본 발명은 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제, 이를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액 및 리튬 이차전지에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 고온 저장 시 전이금속 용출을 억제할 수 있는 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제와 이를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액 및 리튬 이차전지에 관한 것이다.
정보사회의 발달로 인한 개인 IT 디바이스와 전산망이 발달되고 이에 수반하여 전반적인 사회의 전기에너지에 대한 의존도가 높아지면서, 전기 에너지를 효율적으로 저장하고 활용하기 위한 기술 개발이 요구되고 있다.
이차 전지는 개인 IT 디바이스 등에 적용될 수 있을 정도로 소형화가 가능하고, 전기자동차, 전력 저장 장치 등에 적용될 수도 있기 때문에, 여러 용도에 가장 적합한 기술로 관심이 대두되고 있다. 이차 전지 중에서도, 에너지 밀도가 높은 전지 시스템인 리튬 이온 전지(LIB)가 각광을 받고 있으며, 현재 여러 디바이스에 적용되고 있다.
리튬 이온 전지는 일반적으로 리튬을 함유하고 있는 전이금속 산화물로 이루어진 양극 활물질을 포함하는 양극과, 리튬 이온을 저장할 수 있는 음극 활물질을 포함하는 음극, 리튬 이온을 전달하는 매개체가 되는 전해액, 분리막으로 구성된다.
상기 양극은 전이금속의 산화환원 반응을 통하여 에너지를 저장하게 되는데, 이는 곧 전이금속이 양극 소재에 필수적으로 포함되어야 한다는 것으로 귀결된다. 또한, 상기 전해액의 경우, 리튬염과 이를 용해시키는 유기용매, 그리고 기능성 첨가제 등으로 구성되는데, 전지의 전기화학적 특성을 개선하기 위해서는 이 구성 요소들의 적합한 선정이 중요하다.
한편, 충,방전 시 또는 고온 노출 시에 양극으로부터 전해액 내부로 전이 금속들이 쉽게 용출되는 단점이 있다. 예를 들면, 전해액에 포함되는 리튬염, 대표적으로 LiPF6 등은 열에 매우 취약하여 전지가 고온에 노출되었을 때, 열분해되면서 PF5 등의 루이스 산을 발생시킨다. 이러한 루이스 산은 전극 표면에 형성되는 피막을 파괴시켜, 양극의 전이 금속들을 전해액 내부로 쉽게 용출시킨다.
이러한 용출된 전이 금속 이온은 양극에 재전착 (Re-deposition) 되면서 양극의 저항을 증가시키는 원인이 되기도 하고, 반대로 전해액을 통하여 음극으로 이동된 후 음극에서 전착되어 음극의 자가방전, solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) 막의 파괴 및 재생성 등으로 인한 추가적인 리튬 이온의 소모와 저항 증가 등을 야기하는 원인이 되고 있다.
이에, 리튬염의 열 분해로 인하여 생성되는 부산물 (HF와 PF5 등)을 제거하는 동시에 양극으로부터의 전이 금속 용출을 억제하여, 고온에서 전지의 열화를 저감시킬 수 있는 방법에 대한 개발이 시급한 상황이다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로, 양극 표면에 견고한 피막을 형성하는 동시에 리튬염으로부터 발생된 분해산물 제거 효과가 우수한 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 제공하고자 한다.
또한, 본 발명에서는 상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 포함함으로써 우수한 고온 안정성 및 고온 사이클 특성을 구현할 수 있는 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액과 이를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지를 제공하고자 한다.
일 구현예에 따르면, 본 발명은 하기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물을 포함하는 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 제공한다.

R은 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬기 또는 N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬기임) 이다.
다른 구현예에 따르면, 본 발명은 리튬염, 유기용매 및 제1 첨가제로 본 발명의 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액을 제공한다.
또 다른 구현예에 따르면, 본 발명은 양극 활물질을 포함하는 양극; 음극 활물질을 포함하는 음극; 상기 음극 및 양극 사이에 개재되는 분리막; 및 본 발명의 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액을 포함하는 리튬 이차전지를 제공한다.
본 발명의 비수전해액에 첨가제로 포함되는 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물은 구조 내에 비공유전자쌍을 가지는 질소 원자를 적어도 2 이상 포함하는 화합물로서, 양극 혹은 음극 표면에 안정한 피막을 형성할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 상기 질소 원자가 루이스 염기로 작용하여 전해액 분해산물로 발생하는 루이스 산을 효과적으로 제거(scavenging)할 수 있다.
따라서, 전해액 내의 유기 용매의 추가 분해를 억제할 수 있고, 양극으로부터 전이금속 용출을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있는 비수전해액과 이를 포함함으로써 고온 안정성 및 고온 사이클 특성이 향상된 리튬 이차전지를 구현할 수 있다.
이하, 본 발명을 더욱 상세하게 설명한다.
본 명세서 및 청구범위에 사용된 용어나 단어는 통상적이거나 사전적인 의미로 한정해서 해석되어서는 아니 되며, 발명자는 그 자신의 발명을 가장 최선의 방법으로 설명하기 위해 용어의 개념을 적절하게 정의할 수 있다는 원칙에 입각하여 본 발명의 기술적 사상에 부합하는 의미와 개념으로 해석되어야만 한다.
또한, 본 명세서에서 사용되는 용어는 단지 예시적인 실시예들을 설명하기 위해 사용된 것으로, 본 발명을 한정하려는 의도는 아니다. 단수의 표현은 문맥상 명백하게 다르게 뜻하지 않는 한, 복수의 표현을 포함한다.
본 발명을 설명하기에 앞서, 본 명세서에서, "포함하다", "구비하다" 또는 "가지다" 등의 용어는 실시된 특징, 숫자, 단계, 구성 요소 또는 이들을 조합한 것이 존재함을 지정하려는 것이지, 하나 또는 그 이상의 다른 특징들이나 숫자, 단계, 구성 요소, 또는 이들을 조합한 것들의 존재 또는 부가 가능성을 미리 배제하지 않는 것으로 이해되어야 한다.
한편, 본 명세서 내에서 "탄소수 a 내지 b"의 기재에 있어서, "a" 및 "b"는 구체적인 작용기에 포함되는 탄소 원자의 개수를 의미한다. 즉, 상기 작용기는 "a" 내지 "b" 개의 탄소원자를 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, "탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬렌기"는 탄소수 1 내지 5의 탄소 원자를 포함하는 알킬렌기, 즉 -CH2-, -CH2CH2-, -CH2CH2CH2-, -CH2(CH3)CH-, -CH(CH3)CH2- 및 -CH(CH3)CH2CH2- 등을 의미한다.
상기 "알킬렌기"라는 용어는 분지된 또는 분지되지 않은 2가의 불포화 탄화수소기를 의미한다. 일 구현예에서, 상기 알킬렌기는 치환 또는 비치환될 수 있다. 상기 알킬렌기는 메틸렌기, 에틸렌기, 프로필렌기, 이소프로필렌기, 부틸렌기, 이소부틸렌기, tert-부틸렌기, 펜틸렌기, 3-펜틸렌기 등을 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 본 명세서에서, "치환"이란 별도의 정의가 없는 한, 탄소에 결합된 적어도 하나 이상의 수소가 수소 이외의 원소로 치환된 것을 의미하며, 예를 들면, 탄소수 1 내지 6의 알킬기 또는 불소로 치환된 것을 의미한다.
일반적으로, 전지 구동 시에 전해액에서 생성되는 불화수소(HF) 혹은 거듭된 충방전에 따른 양극의 구조 변이 등으로 인하여 양극을 구성하는 전이금속은 쉽게 전해액으로 용출되고, 용출된 전이금속 이온은 양극에 재전착 (re-deposition) 되어 양극의 저항을 증가시키는 원인이 된다. 또는 전해액을 통하여 음극으로 이동된 전이금속은 음극에 전착되어 음극의 자가 방전을 야기시키고, 음극에 부동태 능력을 부여하는 solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) 막을 파괴하기 때문에, 추가적인 전해액 분해 반응을 촉진시켜 음극의 계면 저항을 증가시킨다.
이러한 일련의 반응들은 전지 내의 가용 리튬 이온의 양을 감소시키기 때문에, 전지의 용량 열화를 가져올 뿐만 아니라, 전해액 분해 반응이 수반되어 일어나기에 저항 증가를 발생시킨다. 더하여, 양극의 전극 구성시에 금속 불순물이 전극에 포함된 경우, 초기 충전시에 금속 이물이 양극에서 녹아 음극 표면에 이렇게 용출된 금속 이온이 전착되게 된다. 이러한 전착된 금속 이온은 수지상으로 성장하여 전지의 내부 단락을 발생시켜 저전압 불량의 큰 원인이 된다.
본 발명에서는 이러한 열화 및 불량 거동의 원인이 되는 용출된 금속 이온을 전지 내부에서 제거하여 음극 또는 양극에 전착되는 것을 방지하는 동시에 양극 표면에 견고한 피막을 형성하여 전이금속의 용출을 억제할 수 있는 첨가제를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지용 비수전해액과 이를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지를 제공하고자 한다.
이차전지용 전해액 첨가제
본 발명에서는 하기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물을 포함하는 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 제공한다.

R은 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬기 또는 N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬기임) 이다.
구체적으로, 상기 화학식 1에서, X는 S이고, R은 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 3의 알킬기 또는 N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 3의 알킬기임) 일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 화학식 1에서, X는 S이고, N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 3의 알킬기임) 일 수 있다.
보다 구체적으로, 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물은 하기 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물일 수 있다.

상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물은 구조 내에 질소(N) 원자 기반의 비공유전자쌍을 포함하므로, 기본적으로 루이스 산 물질과의 결합력이 높다. 따라서, 고온에서 이차전지의 열화를 야기하는 부산물, 예컨대 리튬염의 열분해로 인하여 생성되는 분해산물을 제거할 수 있고, 이에 따른 양극 표면의 피막 열화를 방지하여 전이금속 용출을 억제할 수 있다. 그뿐 아니라, 질소(N) 원자 기반의 물질은 전기화학적으로 환원 분해되어 음극에 질소(N) 원자 기반의 피막(SEI)을 형성할 수 있다. 이러한 질소(N) 원자 기반의 피막은 전지가 고온에 노출되었을 때 쉽게 분해되지 않고 유지되는 특성을 가진다. 따라서, 음극 표면에서 SEI 막이 분해되지 않고 안정하게 유지되는 특성을 부여함으로써, SEI 분해에 의한 추가 전이금속의 음극 환원 반응을 제어할 수 있고, 고온 저장 시에 양극으로부터 용출된 전이금속이 음극에 재전착되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
상기 화학식 1의 화합물이 치환기(R)로 아민기(N(R1)2)를 포함하는 경우, 아민기의 비공유전자쌍이 산화되면서 양극 표면에 더욱 견고한 피막을 형성할 수 있다. 따라서, 고온에서 양극으로부터의 전이금속 용출 억제 효과를 더욱 개선할 수 있고, 이차전지의 자가 방전을 완화하여 고온 저장 및 사이클 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다.
비수 전해액
또한, 본 발명에서는 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물을 포함하는 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 포함하는 비수 전해액을 제공할 수 있다.
상기 비수 전해액은 리튬염, 유기 용매, 기타 첨가제를 더 포함할 수 있다.
(1) 첨가제
본 발명의 전해액 첨가제로 포함되는 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물에 대한 설명은 전술한 내용과 중복되므로, 그 기재를 생략한다.
다만, 상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제의 함량은 전극 표면에 안정한 피막 형성 효과와 리튬염의 열분해산물 제거 효과를 고려하여, 비수 전해액 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.05 중량% 내지 3 중량%, 구체적으로 0.1 중량% 내지 3 중량%, 더욱 구체적으로 0.5 중량% 내지 1.5 중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제의 함량이 상기 범위를 만족할 경우, 고온에서 양극 활물질의 전이금속 용출을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있으며, 리튬염의 열분해산물을 효과적으로 제거하여, 우수한 고온 내구성을 구현할 수 있다. 만약, 상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제의 함량이 0.05 중량% 미만이면 구동 중 리튬염의 열분해산물을 초기에 제거할 수는 있으나, 구동 시간이 증가할수록 제거 효과가 미미할 수 있고, 양극 보호 효과가 미미하여 전이금속 용출 억제 효과가 저하될 수 있다. 또한, 제1 첨가제의 함량이 3 중량%를 초과하면 과량의 첨가제에 의한 부반응 및 부산물이 발생하여 고온 저장 시에 이차전지의 저항이 증가하여 출력 특성이 저하될 수 있다.
따라서, 상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제의 함량이 상기 범위를 만족할 경우, 첨가제에 의한 부반응, 용량 저하 및 저항 증가 등의 단점을 최대한 억제하면서, 양극 표면에 견고한 피막을 형성하는 동시에, 리튬염의 분해산물인 HF와 PF5 등의 산을 보다 효과적으로 제거할 수 있다.
(2) 리튬염
상기 리튬염은 리튬 이차전지용 전해액에 통상적으로 사용되는 것들이 제한 없이 사용될 수 있으며, 예를 들어 양이온으로 Li+를 포함하고, 음이온으로는 F-, Cl-, Br-, I-, NO3

구체적으로, 상기 리튬염은 LiCl, LiBr, LiI, LiBF4, LiClO4, LiB10Cl10, LiAlCl4, LiAlO4, LiPF6, LiCF3SO3, LiCH3CO2, LiCF3CO2, LiAsF6, LiSbF6, LiCH3SO3, LiFSI (Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl) imide, LiN(SO2F)2), LiBETI (lithium bis(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl) imide, LiN(SO2CF2CF3)2 및 LiTFSI (lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide, LiN(SO2CF3)2)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 단일물 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물을 포함할 수 있다. 이들 외에도 비수 전해액에 통상적으로 사용되는 리튬염이 제한 없이 사용할 수 있다.
상기 리튬염은 통상적으로 사용 가능한 범위 내에서 적절히 변경할 수 있으나, 최적의 전극 표면의 부식 방지용 피막 형성 효과를 얻기 위하여, 전해액 내에 0.8 M 내지 4.0 M의 농도, 구체적으로 1.0M 내지 3.0M 농도로 포함될 수 있다.
상기 리튬염의 농도가 0.8 M 미만이면, 리튬 이온의 이동성이 감소하여 저온 출력 개선 및 고온 저장 시 사이클 특성 개선의 효과가 미미하고, 리튬염의 농도가 4.0 M 농도를 초과하면 비수 전해액의 점도가 과도하게 증가하여 비수 전해액 함침성이 저하될 수 있고, 피막 형성 효과가 감소할 수 있다.
(3) 유기용매
상기 유기용매로는 리튬 전해액에 통상적으로 사용되는 다양한 유기 용매들이 제한 없이 사용될 수 있으며, 구체적으로 이차전지의 충방전 과정에서 산화 반응 등에 의한 분해가 최소화될 수 있고, 첨가제와 함께 목적하는 특성을 발휘할 수 있는 것이라면 그 종류에 제한이 없다.
예를 들어, 상기 유기 용매는 유전율이 높아 전해액 내의 리튬염을 잘 해리시키는 고점도의 환형 카보네이트계 유기용매를 사용할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 유기 용매는 보다 높은 전기 전도율을 갖는 전해액을 제조하기 위하여, 상기 환경 카보네이트계 유기용매와 함께 선형 카보네이트계 유기 용매를 적당한 비율로 혼합하여 사용할 수 있다.
상기 환형 카보네이트계 유기용매는 고점도의 유기용매로서 유전율이 높아 전해액 내의 리튬염을 잘 해리시킬 수 있는 유기용매로서, 그 구체적인 예로 에틸렌 카보네이트(EC), 프로필렌 카보네이트(PC), 1,2-부틸렌 카보네이트, 2,3-부틸렌 카보네이트, 1,2-펜틸렌 카보네이트, 2,3-펜틸렌 카보네이트 및 비닐렌 카보네이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 적어도 하나 이상의 유기용매를 포함할 수 있으며, 이 중에서도 에틸렌 카보네이트 및 프로필렌 카보네이트(PC) 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 선형 카보네이트계 유기 용매는 저점도 및 저유전율을 가지는 유기용매로서, 그 대표적인 예로 디메틸 카보네이트(dimethyl carbonate, DMC), 디에틸 카보네이트(diethyl carbonate, DEC), 디프로필 카보네이트, 에틸메틸 카보네이트(EMC), 메틸프로필 카보네이트 및 에틸프로필 카보네이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 적어도 하나 이상의 유기용매를 사용할 수 있으며, 구체적으로 에틸메틸 카보네이트(EMC)를 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 유기용매는 환형 카보네이트 유기용매와 선형 카보네이트 유기용매를 혼합하여 사용할 수 있으며, 이때 환형 카보네이트 유기용매와 선형 카보네이트는 10:90 내지 50:50, 구체적으로 20:80 내지 30:70 부피비로 혼합할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 유기용매는 높은 이온 전도율을 갖는 전해액을 제조하기 위하여, 상기 환형 카보네이트계 유기용매 및/또는 선형 카보네이트계 유기용매에 융점이 낮고, 고온에서 안정성이 높은 선형 에스테르계 유기용매 및/또는 환형 에스테르계 유기용매를 추가로 포함할 수도 있다
상기 선형 카보네이트계 유기용매는 대표적인 예로 디메틸 카보네이트(dimethyl carbonate, DMC), 디에틸 카보네이트(diethyl carbonate, DEC), 디프로필 카보네이트, 에틸메틸 카보네이트(EMC), 메틸프로필 카보네이트 및 에틸프로필 카보네이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 적어도 하나 이상의 유기용매를 사용할 수 있으며, 구체적으로 에틸메틸 카보네이트(EMC)를 포함할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 환형 에스테르계 유기용매로는 γ-부티로락톤, γ-발레로락톤, γ-카프로락톤, σ-발레로락톤 및 ε-카프로락톤으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 적어도 하나 이상의 유기용매를 들 수 있다.
한편, 상기 본 발명의 비수전해액 중에서 유기용매를 제외한 구성성분, 예컨대 전해액 첨가제, 리튬염 및 후술하는 기타 첨가제들의 함량을 제외한 잔부는 별도의 언급이 없는 한 모두 유기용매일 수 있다.
(4) 기타 첨가제
또한, 본 발명의 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액은 고출력의 환경에서 비수 전해액이 분해되어 음극 붕괴가 유발되는 것을 방지하거나, 저온 고율방전 특성, 고온 안정성, 과충전 방지, 고온에서의 전지 팽창 억제 효과 등을 더욱 향상시키기 위하여, 필요에 따라 상기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물 이외에 다른 부가적인 기타 첨가제들을 추가로 포함할 수 있다.
이러한 기타 첨가제의 예로는 환형 카보네이트계 화합물, 할로겐 치환된 카보네이트계 화합물, 설톤계 화합물, 설페이트계 화합물, 포스페이트계 화합물, 보레이트계 화합물, 니트릴계 화합물, 벤젠계 화합물, 아민계 화합물, 실란계 화합물 및 리튬염계 화합물로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 하나 이상을 들 수 있다.
상기 환형 카보네이트계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 비닐렌카보네이트(VC) 또는 비닐에틸렌 카보네이트 등일 수 있다.
상기 할로겐 치환된 카보네이트계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 플루오로에틸렌 카보네이트(FEC)) 등일 수 있다.
상기 설톤계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 1,3-프로판 설톤(PS), 1,4-부탄 설톤, 에텐설톤, 1,3-프로펜 설톤(PRS), 1,4-부텐 설톤 및 1-메틸-1,3-프로펜 설톤으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 하나 이상의 화합물일 수 있다.
상기 설페이트계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 에틸렌 설페이트(Ethylene Sulfate; Esa), 트리메틸렌설페이트 (Trimethylene sulfate; TMS), 또는 메틸트리메틸렌설페이트 (Methyl trimethylene sulfate; MTMS) 등일 수 있다.
상기 포스페이트계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 리튬 디플루오로(비스옥살라토)포스페이트, 리튬 디플루오로포스페이트, 트리스(트리메틸실릴) 포스페이트, 트리스(트리메틸실릴) 포스파이, 트리스(2,2,2-트리플루오로에틸) 포스페이트 및 트리스(트리플루오로에틸)포스파이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상의 화합물일 수 있다.
상기 보레이트계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 테트라페닐보레이트, 리튬 옥살릴디플루오로보레이트 등일 수 있다.
상기 니트릴계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 숙시노니트릴, 아디포니트릴, 아세토니트릴, 프로피오니트릴, 부티로니트릴, 발레로니트릴, 카프릴로니트릴, 헵탄니트릴, 사이클로펜탄 카보니트릴, 사이클로헥산 카보니트릴, 2-플루오로벤조니트릴, 4-플루오로벤조니트릴, 다이플루오로벤조니트릴, 트리플루오로벤조니트릴, 페닐아세토니트릴, 2-플루오로페닐아세토니트릴, 및 4-플루오로페닐아세토니트릴로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 적어도 하나 이상의 화합물일 수 있다.
상기 벤젠계 화합물은, 예를 들면, 플루오로벤젠 등일 수 있고, 상기 아민계 화합물은 트리에탄올아민 또는 에틸렌디아민 등일 수 있으며, 상기 실란계 화합물은 테트라비닐실란 등일 수 있다.
상기 리튬염계 화합물은 상기 비수 전해액에 포함되는 리튬염과 상이한 화합물로서, LiPO2F2, LiODFB, LiBOB(리튬 비스옥살레이토보레이트(LiB(C2O4)2) 및 LiBF4로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상의 화합물일 수 있다.
이러한 부가적 첨가제 중, 비닐렌 카보네이트, 비닐에틸렌 카보네이트 또는 숙시노 니트릴을 포함하는 경우에 이차전지의 초기 활성화 공정시 음극 표면에 보다 견고한 SEI 피막을 형성할 수 있다.
상기 LiBF4를 포함하는 경우에는 고온 저장시 전해액의 분해로 인하여 생성될 수 있는 가스 발생을 억제하여, 이차전지의 고온 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
상기 첨가제는 2 종 이상의 화합물을 혼용하여 사용할 수 있으며, 비수 전해액 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.01 내지 50 중량%, 구체적으로 0.01 내지 10 중량%로 포함될 수 있고, 바람직하게는 0.05 내지 5 중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 상기 부가적 첨가제의 함량이 0.01 중량% 보다 적으면 전지의 저온 출력 개선 및 고온 저장 특성 및 고온 수명 특성 개선의 효과가 미미하고, 상기 부가적 첨가제의 함량이 50 중량%를 초과하면 과량의 첨가제에 의해 전지의 충방전시 부반응이 과도하게 발생할 가능성이 있다. 특히, 상기 SEI 막 형성용 첨가제들이 과량으로 첨가될 시에 고온에서 충분히 분해되지 못하여, 상온에서 전해액 내에서 미반응물이 생성되거나, 또는 석출된 채로 존재하고 있을 수 있다. 이에 따라 이차전지의 수명 또는 저항특성이 저하되는 부반응이 발생될 수 있다.
리튬 이차전지
다음으로, 본 발명에 따른 리튬 이차전지에 대해 설명한다.
본 발명에 따른 리튬 이차전지는 양극, 음극, 상기 양극 및 음극 사이에 개재되는 분리막 및 비수 전해액을 포함하며, 이때, 상기 비수 전해액은 상기 본 발명에 따른 비수 전해액이다. 비수 전해액에 대해서는 상술하였으므로, 이에 대한 설명은 생략하고, 이하에서는 다른 구성요소들에 대해 설명한다.
(1) 양극
본 발명에 따른 양극은, 양극 활물질을 포함하는 양극 활물질층을 포함할 수 있으며, 필요에 따라, 상기 양극 활물질층은 도전재 및/또는 바인더를 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질은 리튬의 가역적인 인터칼레이션 및 디인터칼레이션이 가능한 화합물로서, 구체적으로는 니켈(Ni), 코발트(Co), 망간(Mn), 철 (Fe) 및 알루미늄(Al)으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 하나 이상의 금속과 리튬을 포함하는 코발트, 망간, 니켈 또는 알루미늄과 같은 1종 이상의 금속과 리튬을 포함하는 리튬 복합금속 산화물을 포함할 수 있다.
보다 구체적으로, 상기 리튬 복합금속 산화물은 리튬-망간계 산화물(예를 들면, LiMnO2, LiMn2O4 등), 리튬-코발트계 산화물(예를 들면, LiCoO2 등), 리튬-니켈계 산화물(예를 들면, LiNiO2 등), 리튬-니켈-망간계 산화물(예를 들면, LiNi1-YMnYO2(0<Y<1), LiMn2-zNizO4(0<Z<2), 리튬-니켈-코발트계 산화물(예를 들면, LiNi1-Y1CoY1O2(0<Y1<1), 리튬-망간-코발트계 산화물(예를 들면, LiCo1-Y2MnY2O2(0<Y2<1), LiMn2-z1Coz1O4(0<Z1<2), 리튬-니켈-망간-코발트계 산화물(예를 들면, Li(NipCoqMnr1)O2(0<p<1, 0<q<1, 0<r1<1, p+q+r1=1) 또는 Li(Nip1Coq1Mnr2)O4(0<p1<2, 0<q1<2, 0<r2<2, p1+q1+r2=2), 또는 리튬-니켈-코발트-전이금속(M) 산화물(예를 들면, Li(Nip2Coq2Mnr3MS2)O2(M은 Al, Fe, V, Cr, Ti, Ta, Mg 및 Mo로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되고, p2, q2, r3 및 s2는 각각 독립적인 원소들의 원자분율로서, 0<p2<1, 0<q2<1, 0<r3<1, 0<s2<1, p2+q2+r3+s2=1이다) 등을 들 수 있으며, 이들 중 어느 하나 또는 둘 이상의 화합물이 포함될 수 있다.
이 중에서도 전지의 용량 특성 및 안정성을 높일 수 있다는 점에서 상기 리튬 복합금속 산화물은 리튬 니켈망간코발트 산화물 (예를 들면, Li(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)O2, Li(Ni0.5Mn0.3Co0.2)O2, Li(Ni0.7Mn0.15Co0.15)O2 또는 Li(Ni0.8Mn0.1Co0.1)O2 등) 또는 리튬 니켈코발트알루미늄 산화물(예를 들면, Li(Ni0.8Co0.15Al0.05)O2 등) 등일 수 있으며, 특히 리튬 복합금속 산화물을 형성하는 구성원소의 종류 및 함량비 제어에 따른 개선 효과의 현저함을 고려할 때 Ni 함량이 높은 Li(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)O2, Li(Ni0.7Mn0.15Co0.15)O2, Li(Ni0.8Mn0.1Co0.1)O2, Li(Ni0.8Co0.15Al0.05)O2, Li(Ni0.86Mn0.05Co0.07Al0.02)O2 또는 Li(Ni0.90Mn0.05Co0.05)O2 등을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 Hi-Ni 양극재의 경우 고온 노출 등에 의한 양극의 구조붕괴 가속화에 의해 전이금속 용출이 심화될 수 있고, 특히 전해액 내 HF 등이 존재하는 경우 가속화 될 수 있으나, 본 발명에서와 같이 비수전해액 내에 루이스 산 제거를 위한 첨가제, 예컨대 HF를 scavenging할 수 있는 첨가제를 추가하는 경우, 이러한 문제점을 개선하여 이차전지의 고온 내구성 및 안정성을 보다 향상시킬 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질은 양극 활물질층 전체 중량을 기준으로 80 내지 98중량%, 보다 구체적으로는 85 내지 98중량%의 함량으로 포함될 수 있다. 양극 활물질이 상기 범위로 포함될 때 우수한 용량 특성을 나타낼 수 있다.
다음으로, 상기 도전재는 당해 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 도전성을 가진 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 카본블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 채널 블랙, 퍼니스 블랙, 램프 블랙, 또는 서멀 블랙 등의 탄소 분말; 결정구조가 매우 발달된 천연 흑연, 인조흑연, 또는 그라파이트 등의 흑연 분말; 탄소 섬유나 금속 섬유 등의 도전성 섬유; 불화 카본, 알루미늄, 니켈 분말 등의 금속 분말; 산화아연, 티탄산 칼륨 등의 도전성 위스커; 산화티탄 등의 도전성 금속 산화물; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 소재 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 도전재는 통상적으로 양극 활물질층 중 고형분의 전체 중량을 기준으로 1 내지 30 중량%, 0.1 내지 10중량%, 바람직하게는 0.1 내지 5중량%로 포함될 수 있다.
다음으로, 상기 바인더는 양극 활물질 입자들 간의 부착 및 양극 활물질과 집전체와의 접착력을 향상시키는 역할을 한다.
상기 바인더의 구체적인 예로는 폴리비닐리덴플로라이드(PVDF), 비닐리덴플루오라이드-헥사플루오로프로필렌코폴리머(PVDF-co-HFP), 폴리비닐알코올, 폴리아크릴로니트릴(polyacrylonitrile), 카르복시메틸셀룰로우즈(CMC), 전분, 히드록시프로필셀룰로우즈, 재생 셀룰로우즈, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔 폴리머, 술폰화-에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔 폴리머, 스티렌부타디엔 고무(SBR), 불소 고무, 또는 이들의 다양한 공중합체 등을 들 수 있으며, 이들 중 1종 단독 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 바인더는 양극 활물질층 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.1 내지 15 중량%, 바람직하게는 0.1 내지 10중량%로 포함될 수 있다.
상기와 같은 본 발명의 양극은 당해 기술 분야에 알려져 있는 양극 제조 방법에 따라 제조될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 상기 양극은, 양극 활물질, 바인더 및/또는 도전재를 용매 중에 용해 또는 분산시켜 제조한 양극 슬러리를 양극 집전체 상에 도포한 후, 건조 및 압연하여 양극 활물질층을 형성하는 방법, 또는 상기 양극 활물질층을 별도의 지지체 상에 캐스팅한 다음, 지지체를 박리하여 얻은 필름을 양극 집전체 상에 라미네이션하는 방법 등을 통해 제조될 수 있다.
상기 양극 집전체는 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 도전성을 가진 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어 스테인리스 스틸, 알루미늄, 니켈, 티탄, 소성 탄소 또는 알루미늄이나 스테인레스 스틸 표면에 탄소, 니켈, 티탄, 은 등으로 표면 처리한 것 등이 사용될 수 있다. 또, 상기 양극 집전체는 통상적으로 3 내지 500㎛의 두께를 가질 수 있으며, 상기 집전체 표면 상에 미세한 요철을 형성하여 양극재의 접착력을 높일 수도 있다. 예를 들어 필름, 시트, 호일, 네트, 다공질체, 발포체, 부직포체 등 다양한 형태로 사용될 수 있다.
상기 용매는 당해 기술분야에서 일반적으로 사용되는 용매일 수 있으며, 디메틸셀폭사이드(dimethyl sulfoxide, DMSO), 이소프로필 알코올(isopropyl alcohol), N-메틸피롤리돈(NMP), 아세톤(acetone) 또는 물 등을 들 수 있으며, 이들 중 1종 단독 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 용매의 사용량은 양극 합재의 도포 두께, 제조 수율, 작업성 등을 고려하여 양극 슬러리가 적절한 점도를 갖도록 조절될 수 있는 정도이면 되고, 특별히 한정되지 않는다.
(2) 음극
다음으로, 음극에 대해 설명한다.
본 발명에 따른 음극은 음극 활물질을 포함하는 음극 활물질층을 포함하며, 상기 음극 활물질층은, 필요에 따라, 도전재 및/또는 바인더를 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 음극 활물질로는 당 업계에서 사용되는 다양한 음극 활물질, 예를 들면, 탄소계 음극 활물질, 실리콘계 음극 활물질 또는 이들의 혼합물 등이 사용될 수 있다.
일 구현예에 따르면, 상기 음극 활물질은 탄소계 음극 활물질을 포함할 수 있으며, 상기 탄소계 음극 활물질로는, 당 업계에서 사용되는 다양한 탄소계 음극 활물질들, 예를 들면, 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 키시흑연 (Kish graphite)과 같은 그라파이트계 물질; 열분해 탄소 (pyrolytic carbon), 액정 피치계 탄소섬유 (mesophase pitch based carbon fiber), 탄소 미소구체 (meso-carbon microbeads), 액정피치 (Mesophase pitches) 및 석유와 석탄계 코크스 (petroleum or coal tar pitch derived cokes) 등의 고온 소성탄소, 연화탄소 (soft carbon), 경화탄소 (hard carbon) 등이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 탄소계 음극 활물질의 형상은 특별히 제한되지 않으며, 무정형, 판상, 인편상, 구형 또는 섬유형 등과 같은 다양한 형상의 물질들이 사용될 수 있다.
바람직하게는 상기 탄소계 음극 활물질은 천연 흑연 및 인조 흑연 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 더 바람직하게는 상기 탄소계 음극 활물질은 천연 흑연 및 인조 흑연을 포함할 수 있다. 천연 흑연과 인조 흑연을 함께 사용할 경우, 집전체와의 접착력이 높아져 활물질 탈리를 억제할 수 있다.
다른 구현예에 따르면, 상기 음극 활물질은 탄소계 음극 활물질 및 실리콘계 음극 활물질을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 탄소계 음극 활물질의 구체적인 예는 상술한 바와 동일하다.
상기 실리콘계 음극 활물질은, 예를 들면 금속 실리콘(Si), 실리콘 산화물(SiOx, 여기서 0<x≤2) 실리콘 탄화물(SiC) 및 Si-Y 합금(상기 Y는 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 원소이며, Si은 아님)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 원소 Y로는 Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, Rf, V, Nb, Ta, Db, Cr, Mo, W, Sg, Tc, Re, Bh, Fe, Pb, Ru, Os, Hs, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, B, Al, Ga, Sn, In, Ti, Ge, P, As, Sb, Bi, S, Se, Te, Po, 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택될 수 있다.
상기 실리콘계 음극 활물질은 탄소계 음극 활물질에 비해 높은 용량 특성을 나타내므로, 실리콘계 음극 활물질을 추가로 포함할 경우, 더 우수한 용량 특성을 얻을 수 있다. 다만, 실리콘계 음극 활물질을 함유한 음극의 경우, 흑연 음극에 비해 SEI 막 내에 산소(O)-리치(O-rich)한 성분을 더 많이 함유하고 있으며, O-리치한 성분들을 포함하는 SEI막은 전해액 내에 HF 또는 PF5와 같은 루이스 산이 존재할 경우, 더 쉽게 분해되는 경향을 보인다. 따라서, 실리콘계 음극 활물질을 함유한 음극의 경우, 안정적인 SEI 막 유지를 위해 전해액 내 HF 및 PF5와 같은 루이스 산의 생성을 억제하거나, 생성된 루이스 산을 제거(혹은 scavenging)할 필요가 있다. 본 발명에 따른 비수 전해액은 양극 및 음극에 안정한 피막을 형성할 수 있는 전해액 첨가제를 포함하기 때문에, 실리콘계 활물질을 함유한 음극 사용 시에 SEI 피막 분해를 효과적으로 억제할 수 있다.
한편, 상기 실리콘계 음극 활물질 : 탄소계 음극 활물질의 혼합 비율은 중량비율로 3:97 내지 99:1, 바람직하게 5:95 내지 15:85 일 수 있다. 실리콘계 음극 활물질과 탄소계 음극 활물질의 혼합 비율이 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 용량 특성을 향상시키면서도 실리콘계 음극 활물질의 부피 팽창이 억제되어 우수한 사이클 성능을 확보할 수 있다.
상기 음극 활물질은 음극 활물질층 전체 중량을 기준으로 80 중량% 내지 99중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 음극 활물질의 함량이 상기 범위를 만족할 경우, 우수한 용량 특성 및 전기화학적 특성을 얻을 수 있다.
다음으로, 상기 도전재는 음극활물질의 도전성을 더욱 향상시키기 위한 성분으로서, 음극 활물질층의 전체 중량을 기준으로 10 중량% 이하, 바람직하게는 5 중량% 이하로 첨가될 수 있다. 이러한 도전재는 당해 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 도전성을 가진 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 천연 흑연이나 인조 흑연 등의 흑연; 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 채널 블랙, 퍼네이스 블랙, 램프 블랙, 서멀 블랙 등의 카본블랙; 탄소 섬유나 금속 섬유 등의 도전성 섬유; 불화 카본, 알루미늄, 니켈 분말 등의 금속 분말; 산화아연, 티탄산 칼륨 등의 도전성 위스커; 산화티탄 등의 도전성 금속 산화물; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 소재 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 도전재, 활물질 및 집전체 간의 결합에 조력하는 성분으로서, 통상적으로 음극 활물질층의 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.1 중량% 내지 10 중량%로 첨가된다. 이러한 바인더의 예로는, 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드(PVDF), 폴리비닐알코올, 카르복시메틸셀룰로우즈(CMC), 전분, 히드록시프로필셀룰로우즈, 재생 셀룰로우즈, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔 폴리머, 술폰화-에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔 폴리머, 스티렌-부타디엔 고무, 니트릴-부타디엔 고무, 불소 고무, 이들의 다양한 공중합체 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 음극은 당해 기술 분야에 알려져 있는 음극 제조 방법에 따라 제조될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 상기 음극은 음극 집전체 상에 음극 활물질과, 선택적으로 바인더 및 도전재를 용매 중에 용해 또는 분산시켜 제조한 음극 슬러리를 도포하고 압연, 건조하여 음극 활물질층을 형성하는 방법 또는 상기 음극 활물질층을 별도의 지지체 상에 캐스팅한 다음, 지지체를 박리시켜 얻은 필름을 음극 집전체 상에 라미네이션함으로써 제조될 수 있다.
상기 음극 집전체는 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 높은 도전성을 가지는 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 구리, 스테인레스스틸, 알루미늄, 니켈, 티탄, 소성 탄소, 구리나 스테인레스 스틸의 표면에 탄소, 니켈, 티탄, 은 등으로 표면처리한 것, 알루미늄-카드뮴 합금 등이 사용될 수 있다. 또, 상기 음극 집전체는 통상적으로 3㎛ 내지 500㎛의 두께를 가질 수 있으며, 양극 집전체와 마찬가지로, 상기 집전체 표면에 미세한 요철을 형성하여 음극활물질의 결합력을 강화시킬 수도 있다. 예를 들어, 필름, 시트, 호일, 네트, 다공질체, 발포체, 부직포체 등 다양한 형태로 사용될 수 있다.
상기 용매는 당해 기술분야에서 일반적으로 사용되는 용매일 수 있으며, 디메틸셀폭사이드(dimethyl sulfoxide, DMSO), 이소프로필 알코올(isopropyl alcohol), N-메틸피롤리돈(NMP), 아세톤(acetone) 또는 물 등을 들 수 있으며, 이들 중 1종 단독 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 용매의 사용량은 음극 슬러리의 도포 두께, 제조 수율, 작업성 등을 고려하여 음극 슬러리가 적절한 점도를 갖도록 조절될 수 있는 정도이면 되고, 특별히 한정되지 않는다.
(3) 분리막
본 발명에 따른 리튬 이차전지는, 상기 양극 및 음극 사이에 분리막을 포함한다.
상기 분리막은 음극과 양극을 분리하고 리튬 이온의 이동 통로를 제공하는 것으로, 통상 리튬 이차전지에서 분리막으로 사용되는 것이라면 특별한 제한없이 사용가능하며, 특히 전해액의 이온 이동에 대하여 저저항이면서 전해액 함습 능력이 우수한 것이 바람직하다.
구체적으로는 분리막으로 다공성 고분자 필름, 예를 들어 에틸렌 단독중합체, 프로필렌단독중합체, 에틸렌/부텐 공중합체, 에틸렌/헥센 공중합체 및 에틸렌/메타크릴레이트 공중합체 등과 같은 폴리올레핀계 고분자로 제조한 다공성 고분자 필름 또는 이들의 2층 이상의 적층 구조체가 사용될 수 있다. 또 통상적인 다공성 부직포, 예를 들어 고융점의 유리 섬유, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 섬유 등으로 된 부직포가 사용될 수도 있다. 또, 내열성 또는 기계적 강도 확보를 위해 세라믹 성분 또는 고분자 물질이 포함된 코팅된 분리막이 사용될 수도 있으며, 선택적으로 단층 또는 다층 구조로 사용될 수 있다.
상기와 같은 본 발명에 따른 리튬 이차전지는 휴대전화, 노트북 컴퓨터, 디지털 카메라 등의 휴대용 기기, 및 하이브리드 전기자동차(hybrid electric vehicle, HEV) 등의 전기 자동차 분야 등에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
이에 따라, 본 발명의 다른 일 구현예에 따르면, 상기 리튬 이차전지를 단위 셀로 포함하는 전지 모듈 및 이를 포함하는 전지팩이 제공된다.
상기 전지모듈 또는 전지팩은 파워 툴(Power Tool); 전기자동차(Electric Vehicle, EV), 하이브리드 전기자동차, 및 플러그인 하이브리드 전기자동차(Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, PHEV)를 포함하는 전기차; 또는 전력 저장용 시스템 중 어느 하나 이상의 중대형 디바이스 전원으로 이용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 리튬 이차전지의 외형은 특별한 제한이 없으나, 캔을 사용한 원통형, 각형, 파우치(pouch)형 또는 코인(coin)형 등이 될 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 리튬 이차전지는 소형 디바이스의 전원으로 사용되는 전지셀에 사용될 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 다수의 전지셀들을 포함하는 중대형 전지모듈에 단위전지로도 바람직하게 사용될 수 있다.
이하, 구체적인 실시예를 통해 본 발명을 구체적으로 설명한다.
실시예
실시예 1
(비수 전해액 제조)
에틸렌 카보네이트(EC): 에틸메틸카보네이트(EMC)를 30:70의 부피비로 혼합한 비수성 유기 용매 99.5g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 0.5g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하였다.
(양극 제조)
양극 활물질 입자로 리튬 니켈-망간-알루미늄 산화물 (Li(Ni0.86Mn0.05Co0.07Al0.02)O2), 도전재로 카본 블랙 및 바인더로 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드 (PVDF)를 90:5:5의 중량 비율로 용제인 N-메틸-2-피롤리돈 (NMP)에 첨가하여 양극 활물질 슬러리 (고형분 48 중량%)를 제조하였다. 상기 양극 활물질 슬러리를 두께가 100㎛인 양극 집전체 (Al 박막)에 도포 및 건조한 후, 롤 프레스(roll press)를 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
(음극 제조)
음극 활물질 (인조 흑연:SiO = 94.5:5.5 중량비), 바인더로 PVDF, 도전재로 카본 블랙을 95:2:3의 중량 비율로 용제인 NMP에 첨가하여 음극 활물질 슬러리(고형분: 70 중량%를 제조하였다. 상기 음극 활물질 슬러리를 두께가 90㎛인 음극 집전체 (Cu 박막)에 도포 및 건조한 후, 롤 프레스를 실시하여 음극을 제조하였다.
(이차전지 제조)
전술한 방법으로 제조한 양극과 음극을 폴리에틸렌 다공성 필름과 함께 순차적으로 적층하는 통상적인 방법으로 전극 조립체를 제조한 다음, 이를 파우치형 이차전지 케이스에 수납하고, 상기에서 제조된 비수 전해액을 주입하여 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 2.
비수성 유기용매 99g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 1.0g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 3.
비수성 유기용매 99.9g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 0.1g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 4.
비수성 유기용매 98.5g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 1.5g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 5.
비수성 유기용매 98g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 2.0g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 6.
비수성 유기용매 97g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 3.0g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
실시예 7.
비수성 유기용매 96g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시킨 후, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 4.0g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.
비교예 1
에틸렌 카보네이트(EC): 에틸메틸카보네이트(EMC)를 30:70의 부피비로 혼합한 비수성 유기 용매 99.5g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시키고, 첨가제를 첨가하지 않고 비수 전해액을 제조한 점을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차 전지를 제조하였다.
비교예 2
비수성 유기 용매 99.5g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시키고, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 대신 하기 화학식 2로 표시되는 화합물 0.5g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.

비수성 유기 용매 99.5g에 LiPF6가 1.0M 및 LiFSI가 0.2M이 되도록 용해시키고, 첨가제로 화학식 1a로 표시되는 화합물 대신 하기 화학식 3로 표시되는 화합물 0.5g을 첨가하여 비수 전해액을 제조하는 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 리튬 이차전지를 제조하였다.

실험예
실험예 1: 비수 전해액의 이온전도도 평가
Probe 형태의 이온전도도 측정 장비를 이용하여 실시예 1 내지 7에서 제조된 비수 전해액에 대한 이온전도도를 측정하였다. 그 결과를 하기 표 1에 나타내었다.
실험예 2: 초기 저항 평가
상기 실시예 1 내지 7에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지를 각각 상온(25℃)에서 0.33C rate로 정전류/정전압 조건으로 4.2V까지 충전한 다음, DOD (depth of discharge) 50%까지 방전하여 SOC 50%를 맞춰준 후, 2.5C rate 조건으로 10초간 방전하고, PNE-0506 충방전기(제조사: PNE solution)를 사용하여 초기 저항을 측정하였다. 그 결과를 하기 표 1에 기재하였다.

상기 표 1을 살펴보면, 첨가제가 과량 포함된 실시예 7의 이차전지는 실시예 1 내지 6의 이차전지에 비해 초기 저항이 증가하는 반면 이온전도도는 감소하는 것을 알 수 있다. 이러한 결과에 의해, 실시예 7의 이차전지는 실시예 1 내지 6의 이차전지에 비해 안정한 내부 저항을 유지하기 어려우므로, 최종적으로 제조된 이차전지의 레이트 특성(rate performance)의 저하가 야기될 수 있다.
실험예 3. 고온 저장 후 특성 평가(1)
실시예 1 내지 6에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지와 비교예 1 내지 3에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지를 각각 상온(25℃)에서 0.33C rate로 정전류/정전압 조건하에서 4.2V, 50mA cut off까지 만충전 (SOC 100%)하고, 0.33C rate로 정전류 조건하에서 3V까지 방전한 다음, PNE-0506 충방전기(제조사: PNE solution)를 사용하여 고온 저장 전 방전 용량을 측정하였다.
그런 다음, 60℃에서 2 주간 저장한 후에 각각의 리튬 이차전지에 대한 고온 저장 후 용량을 측정한 다음, 하기 [식 1]을 이용하여 고온 용량 유지율(%)을 산출하였다. 그 결과를 하기 표 2에 기재하였다.

실험예 4. 고온 저장 후 특성 평가(1)
실시예 1 내지 6에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지와 비교예 1 내지 3에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지를 각각 상온(25℃)에서 0.33C rate로 정전류/정전압 조건으로 4.2V까지 충전한 다음, DOD (depth of discharge) 50%까지 방전하여 SOC 50%를 맞춰준 후, 2.5C rate 조건으로 10초간 방전하고, PNE-0506 충방전기(제조사: PNE solution)를 사용하여 초기 저항을 측정하였다.
그런 다음, 60℃에서 2 주간 저장한 후 리튬 이차전지의 저항을 측정하고, 하기 [식 2]를 이용하여 저항 증가율(%)를 계산하였다. 그 결과를 하기 표 2에 기재하였다.

상기 표 2를 살펴보면, 본 발명의 첨가제를 포함하는 비수 전해액을 구비한 실시예 1 내지 6의 리튬 이차전지는 첨가제를 포함하지 않은 비수 전해액을 구비한 비교예 1의 이차전지와, 첨가제로 화학식 2의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 2 및 첨가제로 화학식 3의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 3의 이차전지에 비해 고온 저장 후 용량 유지율 및 저항 증가율이 모두 개선된 것을 알 수 있다.
실험예 5: 고온 사이클 특성 평가
실시예 1 내지 6에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지와 비교예 1 내지 3에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지를 각각 45℃에서 0.33C rate로 정전류/정전압 조건하에서 4.2V까지 충전한 다음, 0.33C rate로 정전류 조건하에서 3V까지 방전하는 것을 1 사이클로 하여 50 사이클 충방전을 실시한 후 용량 유지율(%) 및 저항 증가율(%)을 측정하였다. 용량 유지율(%)은 하기 [식 3]에 따라 계산하였으며, 저항 증가율(%)은 하기 [식 4]에 따라 계산하였다. 측정 결과는 하기 표 3에 기재하였다.

상기 표 3을 살펴보면, 본 발명의 첨가제를 포함하는 비수 전해액을 구비한 실시예 1 내지 6의 리튬 이차전지는 첨가제를 사용하지 않은 비수 전해액을 비교예 1의 이차전지와, 첨가제로 화학식 2의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 2 및 첨가제로 화학식 3의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 3의 이차전지에 비해 고온 사이클 후 용량 유지율 및 저항 증가율이 모두 개선된 것을 알 수 있다.
실험예 6: 고온 저장 후 전압 강하율(%) 평가
실시예 1 내지 6에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지와 비교예 1 내지 3에서 제조된 리튬 이차전지를 각각 상온(25℃)에서 0.33C rate로 정전류/정전압 조건하에서 4.2V, 50 mA cut off까지 만충전 (SOC 100%)한 다음, PNE-0506 충방전기(제조사: PNE solution)를 사용하여 고온 저장 전 초기 전압 (4.2 V)을 측정하였다.
이어서, 72℃ 고온에서 60일 동안 저장한 다음, 전압 강하율(%)을 평가하였다. 전압 강하율(%)은 하기 [식 5]에 따라 계산하였다. 측정 결과는 하기 표 4에 기재하였다.

상기 전압 강하란, 양극으로부터 용출된 전이금속이 음극쪽에서 환원되면서 전자를 소모하거나, 음극 상에 피막(SEI)이 제대로 형성되지 않은 경우에 전해액이 쉽게 환원 분해되면서 음극 전압을 높여 풀 셀의 전압을 떨어뜨리는 현상을 의미한다.
상기 표 4를 살펴보면, 본 발명의 첨가제를 포함하는 비수 전해액을 구비한 실시예 1 내지 6의 리튬 이차전지의 경우, 첨가제를 사용하지 않은 비수 전해액을 구비한 비교예 1의 이차전지와, 첨가제로 화학식 2의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 2 및 첨가제로 화학식 3의 화합물을 포함하는 비수전해액을 구비한 비교예 3의 이차전지에 비해, 고온 저장 후 전압 강하율(%)이 모두 개선된 것을 알 수 있다.
Claims (10)
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 화학식 1에서, X는 S이고, R은 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 3의 알킬기 또는 N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 3의 알킬기임)인 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 화학식 1에서, X는 S이고, R은 N(R1)2 (상기 R1은 수소 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 탄소수 1 내지 5의 알킬기임)인 것인 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제.
- 청구항 1의 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제를 포함하는 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제는 비수 전해액 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.05 중량% 내지 3 중량%로 포함되는 것인 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액.
- 청구항 6에 있어서,상기 이차전지용 전해액 첨가제는 비수 전해액 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.1 중량% 내지 3 중량%로 포함되는 것인 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액은 리튬염 및 유기용매를 더 포함하는 것인 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 비수 전해액은 환형 카보네이트계 화합물, 할로겐 치환된 카보네이트계 화합물, 설톤계 화합물, 설페이트계 화합물, 포스페이트계 화합물, 보레이트계 화합물, 니트릴계 화합물, 아민계 화합물, 실란계 화합물 및 리튬염계 화합물로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 적어도 하나 이상의 기타 첨가제를 추가로 포함하는 것인 리튬 이차전지용 비수전해액.
- 양극; 음극; 상기 음극 및 양극 사이에 개재되는 분리막; 및청구항 5의 리튬 이차전지용 비수 전해액을 포함하는 리튬 이차전지.
