Description

AGENT CONVERTISSEUR DE ROUILLE
L'invention concerne un agent de traitement de la rouille, et plus précisément un agent convertisseur de rouille, ainsi que ses applications. En particulier, elle concerne cet agent de convertisseur de rouille comme additif convertisseur de rouille.
Un agent convertisseur de rouille est un composé ou un mélange de composés capables de transformer les oxydes de fer et en particulier l'hydroxyde de fer constituant essentiel de la rouille, friables et résultant de la corrosion du fer ou d'un alliage à base de fer, en un composé plus résistant, notamment à l'oxydation, et formant une barrière protectrice vis-à-vis d'une source d'agression. Les ingrédients actifs traditionnels sont l'acide tannique, le pyrogallol, l'acide oxalique, l'acide phosphorique, ainsi que leurs dérivés, et sont utilisés seuls ou en mélanges. Parmi ceux- ci, les composés les plus couramment employés sont l'acide tannique et l'acide phosphorique qui, au contact de la rouille, réagissent avec les oxydes de fer pour former le tannate de fer et le phosphate de fer FeP04, respectivement.
Du fait de leur nature acide, notamment, ces composés présentent de nombreux désavantages :
Ils ne peuvent être ajoutés que dans des formulations de revêtement acides, utilisant des résines compatibles telles que des résines acides chlorées, des résines cationiques, etc.. ; la mise en œuvre de ces résines est délicate, et en outre, le champ d'application est restreint ;
Une fois appliquée sur la rouille, un temps de séchage de la couche d'agent convertisseur de rouille de l'ordre de 1 à 3 jours doit être respecté, en particulier avant l'application d'une peinture en phase aqueuse ;
- Le traitement par de tels agents ne confère aucune protection du support métallique vis-à-vis d'une oxydation ultérieure ; à titre d'exemple, l'acide phosphorique forme une couche de phosphate de fer sur le métal traité, mais elle est trop fine et trop peu résistante pour être réellement protectrice ;
Ces ingrédients ont une couleur foncée et il n'est donc pas envisageable de les ajouter directement dans des peintures en phase aqueuse sans causer des effets non désirables, comme la déstabilisation de la formulation de peinture, son brunissement...
L'invention apporte un agent convertisseur de rouille permettant de surmonter l'ensemble des inconvénients ci-dessus.
L'agent convertisseur de rouille selon l'invention consiste en un ou plusieurs sels d'acide organique hydroxylé et/ou un ou plusieurs sels d'un dérivé d'acide organique hydroxylé, au moins l'un d'un composé passivant et d'un com posé séquestrant, et un solvant, le ou les acide organiques hydroxylés ou le ou les dérivés étant choisis parmi les acides carboxyliques hydroxylés et leurs dérivés, différents de l'acide tannique, et dont la ou les fonctions carboxyliques sont choisies parmi les fonctions carboxyliques libres, les fonctions ester, les fonctions lactone et les fonctions anhydride. Avantageusement, l'agent de l'invention comprend au moins un composé passivant, et facultativement un composé séquestrant.
Cet agent n'est que très peu acide et n'est pas coloré. I l en résulte qu'un tel agent est adapté à tout support ; en tant qu'additif, il peut aussi incorporer tout type de produit de traitement et/ou de revêtement d'un support, permettant de s'affranchir d'une étape préalable de traitement de la rouille, la transformation de la rouille et le traitement et/ou le revêtement du support étant simultanés. De plus, on a observé que l'addition d'un agent de l'invention à tout produit de traitement et/ou de revêtement n'affecte en rien les propriétés dudit agent et précisément sa capacité à transformer la rouille.
Avant de décrire l'invention plus en détail, des termes employés dans le texte sont ci-après définis.
Par acide carboxylique hydroxylé, on inclut tout composé organique comprenant au moins une fonction carboxylique libre -CQGH et au moins une fonction hydroxylé -OH, primaire, secondaire ou tertiaire. Par sel d'un acide carboxylique hydroxylé, on entend le composé résultant de la réaction entre la ou plusieurs des fonctions carboxyliques dudit acide carboxylique hydroxylé et une base, i'anion du sel étant constitué du reste d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé et le cation étant constitué par le reste de la base.
Par dérivé d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé, on comprend tout composé organique comprenant au moins une fonction carboxylique choisie parmi les fonctions ester, les fonctions lactone et les fonctions anhydride, et au moins une fonction hydroxylé -OH, primaire, secondaire ou tertiaire. Ledit dérivé peut en outre comporter une ou des fonctions carboxyliques libres. Par fonction ester, on entend une fonction - COOR dans laquelle R représente tout groupement hydrocarboné. Un tel groupement peut être un groupe alkyie, par exemple ayant de 1 à 20 atomes de carbone. Par fonction lactone, on entend une fonction R'-C(0)-OR dans laquelle R et R' forment ensemble un cycle hydroca rboné, éventuellement substitué, par exemple ayant de 3 à 20 atomes de carbone. Par fonction anhydride, on comprend une fonction R'"-CQ~Q~CO- R dans laquelle R et R' représentent indépendamment l'un de l'autre tout groupement hydrocarboné, cyclique ou non, par exemple ayant de 1 à 20 atomes de carbone. Par sel d'un dérivé d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé, on entend le composé résultant de la réaction entre la ou plusieurs des fonctions carboxyiiques dudit dérivé d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé et une base, l'anion du sel étant constitué du reste de dérivé d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé et le cation étant constitué par le reste de la base.
Un sel selon l'invention peut comprendre plusieurs anions.
Un composé passivant a pour effet de former un film protecteur sur la zone traitée, permettant de ralentir notablement la vitesse de corrosion de cette zone par rapport à ce qu'elle serait en l'absence de ce film.
Un composé séquestrant, ou agent chélatant, est un composé capable de former des liaisons avec un métal, généralement un métal de transition, et dans le cadre de l'invention, le fer sous forme ferrique Fe3+, éventuellement sous forme ferreuse Fe, afin de former un complexe stable et insoluble dans l'additif ou le produit dans lequel l'additif est présent. Ainsi complexé, le fer sera protégé de l'oxydation.
Certains composés possèdent des propriétés à la fois passivantes et séquestrantes, comme par exemple certains polyphosphates.
Ces notions sont bien connues de l'homme du métier et il est de son ressort de sélectionner un ou des composés appropriés.
Les différents composants d'un agent convertisseur de rouille de l'invention sont ci-dessous exposés en détail.

L'acide carboxylique hydroxylé ou le dérivé d'un acide carboxylique hydroxylé du sel de l'invention comprend par définition au moins une fonction carboxylique. Elle peut être sous forme libre -COOH, sous forme ester, sous forme lactone ou sous forme anhydride. Un dérivé peut comprendre au moins une fonction carboxylique libre et au moins une fonction carboxylique choisie parmi les fonctions ester, lactone et anhydride.
Un sel d'acide dont la ou les fonctions carboxyiiques sont libres peut être un sel de l'acide gluconique, un sel de l'acide tartrique, un sel de l'acide citrique, un sel de l'acide oxo-gluconique. Avantageusement, l'acide organique hydroxylé est l'acide gluconique.
Un sel de dérivé d'acide dont la ou les fonctions carboxyiiques sont sous forme lactone peut être un sel de l'acide ascorbique, un sel de l'acide érythorbique.
Le ou les cations des sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou dédit dérivé peuvent être choisis parmi tous cations métalliques dont le métal est un métal alcalin, un métal alcalino-terreux, un métal de transition, un métal pauvre et parmi l'ion ammonium et les ions ammonium primaire, secondaire ou tertiaire. Avantageusement, le ou les cations sont sélectionnés parmi les ions sodium, potassium, calcium, cuivre, aluminium, éthanolammonium, triéthanolammonium, l'ion issu de l'éthanolamine.
Des sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou dédit dérivé préférés sont retenus parmi les suivants :
Gluconate de sodium, gluconate de potassium, gluconate d'ammonium, gluconate de monoéthanolamine, gluconate de triéthanolamine, gluconate de monoéthanolamide, gluconate de bétaïne, gluconate de calcium, gluconate d'aluminium, gluconate de cuivre
Sels d'acide oxo-gluconique ;
Sels d'acide tartrique ;
Sels d'acide ascorbique ;
Sels d'acide érythorbique ;
Sels d'acide citrique ;
Ainsi que les sels de tout acide différant des acides ci-dessus par la présence de substituants, tels que groupes hydrocarbonés par exemple de type alkyle, tel que les alkyles ayant de 1 à 20 atomes de carbone, de préférence de 1 à 6 atomes de carbone.
Dans un agent préféré de l'invention, la proportion (m/m) du ou des sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou dédit dérivé va de 10 à 25% par rapport à la masse dudit agent. Celle-ci est essentiellement à ajuster à la quantité de rouille à neutraliser.
Les composés passivants et séquestrants
Les composés passivants sont choisis de préférence parmi le nitrite de sodium, le phosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le tripolyphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphate de monoéthanolamine, le phosphate de triéthanolamine, l'hexamétaphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, le dodécyl phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyéthylène diphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'aminométhylène phosphonate de sodium ou potassium, et l'éthylène- diamine-tétraacétate de sodium ou de potassium.
Les composés séquestrants sont choisis de préférence le tripolyphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphate de monoéthanolamine, le phosphate de triéthanolamine, l'hexamétaphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, le dodécyl phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyéthylène diphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'aminométhylène phosphonate de sodium ou potassium, l'éthylène-diamine-tétraacétate de sodium et l'éthylène-diamine-tétraacétate de de potassium, qui comme indiqué ci-dessus, possèdent aussi des propriétés séquestrantes.
Selon une mise en œuvre préférée, la proportion (m/m) du ou des composés passivant(s) et/ou séquestrant(s) va de 5 à 10% par rapport à la masse dudit agent. En une proportion supérieure à 10%, le ou les composés risquent d'affecter la formulation du produit dans lequel l'additif serait ajouté. Par exemple, dans le cas d'une peinture en phase aqueuse (ou peinture à l'eau), un excès de ces composés produirait une immobilisation d'ions métalliques présents dans la peinture, comme le calcium, par chélation, générant alors des grumeaux. Lorsque la proportion de ce ou ces composés est trop faible, même si l'on observe une certaine efficacité de l'additif convertisseur de rouille, celle-ci est moindre.
Le solvant
Le choix du solvant est adapté au(x) sel(s) d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé ou dédit dérivé, en ce que ce ou ces derniers y seront solubles au moins partiellement, avantageusement totalement. Ainsi, dans le cas d'un cation métallique, le solvant sera de préférence aqueux, voire même être de l'eau ; lorsque le cation est un ammonium, le solvant pourra être aqueux mais aussi organique, de préférence un solvant organique hydroxylé, par exemple un alcool, comme l'éthanol. Ces solvants cités à titre d'exemples n'ont pas vocation à limiter la portée de la demande. Il appartient en effet aux compétences de l'homme du métier de sélectionner un solvant approprié.
L'invention réside aussi dans toutes les applications d'un agent convertisseur de rouille tel que décrit précédemment.
Cet agent peut en effet être utilisé comme additif à ajouter à des revêtements de différents types, peintures, vernis, enduits, colles, mastics, pour que ces derniers puissent s'appliquer directement sur la rouille. A titre d'exemple, dans les formulations de revêtement en phase aqueuse, l'additif est ajouté directement dans la formulation du revêtement. Il convertit la rouille et l'empêche de remonter à travers le film laissé par le revêtement.
L'additif n'étant pas un agent anticorrosion, il n'empêche pas la formation de rouille conséquente au contact d'un milieu aqueux avec un métal, et dans une indication antirouille, on l'utilisera avantageusement en association avec un inhibiteur de corrosion.
Ainsi, on apporte un produit antirouille pour le traitement d'un support rouillé ou susceptible de rouiller comprenant un agent convertisseur de rouille selon l'invention et un agent inhibiteur de corrosion. On a observé que la combinaison de ces deux agents permettait d'améliorer les propriétés anti-corrosion de l'agent inhibiteur de corrosion.
On fournit aussi un produit qui peut se présenter sous la forme d'une peinture, un vernis, un enduit, une colle, un mastic. L'additif est particulièrement adapté aux formulations aqueuses de ces produits et en cela est très avantageux.
L'invention concerne en outre l'utilisation d'un agent ou additif tel que défini précédemment, pour un produit de revêtement d'un support rouillé ou susceptible de rouiller, tel qu'une peinture, un vernis, une colle, un enduit, un mastic.
Appliqué sur un métal rouillé, le traitement par un tel produit permet de convertir la rouille, de protéger le métal contre l'oxydation ultérieure, et constitue une couche d'apprêt capable de retenir la rouille déjà formée sur la surface du métal, pour qu'elle ne remonte pas à travers les couches de produit de finition comme la peinture, appliquées par la suite. Si la peinture ou le vernis sont en phase aqueuse, l'agent doit être de préférence associé à un inhibiteur de corrosion.
La proportion d'additif de l'invention dans un produit peut varier selon la nature du produit, la nature du traitement, le support. A titre d'illustration, dans une peinture en phase aqueuse, une proportion (m/m) adéquate oscille entre 2 en 5% par rapport au poids de la peinture. Dans un produit autre, elle pourra être supérieure ou inférieure.
Les exemples suivants illustrent des formulations d'un agent convertisseur de rouille selon l'invention.
Exemple 1 : Formulations d'un afient convertisseur de rouille selon l'invention
Dans les formulations suivantes, les pourcentages sont exprimés en masse par rapport à la masse de l'additif.
1.1) Formulation 1 :
Eau : 79,5%
Gluconate de sodium : 14,5%
Tripolyphosphate de sodium : 6%
1.2) Formulation 2 :
Eau : 65,5%
Gluconate de sodium : 24,5%
Tripolyphosphate de sodium : 6%
Hexamétaphosphate de sodium : 4%
1.3) Formulation 3 :
Eau : 58%
Gluconate de sodium : 20,4%
Acide phosphorique : 4,5% Tripolyphosphate de sodium : 5%
Hexamétaphosphate de sodium : :
Triéthanolamine : 8,8
1.4) Formulation 4 :
Eau : 70,9 %
Gluconate de sodium : 24,2%
Nitrite de sodium : 4,9 %
Exemple 2 : Applications et avantafies d'un afient convertisseur de rouille selon l'invention
La formulation illustrée ci-dessous est la formulation 2 de l'exemple 1.2).
2.1) Effet convertisseur de rouille dans un prétraitement
Un support en acier rouillé est divisé en trois zones, parmi lesquelles une première est prétraitée par un convertisseur de rouille de l'invention, une seconde est prétraitée par un convertisseur de rouille à base d'acide tannique, la troisième n'étant pas prétraitée.
Ensuite, une couche de peinture blanche de type acrylique est appliquée sur chacune des trois zones.
On observe que la première zone est recouverte parfaitement et de manière homogène par la peinture.
Les deux autres zones présentent des taches de rouille résultant d'une remontée de la rouille après application de la couche de peinture.
2.2) Effet convertisseur de rouille d'un agent de l'invention incorporé dans une peinture
Un support en acier rouillé est divisé en trois zones, parmi lesquelles une première est revêtue d'une couche d'une peinture de l'invention qui contient un agent convertisseur de rouille de l'invention, une seconde est revêtue d'une couche d'une peinture qui contient un convertisseur de rouille à base d'acide tannique, la troisième est revêtue d'une couche de peinture ne contenant pas de convertisseur de rouille.
Ensuite, une couche de peinture blanche de type acrylique est appliquée sur chacune des trois zones.
On observe que la première zone est recouverte parfaitement et de manière homogène par la peinture.
La seconde zone est foncée sous l'effet de l'acide tannique et présente des taches de rouille qui ont migré à la surface de la couche. La troisième zone est blanche mais présente des taches de rouille qui ont migré à la surface de la couche.
Ces essais démontrent l'efficacité d'un agent convertisseur de rouille de l'invention par rapport aux agents connus et mettent en outre en évidence qu'il peut être incorporé à tout produit, sans que ses propriétés de convertisseur de rouille ne soient altérées, mais aussi sans modifier les propriétés du produit dans lequel il est incorporé.

Claims

REVENDICATIONS
1. Additif convertisseur de rouille consistant en un ou plusieurs sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou d'un dérivé d'acide organique hydroxylé, un ou des composés passivants, et un solvant, caractérisé en ce que le ou les acides organiques hydroxylés ou le ou lesdits dérivés sont choisis parmi les acides carboxyliques hydroxylés et leurs dérivés, différents de l'acide tannique, et dont la ou les fonctions carboxyliques sont choisies pa rmi les fonctions carboxyliques libres, les fonctions ester, les fonctions lactone et les fonctions anhydride, et en ce que le ou les composés passivants sont choisis parmi le nitrite de sodium, le phosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le tripolyphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphate de monoéthanolamine, le phosphate de triéthanolamine, l'hexamétaphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, le dodécyl phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyéthylène diphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'aminométhylène phosphonate de sodium ou potassium, l'éthylène-diamine-tétraacétate de sodium ou potassium..
2. Additif selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que le ou les acides organiques hydroxylés ou dérivés desdits sels d'acide carboxylique hydroxylé ou dérivé ont une ou des fonctions carboxyliques libres, tels que l'acide gluconique, l'acide tartrique, l'acide citrique, l'acide oxo-gluconique.
3. Additif selon la revendication 1 ou 2, ca ractérisé en ce que l'acide organique hydroxylé est l'acide gluconique.
4. Additif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que le ou les dérivés d'acide organique hydroxylé desdits sels de dérivés d'acide organique hydroxylé ont une ou des fonctions carboxyliques choisies parmi les fonctions lactone, tels que l'acide ascorbique et l'acide érythorbique.

Additif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que le ou les cations des sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou d'un dérivé, sont choisis parmi les cations métalliques dont le métal est un métal alcalin, un métal alcalino-terreux, un métal de transition, un méta l pauvre et parmi l'ion a mmonium et les ions ammonium primaire, secondaire ou tertiaire.
6. Additif selon la revendication 5, caractérisé en ce que le ou les cations sont choisis parmi les ions sodium, potassium, calcium, cuivre, aluminium, éthanolammonium, triéthanolammonium, l'ion issu de l'éthanolamine.

Additif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un ou des composés séquestrants sont choisis pa rmi le tripolyphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphate de monoéthanolamine, le phosphate de triéthanolamine, l'hexamétaphosphate de sodium ou de potassium, le phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, le dodécyl phosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'hydroxyéthylène diphosphonate de sodium ou de potassium, l'aminométhylène phosphonate de sodium ou potassium, l'éthylène-diamine-tétraacétate de sodium et l'éthylène-diamine- tétraacétate de potassium.
8. Additif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que la proportion (m/m) du ou des sels d'acide organique hydroxylé ou dédit dérivé va de 10 à 25% par rapport à la masse dudit additif.
9. Additif selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que la proportion (m/m) du ou des composés passivant(s) et/ou séquestrant(s) va de 5 à 10% par rapport à la masse dudit additif.
10. Produit antirouille pour le traitement d'un support rouillé ou susceptible de rouiller comprenant un additif convertisseur de rouille selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9 et un agent inhibiteur de corrosion.
11. Produit pour le revêtement d'un support rouillé ou susceptible de rouiller comprenant un additif convertisseur de rouille selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9 ou un produit antirouille selon la revendication 10.
12. Produit selon la revendication 11, caractérisé en ce qu'il est une peinture, un vernis, une colle, un enduit, un mastic.
13. Produit selon la revendication 11 ou 12, caractérisé en ce que ledit produit est en formulation aqueuse.
14. Utilisation d'un additif tel que défini à l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, pour un produit de revêtement d'un support rouillé ou susceptible de rouiller, tel qu'une peinture, un vernis, une colle, un enduit, un mastic.
