뿐만 아니라, Lu 내에 존재하는 176Lu(반감기 : 3.78×1010년, 자연존재비 : 2.59%) 이외에, 총 34개의 자연 방사성 동위원소로 인해 백그라운드가 높은 문제점이 있다.
본 발명은 방사선에 대한 검출 효율이 높고, 형광 감쇠시간이 빠른 신소재 섬광체, 이의 제조 및 응용 방법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 다른 과제는 특히 X선이나 감마선에 대한 검출 효율이 높고, 섬광 단결정을 육성하기 쉬운 결정구조를 갖는 신소재 섬광체, 이의 제조 및 응용 방법을 제공하는 것에 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제는 이상에서 언급된 과제로 제한되지 않는다. 언급되지 않은 다른 기술적 과제들은 이하의 기재로부터 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 명확하게 이해될 수 있을 것이다.
본 발명의 일 측면에 따른 섬광체는 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 및 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소를 포함하는 모체; 및 상기 모체에 도핑된 활성제를 포함한다.
본 발명의 일 실시 예로서, 상기 활성제는 세륨을 포함할 수 있다.

본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 및 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소를 포함하는 모체; 및 상기 모체에 활성제로서 도핑된 세륨을 포함한다. 본 발명자는 오랜 기간에 걸친 연구와, 수많은 실험을 통하여, 우수한 섬광 특성을 갖는 탈륨 기반의 엘파소라이트(elpasolite) 단결정 섬광체를 실제로 육성하는데 세계 최초로 성공하였다.
엘파소라이트 단결정은 3가 양이온과 1가 알칼리 양이온, 할라이드 이온을 포함하는 단결정이다. 모든 알칼리 양이온과 3가 양이온 및 할라이드 이온의 조합이 단결정으로 성장되는 것은 아니며, 특히 탈륨을 기반으로 하여 엘파소라이트 결정을 성장시켜 그 특성을 보고한 예가 전무하기 때문에, 탈륨을 기반으로 엘파소라이트 단결정을 만들어 내는 것은 매우 어렵고 고도의 기술이 필요한 과정이다. 본 발명자는 육성 온도(용융 온도) 조건과, 육성시 결정 성장 조건(앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 상관 관계) 등의 규명을 통하여, 지금까지 실제로 존재한 적이 없었던 새로운 섬광체 물질을 제조해낼 수 있었다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 화학식이 Tl2ABC6:yCe 으로 주어지는 물질을 포함한다. 본 발명의 실시 예에서, 'A'는 알칼리 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소(예를 들어, Li, Na)이고, 'B'는 3가 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소(예를 들어, Gd, La, Lu, Ce, Sc, Y)이고, 'C'는 할로겐 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소(예를 들어, Cl, Br, I)이며, y는 불순물로 도핑되어 섬광 현상을 발생하는 Ce 이온의 몰비(농도)로서, 적정 섬광량을 위하여 0 보다 크고 1 이하의 값을 가질 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 탈륨할라이드, 알칼리할라이드, 3가원소할라이드를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합하여 모체를 제조하고, 상기 모체에 세륨할라이드를 포함하는 활성체를 도핑한 후, 엘파소라이트 단결정으로 육성하는 방법으로 제조될 수 있다. 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 단결정으로 육성 시 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 복합적으로 결정 성장에 중대한 영향을 미친다. 본 발명자는 방대한 실험과 수많은 시행 착오의 결과로, 탈륨 기반의 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 단결정으로 육성하기 위해서는 결정성장부의 육성조건, 즉 용융 온도와, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 특정 범위로 설정해야 하는 것을 알아낼 수 있었다.
본 발명의 실시 예에서, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱은 0.1 ~ 0.3 ℃/hr 범위로 설정되는 것이 바람직한데, 이는 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱이 0.1 ℃/hr 미만일 경우 생산성이 나빠지고, 0.3 ℃/hr 초과 시에는 결정이 깨어지거나 결정성이 떨어져 섬광량과 형광 감쇠시간 특성이 저하되기 때문이다. 또한, 용융온도는 450~650℃ 범위로 설정하는 것이 바람직하며, 3가원소, 알칼리원소, 할라이드원소에 따라 용융온도를 적절히 설정해주어야 한다. 이러한 육성 조건 하에서, 탈륨 기반의 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정을 육성할 수 있다.
광전효과는 섬광체 물질의 원자번호의 3~5 제곱에 비례하므로, 원자번호가 높은 물질일수록 X선이나 감마선에 대한 검출효율이 급격히 증가한다. 따라서, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 원자번호가 81로 높은 탈륨을 기반으로 소정의 육성 조건 하에서 안정적으로 엘파소라이트 단결정으로 육성되므로, 방사선, 특히 X선이나 감마선에 대한 검출효율이 높고, 형광 감쇠시간이 빠른 특성을 갖는다. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 엘파소라이트 단결정 구조를 갖기 때문에, 비교적 광출력이 크고, 단사정계나 육방정계 구조에 비해 육성이 쉬우며, 특정 결정면으로 잘 깨어지지 않는 이점을 갖는다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 유효 원자번호(70)가 높아서 엑스선, 자외선, 알파선, 베타선, 중성자선 등 방사선에 대한 정보를 가시광선 파장영역의 빛으로 효율적으로 검출할 수 있으므로, 의료 영상분야에 활용 시 인체에 대한 피폭선량을 경감할 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 형광 감쇠시간이 짧기 때문에 양전자방출단층촬영장치와 같이 빠른 감쇠시간 특성을 요구하는 분야에 응용 가능하다.
그 밖에, 3가 원소를 중성자반응 단면적이 큰 리튬 및 가돌리늄으로 육성하면, X선, 감마선, 전자선, 양성자선, 기타 하전입자 이외에도, 중성자선 검출에 이용 가능하다. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 CT, PET, SPECT, 감마카메라 등 의료 방사선 영상용 신소재 섬광체로 활용 가능할 뿐만 아니라, 각종 산업체의 방사선 센서로서의 활용 또한 가능하다.
도 1a는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체의 제조 방법을 설명하기 위한 도면이다. 도 1a를 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체의 제조 방법은 탈륨, 알칼리원소, 3가원소, 할로겐원소를 포함하는 모체를 제조하는 단계(S11), 상기 모체에 세륨을 포함하는 활성제를 도핑하는 단계(S12), 및 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 단결정으로 육성하는 단계(S13)를 포함한다.
단계 S11의 일 실시 예로서, 탈륨할라이드, 알칼리원소할라이드, 3가원소할라이드를 2:1:1의 몰비로 혼합하여 모체를 제조할 수 있다. 탈륨할라이드는 예를 들어, TlCl, TlBr, TlI, 혹은 이들 중 2 이상의 혼합물일 수 있다. 서로 다른 탈륨할라이드를 혼합하여 모체를 제조하는 경우, 혼합되는 모든 탈륨할라이드의 몰비의 합이 알칼리원소할라이드(혹은 3가원소할라이드)의 2배가 되도록 하여 모체를 제조할 수 있다.
알칼리원소할라이드는 예를 들어, LiCl, NaCl, LiBr, NaBr, LiI, NaI, 혹은 이들 중 2 이상의 혼합물일 수 있다. 서로 다른 알칼리원소할라이드를 혼합하여 모체를 제조하는 경우, 혼합되는 모든 알칼리원소할라이드의 몰비의 합이 탈륨할라이드의 1/2이 되도록(혹은 3가원소할라이드와 동일하도록) 모체를 제조할 수 있다.
3가원소할라이드는 예를 들어, Gd, La, Lu, Ce, Sc, Y과 같은 3가 원소의 할라이드, 혹은 서로 다른 3가원소 할라이드의 혼합물일 수 있다. 서로 다른 3가원소할라이드를 혼합하여 모체를 제조하는 경우, 혼합되는 모든 3가원소할라이드의 몰비의 합이 탈륨할라이드의 1/2이 되도록(혹은 알카리원소할라이드와 동일하도록) 모체를 제조할 수 있다.
단계 S12의 일 실시 예로서, 모체에 도핑되는 활성제는 세륨할라이드를 포함할 수 있다. 세륨 할라이드는 예를 들어, CeCl3, CeBr3, CeI3, 혹은 이들 중 2 이상의 혼합물일 수 있다. 이때, 모체에 첨가되는 활성제의 알칼리원소 또는 3가원소에 대한 몰비는 세륨을 기준으로 0 초과 1 이하일 수 있다(탈륨의 몰비에 대하여는 0 초과 0.5 이하). 한편, 단계 S12는 단계 S11과 동시적으로 수행될 수도 있다.
단계 S13의 일 실시 예로서, 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 석영 앰플에 진공 상태로 밀봉한 후, 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성할 수 있다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공할 수 있다. 브리지만법으로 단결정을 육성할 때, 단결정 육성 지점의 온도와 온도기울기, 시료의 하강 속도는 매우 중요하며, 단결정 육성 지점의 온도는 시료의 용융온도와 밀접한 관계가 있다. 브리지만 전기로에서 앰플의 하강 속도와, 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.1 ~ 0.3℃/hr 로 하는 것이 우수한 특성을 갖는 탈륨 기반의 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정을 육성하는데 유효하다는 것을 실험을 통해 확인하였다.
도 1b는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체의 단결정 육성 조건을 설명하기 위한 브리지만 전기로의 개략도이다. 도 1b를 참조하면, 상부 히터는 하부 히터의 상부 측에 배치되어, 섬광체 물질에 따라 결정되는 용융온도(용융점)보다 높은 제1 온도로 앰플을 가열한다. 하부 히터는 상부 히터의 하부 측에 배치되어, 섬광체 물질의 용융온도보다 낮은 제2 온도로 앰플을 가열한다.
상부 히터와 하부 히터의 가열 온도는 결정 성장 위치에서의 온도가 섬광체 물질의 용융온도가 되도록, 그리고 앰플의 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱이 0.1 ~ 0.3℃/hr 가 되도록, 설정될 수 있다. 이때, 섬광체의 결정 성장 위치는 상부 히터와 하부 히터 사이의 위치에 형성될 수 있다. 본 발명의 실시 예에서, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 결정 성장 위치에서의 위치 변화에 대한 온도의 변화량의 비율을 측정한 값을 의미할 수 있다.
생산성 측면에서, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.1 mm/hr 이상으로 설정되는 것이 바람직하다. 이때, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 앰플 하강 속도에 따라 다르지만, 앰플의 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱이 0.1 ~ 0.3℃/hr 가 되도록, 30 ℃/cm 이하 범위로 설정될 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시 예에서, 용융온도는 450~650℃ 일 수 있다. 이는 일반적으로 사용되는 섬광체들에 비하여 낮은 온도로서, 본 발명의 실시 예에 의하면, 450~650℃의 낮은 온도에서 단결정을 육성할 수 있어, 섬광체 제작시 단가를 크게 낮출 수 있다.
< 실시 예 1 >
모체로서 TlCl, LiCl, GdCl3 시료를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합한 후, 활성제로서 CeCl3를 0.1(10%)의 몰비로 도핑하였으며, 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 석영 앰플에서 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2LiGdCl6:0.1Ce 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2LiGdCl6:Ce의 용융온도는 540℃로 하였다.
육성된 단결정의 섬광특성을 조사하기 위하여 일정한 크기로 자른 후 모든 단면을 광택천(polishing cloth)(Buehler) 위에서 Al2O3(0.02 ㎛) 분말을 사용하여 연마하였다. 실온에서의 상대적인 광 출력과 형광 감쇠시간은 RbCs 광전자증배관(Electron tube Ltd. D726Uk)을 사용한 파고 분석 장치(pulse height analysis system)로 측정하였다. 광전자증배관에서 나온 신호는 증폭기(×10, ×100)를 사용하여 증폭하였으며, 400 MHz FADC(flash analog to digital converter)를 거친 후 ROOT 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다. 트리거(trigger)는 FPGA(field programmable gate array) 칩을 사용하였다. 섬광체의 발광스펙트럼은 분광기를 사용하여 250 ~ 700nm 범위에서 측정하였다.
도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce)의 발광스펙트럼을 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 2를 참조하면, Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 350~450nm, 피이크 파장은 375 nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치되는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce)의 형광 감쇠시간을 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 3의 그래프는 Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce 섬광체에 대하여 표준 감마선원인 137Cs의 662 keV 감마선에 대한 형광 감쇠시간 특성을 평가한 것이다. 형광 감쇠시간은 세 개의 시간성분으로 구성되었으며, 빠른 시간성분은 34ns로서 전체 형광의 대부분(약 81%)을 차지하였고, 중간 시간성분은 191ns로서 전체 형광의 약 10%를 차지하였으며, 느린 시간성분은 1.2㎲로서 전체의 약 9%를 차지하였다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체의 전체 광 출력은 약 40,000 phs/MeV로서, PbWO4 섬광체의 전체 광 출력(200 phs/MeV) 및 BGO(Bi12GeO20) 섬광체의 전체 광 출력(8,200 phs/MeV)에 비하여 매우 크게 나타났으며, 할라이드 섬광체의 전체 광 출력(38,000 phs/MeV, NaI:Tl) 및 LSO(Lu2SiO5:Ce)의 전체 광 출력(25,000 phs/MeV) 보다도 높은 값으로 나타났다. 특히 양전자단층촬영장치용 섬광센서는 쌍소멸에 의해 발생하는 2개의 감마선을 동시 측정하여야 하므로 빠른 시간특성이 매우 중요한데, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 형광 감쇠시간이 빨라 양전자방출단층촬영에 활용되기에 적합하다.
도 4는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce)의 세슘-137 감마선에 대한 파고스펙트럼을 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 4는 Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce 섬광체에 대하여 상온에서 세슘-137 662 keV 감마선에 대해 파고 스펙트럼을 측정한 결과를 보여준다. 도 4의 파고스펙트럼 상에서 피크는 표준 감마선원인 세슘-137에서 방출된 662 keV 감마선의 광전 피크이고, 이 피크의 중심값에 대한 반치폭(half-width)의 비를 에너지 분해능으로 정의한다. 도 4를 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce)의 에너지 분해능은 4.6%로 측정되었으며, 이는 루테슘 기반 섬광체(LSO)(10% 에너지 분해능, Lu2SiO5:Ce) 및 비스무스 기반 섬광체(BGO)(10.8% 에너지 분해능, Bi12GeO20)보다 우수할 뿐 아니라, 할라이드 섬광체(6.5% 에너지 분해능, CsI:Tl)(6.6% 에너지 분해능, NaI:Tl) 보다도 우수한 결과이다.
도 5는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce)의 엑스선 회절분석 결과이다. 엑스선 회절검사(X-Ray Diffraction, XRD)는 결정 또는 분말형태의 물질에서 회절되는 엑스선의 정보를 분석하여, 물질의 구성성분, 결정구조 등을 해석할 수 있는 검사법으로, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 기존의 결정 데이터 베이스에 존재하지 않는 새로운 결정 구조의 물질임을 확인하였다. 아래의 표 1은 현재 양전자방출단층촬영기에 사용되고 있는 주요 섬광체들(비교예1~4)과, 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 Tl2LiGdCl6:10%Ce 섬광체(TLGC)의 특성을 비교한 것이다.

위의 표 1에서, 비교예1 내지 비교예 4의 화학식은 각각 Lu2SiO5:Ce(LSO), Lu2(1-x)Y2XSiO5:Ce(LYSO), Gd2SiO5:Ce(GSO), Bi12GeO20(BGO)이다. BGO(비교예4)는 광출력이 낮고, 형광감쇠시간이 긴 단점이 있다. 반면, Lu 기반 섬광체들(비교예1,2)은 밀도와 유효원자번호가 높고 형광감시시간의 빠른 장점은 있지만, 녹는점이 높아서 단결정 육성이 어렵고, 자연방사성동위원소에 의한 백그라운드 방사선이 존재하는 단점이 있다. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(TLGC)는 현재 사용하고 있는 양전자방출단층촬영장치에 사용되는 섬광체에 비해 광출력이 상대적으로 크고, 형광 감쇠시간 특성이 빠르며, 특히 저온에서 저렴하게 섬광체단결정을 만들 수 있는 장점이 있다.
< 실시 예 2 >
TlCl, LiCl, GdCl3 시료를 혼합한 모체에, 활성제로서 CeCl3를 0.01(1%)의 몰비로 도핑한 것을 제외하고, 다른 조건을 실시 예 1과 동일하게 하여 Tl2LiGdCl6:0.01Ce 섬광체를 제조하였다.
도 6은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdCl6:1%Ce)의 발광스펙트럼을 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 6을 참조하면, Tl2LiGdCl6:1%Ce 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 350~450nm, 피이크 파장은 375 nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치되는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

도 7은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiLuCl6:1%Ce)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 7을 참조하면, Tl2LiLuCl6:1%Ce 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 375~650nm, 피이크 파장은 428nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.
< 실시 예 4 >
모체로서 TlCl, LiCl, YCl3 시료를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합한 후, 활성제로서 CeCl3를 0.01(1%)의 몰비로 도핑하였으며, 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 석영 앰플에서 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2LiYCl6:1%Ce 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2LiYCl6:0.01Ce 섬광체의 용융온도는 540℃로 하였다.
도 8은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiYCl6:1%Ce)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 8을 참조하면, Tl2LiYCl6:1%Ce 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 375~650nm, 피이크 파장은 430nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.

모체로서 TlCl, LiCl, LaCl3 시료를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합한 후, 활성제로서 CeCl3를 0.05(5%)의 몰비로 도핑하였으며, 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 석영 앰플에서 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2LiLaCl6:5%Ce 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2LiLaCl6:0.05Ce 섬광체의 용융온도는 610℃로 하였다.

< 실시 예 8 >
모체로서 TlCl, LiCl, ScCl3 시료를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합한 후 석영 앰플에 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2LiScCl6 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2LiScCl6 섬광체의 용융온도는 650℃로 하였다.
도 12는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiScCl6)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 12를 참조하면, Tl2LiScCl6 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 350~600nm, 피이크 파장은 410nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.
< 실시 예 9 >
모체로서 TlBr, LiBr, GdBr3를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합하고, CeBr3를 0.1(10%)의 몰비로 도핑하였으며, 모체와 활성제의 혼합물을 석영 앰플에서 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2LiGdBr6:10%Ce 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2LiGdBr6:10%Ce 섬광체의 용융온도는 450℃로 하였다.
도 13은 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiGdBr6:10%Ce)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 13을 참조하면, Tl2LiGdBr6:10%Ce 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 380~500nm, 피이크 파장은 424nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.
< 실시 예 10 >

도 14는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2LiCeCl6)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 14를 참조하면, Tl2LiCeCl6 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 360~440nm, 피이크 파장은 383nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.
< 실시 예 11 >
모체로서 TlCl, NaCl, CeCl3를 몰비 2:1:1로 혼합한 후 석영 앰플에 대략 10-5torr의 진공 상태로 밀봉하였다. 성장시킬 단결정의 씨결정(seed crystal)이 용이하게 생성되도록, 시료가 든 석영 앰플의 한쪽 끝을 뾰족하게 가공하였다. 밀봉된 앰플을 브리지만 전기로에서 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정으로 육성하여 Tl2NaCeCl6 섬광체를 제조하였다. 이때, 앰플 하강 속도는 0.2 mm/hr, 결정성장부 온도 기울기는 10 ℃/cm 로 하여, 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.2 ℃/hr 로 하였으며, Tl2NaCeCl6 섬광체의 용융온도는 500℃로 하였다.
도 15는 본 발명의 일 실시 예에 따른 섬광체(Tl2NaCeCl6)의 발광스펙트럼을 분광기를 사용하여 측정한 결과를 보여주는 그래프이다. 도 15를 참조하면, Tl2NaCeCl6 섬광체의 X선에 대한 발광파장 범위는 350~450nm, 피이크 파장은 392nm로서, 광전자증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 일치된다.
본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 탈륨 기반의 엘파소라이트 섬광체 단결정은 탈륨(Z=81)의 원자번호가 높아 엑스선 및 감마선에 대한 검출이 높고, 초크랄스키법, 브리지만법 등으로 단결정을 육성하기 쉬운 결정구조(엘파소라이트 결정구조)를 가지며, 발광파장범위가 광전증배관의 양자효율 특성과 잘 매칭될 뿐만 아니라, 형광 감쇠시간이 빠른 특성을 가지므로 방사선 영상을 획득하는 전산화단층촬영시스템(Computed Tomography: CT), 양전자방출단층촬영시스템(Positron Emission Tomography; PET), 감마카메라, 단일광자방출단층촬영시스템(Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography; SPECT), 또는 앵거(Anger) 카메라 등의 방사선 영상장치에 사용될 수 있다.
또한, 모체에 중성자흡수단면적이 큰 리튬(Li) 및 가돌리늄(Gd)을 포함하는 섬광체를 제조하여, 중성자선 검출에 응용될 수 있으며, 자외선, 전자선, 알파입자, 베타입자 등 여러 가지 방사선량 측정을 위한 방사선 센서로 사용할 수 있다. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체는 방사선 영상장치나 방사선 센서 등의 증감지를 제조하는데 활용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 섬광체와 접착제를 혼합하여 필름에 도포하여 증감지를 제조할 수 있다.
이상의 실시 예들은 본 발명의 이해를 돕기 위하여 제시된 것으로, 본 발명의 범위를 제한하지 않으며, 이로부터 다양한 변형 가능한 실시 예들도 본 발명의 범위에 속하는 것임을 이해하여야 한다. 본 발명의 기술적 보호범위는 특허청구범위의 기술적 사상에 의해 정해져야 할 것이며, 본 발명의 기술적 보호범위는 특허청구범위의 문언적 기재 그 자체로 한정되는 것이 아니라 실질적으로는 기술적 가치가 균등한 범주의 발명에 대하여까지 미치는 것임을 이해하여야 한다.
Claims (20)
- 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 및 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소를 포함하는 모체; 및상기 모체에 도핑된 활성제를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 활성제는 세륨을 포함하는 섬광체.
- 모체로서, 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 및 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 알칼리 원소는, Li 및 Na 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 3가 원소는, Gd, La, Lu, Ce, Sc, Y 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 제1 항에 있어서,상기 할로겐 원소는, Cl, Br, 및 I 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 화학식이 Tl2ABC6:yCe 인 섬광체로서,상기 화학식에서, A는 알칼리 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소이고, B는 3가 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소이고, C는 할로겐 원소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소이며, y는 0보다 크고 1 이하인 섬광체.
- 제7 항에 있어서,A는 Li, 및 Na 을 포함하는 알칼리 원소의 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소인 섬광체.
- 제7 항에 있어서,B는 Gd, La, Lu, 및 Ce 을 포함하는 3가 원소의 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소인 섬광체.
- 제7 항에 있어서,B는 Sc, 및 Y 을 포함하는 3가 원소의 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소인 섬광체.
- 제7 항에 있어서,C는 Cl, Br, 및 I 를 포함하는 할로겐 원소의 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 1종의 원소인 섬광체.
- 탈륨할라이드, 알칼리할라이드, 3가원소할라이드를 모체로 활성제가 도핑된 섬광체.
- 제12 항에 있어서,상기 활성제는 세륨할라이드를 포함하는 섬광체.
- 제7 항에 기재된 섬광체를 포함하는 방사선 영상장치.
- 필름; 및상기 필름에 도포된 섬광체를 포함하며,상기 섬광체는, 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소, 및 세륨을 포함하는 증감지.
- 탈륨, 적어도 1종의 알칼리 원소, 적어도 1종의 3가 원소, 및 적어도 1종의 할로겐 원소를 포함하는 모체를 제조하는 단계; 그리고상기 모체에 활성제를 도핑하는 단계를 포함하는 섬광체의 제조 방법.
- 제16 항에 있어서,상기 모체를 제조하는 단계는, 탈륨할라이드, 알칼리원소할라이드, 3가원소할라이드를 2:1:1의 몰비로 혼합하는 단계를 포함하는 섬광체의 제조 방법.
- 제16 항에 있어서,상기 활성제를 도핑하는 단계는, 상기 모체에 세륨할라이드를 도핑하는 단계를 포함하는 섬광체의 제조 방법.
- 제16 항에 있어서,상기 알칼리 원소는 Li 및 Na 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하고,상기 3가 원소는 Gd, La, Lu, Ce, Sc, Y 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하며,상기 할로겐 원소는 Cl, Br, 및 I 중의 적어도 하나를 포함하는 섬광체의 제조 방법.
- 제16 항에 있어서,상기 모체와 상기 활성제의 혼합물을 단결정으로 육성하는 단계를 더 포함하며,상기 혼합물을 단결정으로 육성하는 단계에서 앰플 하강 속도와 결정성장부 온도 기울기의 곱을 0.1 ~ 0.3 ℃/hr 범위로 하는 섬광체의 제조 방법.
