본 출원은 2020년 04월 29일자 한국 특허 출원 제10-2020-0052259호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국 특허 출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용은 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함된다.
본 발명은 전지팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스에 관한 것으로서, 보다 구체적으로 안전성이 향상된 전지팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스에 관한 것이다.
제품군에 따른 적용 용이성이 높고, 높은 에너지 밀도 등의 전기적 특성을 가지는 이차 전지는 휴대용 기기뿐만 아니라 전기적 구동원에 의해 구동하는 전기 자동차 또는 하이브리드 자동차, 전력 저장 장치 등에 보편적으로 응용되고 있다. 이러한 이차 전지는 화석 연료의 사용을 획기적으로 감소시킬 수 있다는 일차적인 장점뿐만 아니라 에너지의 사용에 따른 부산물이 전혀 발생되지 않는다는 점에서 친환경 및 에너지 효율성 제고를 위한 새로운 에너지원으로 주목 받고 있다.
현재 상용화된 이차 전지로는 니켈 카드뮴 전지, 니켈 수소 전지, 니켈 아연 전지, 리튬 이차 전지 등이 있는데, 이 중에서 리튬 이차 전지는 니켈 계열의 이차 전지에 비해 메모리 효과가 거의 일어나지 않아 충, 방전이 자유롭고, 자가 방전률이 매우 낮으며 에너지 밀도가 높은 장점으로 각광을 받고 있다.
이러한 리튬 이차 전지는 주로 리튬계 산화물과 탄소재를 각각 양극 활물질과 음극 활물질로 사용한다. 리튬 이차 전지는, 이러한 양극 활물질과 음극 활물질이 각각 도포된 양극판과 음극판이 세퍼레이터를 사이에 두고 배치된 전극 조립체와, 전극 조립체를 전해액과 함께 밀봉 수납하는 외장재, 즉 전지 케이스를 구비한다.
일반적으로 리튬 이차 전지는 외장재의 형상에 따라, 전극 조립체가 금속 캔에 내장되어 있는 원통형 또는 각형 이차 전지와, 전극 조립체가 알루미늄 라미네이트 시트의 파우치에 내장되어 있는 파우치형 이차 전지로 분류될 수 있다.
최근 이차 전지의 에너지 저장원으로서의 활용을 비롯하여 대용량 이차 전지 구조에 대한 필요성이 높아지면서, 다수의 이차 전지가 직렬 또는 병렬로 연결된 전지 모듈을 집합시킨 중대형 모듈 구조의 전지팩에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 전지 모듈은 다수의 전지 셀이 서로 직렬 또는 병렬로 연결되어 전지셀 적층체를 형성함으로써 용량 및 출력이 향상된다. 또한, 복수의 전지 모듈은 BMS(Battery Management System), 냉각 시스템 등의 각종 제어 및 보호 시스템과 함께 장착되어 전지팩을 형성할 수 있다.
전지팩은 다수의 전지 모듈들이 조합된 구조로 이루어져 있어서, 일부 전지모듈들이 과전압, 과전류 또는 과발열 되는 경우에는 전지팩의 안전성과 작동효율이 문제될 수 있다. 특히 주행거리 향상을 위하여 전지팩 용량은 점차 증가되는 추세이고, 그에 따라 팩 내부 에너지도 증가되는 가운데서 강화되는 안전성 기준을 만족하고 차량 및 운전자의 안전성 확보를 위한 구조의 설계가 필요하다. 이를 위하여 특히 내부의 열 폭주 등을 미연에 방지하고, 발생하더라도 그 피해를 최소화할 수 있는 구조의 필요성이 대두되고 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제는, 안전성이 향상된 전지팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스를 제공하기 위한 것이다.
그러나, 본 발명의 실시예들이 해결하고자 하는 과제는 상술한 과제에 한정되지 않고 본 발명에 포함된 기술적 사상의 범위에서 다양하게 확장될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지팩은 복수의 전지 모듈, 상기 복수의 전지 모듈의 가장자리를 따라 배치되는 벤팅 유도 프레임, 및 상기 복수의 전지 모듈 및 상기 벤팅 유도 프레임을 수납하는 하우징을 포함하고, 상기 벤팅 유도 프레임 내부에 적어도 하나의 소염 부재가 위치한다.
상기 벤팅 유도 프레임은 제1 방향에 평행하게 형성된 한 쌍의 수직 빔(beam) 및 상기 제1 방향과 교차하는 제2 방향에 평행하게 형성된 한 쌍의 수평 빔(beam)을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 수직 빔은 상기 수직 빔의 길이 방향을 따라 형성된 제1 커버와 상기 제1 커버에 의해 둘러싸여 벤팅 물질이 지나갈 수 있도록 형성된 제1 통로를 포함하는 관 형상이고, 상기 수평 빔은 상기 수평 빔의 길이 방향을 따라 형성된 제2 커버와, 상기 제2 커버에 의해 둘러싸여 가스가 지나갈 수 있도록 형성된 제2 통로를 포함하는 관 형상일 수 있다.
상기 소염 부재는 제1 소염 부재 및 제2 소염 부재를 포함하고, 상기 제1 통로는 적어도 하나의 제1 소염 부재가 배치되고, 상기 제2 통로는 적어도 하나의 제2 소염 부재가 배치될 수 있다.
상기 적어도 하나의 제1 소염 부재는 상기 제1 방향에 따라 이격되어 위치할 수 있다.
상기 제1 통로에 배치된 제1 소염 부재의 개수가 상기 제2 통로에 배치된 제2 소염 부재의 개수보다 같거나 많을 수 있다.
상기 제2 소염 부재에 도포된 소염 물질의 양이 상기 제1 소염 부재에 도포된 소염 물질의 양보다 많을 수 있다.
상기 전지 모듈은, 복수의 전지셀이 적층되어 있는 전지셀 적층체와 상기 전지셀 적층체를 수납하는 모듈 프레임, 상기 모듈 프레임의 전후면으로 노출된 상기 전지셀 적층체를 덮는 엔드 플레이트, 및 상기 엔드 플레이트에 상기 전지 모듈 내부와 연통하는 적어도 하나의 벤팅 게이트를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 수평빔은 상기 벤팅 게이트와 서로 연통하여 연결되는 제1 연결홀을 포함하고, 상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결홀에 인접하게 위치할 수 있다.
상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결 홀보다 같거나 큰 크기를 가지고, 상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결홀과 대응되는 위치에서 상기 제1 연결홀과 상기 제2 소염 부재 사이가 밀폐되도록 결합될 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 일 실시예에 따른 디바이스는, 상기에서 설명한 전지팩을 포함한다.
실시예들에 따르면, 전지팩 내부에 벤팅 유도 구조를 형성함으로써, 전지셀의 이상 현상 발생 시, 벤팅 가스를 일정한 방향으로 유도하여 전지팩의 안전성을 향상시킬 수 있다.

이하, 첨부한 도면을 참고로 하여 본 발명의 여러 실시예들에 대하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 상세히 설명한다. 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예들에 한정되지 않는다.
본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 동일 또는 유사한 구성요소에 대해서는 동일한 참조 부호를 붙이도록 한다.
또한, 도면에서 나타난 각 구성의 크기 및 두께는 설명의 편의를 위해 임의로 나타내었으므로, 본 발명이 반드시 도시된 바에 한정되지 않는다. 도면에서 여러 층 및 영역을 명확하게 표현하기 위하여 두께를 확대하여 나타내었다. 그리고 도면에서, 설명의 편의를 위해, 일부 층 및 영역의 두께를 과장되게 나타내었다.

도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지팩을 나타내는 분해 사시도이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)은, 복수의 전지 모듈(100)과, 복수의 전지 모듈(100)의 가장자리를 따라 배치된 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)을 포함한다. 복수의 전지 모듈(100)과 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)은 팩 트레이(200) 상에 장착되어 팩 하우징(400) 내에 수납될 수 있다. 팩 하우징(400)은 팩 트레이(200)를 수용하는 하부 하우징(410)과, 하부 하우징(410)에 결합하여 전지 모듈(100)의 상부를 덮는 상부 커버(420)를 포함할 수 있다.
복수의 전지 모듈(100)은 각각 모듈 프레임(110) 내에 배치된 전지셀 적층체(미도시)를 포함하며, 모듈 프레임(110)의 양 단부로 노출된 전지셀 적층체를 커버하는 엔드 플레이트(120)를 포함한다. 이 때, 양측 엔드 플레이트(120) 중 어느 한 쪽에는, 전지 모듈(100) 내부와 연통하여 내측에서 발생할 수 있는 화염 내지 열을 방출할 수 있는 벤팅 게이트(121)를 포함한다. 전지팩(1000) 내에서, 이러한 벤팅 게이트(121)는 전지팩(1000)의 외측을 향하도록 배치되며, 바람직하게는 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이 전지팩(1000)에서 제1 방향(x축 방향)의 양 단부를 향해 외측을 바라보도록 배치될 수 있다.
복수의 전지 모듈(100) 전체의 가장자리를 따라서는 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)이 배치될 수 있다. 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)은 전지팩(1000)의 각 변을 따라 관 형상으로 형성되고, 각각 제1 방향(x축 방향)과 제2 방향(y축 방향)을 따라 연장된 한 쌍의 수직 빔(310)과 한 쌍의 수평 빔(320)을 포함할 수 있고, 이들은 전체로서 연통할 수 있도록 형성된다. 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)의 상세한 구성은 후술하기로 한다.
복수의 전지 모듈(100)과 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)은 팩 트레이(200) 상에 장착될 수 있고, 필요에 따라 고정 수단에 의해 팩 트레이(200)에 고정될 수 있다. 전지 모듈(100), 벤팅 유도 프레임(300), 및 팩 트레이(200)는 하부 하우징(410) 내에 수납될 수 있다. 하부 하우징(410)은 팩 트레이(200)가 배치되는 바닥면과, 바닥면의 가장자리로부터 상부를 향해 연장된 측벽을 포함하여 구성될 수 있다. 하부 하우징(410)에는 전지 모듈(100)의 상부를 덮는 상부 커버(420)가 결합되어 내부의 전장을 보호할 수 있다. 이 때, 팩 하우징(400) 내부에는 전지 모듈(100)과 함께 BMS(Battery Management System), 냉각 시스템 등의 각종 제어 및 보호 시스템이 장착될 수 있다.
하부 하우징(410)의 일 측벽에는, 내부에서 발생한 열 또는 화염을 외측으로 배출할 수 있는 적어도 하나의 파열부(500)가 형성될 수 있다. 파열부(500)의 상세한 구성은 후술하기로 한다.
이하, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지팩의 벤팅 유도 프레임에 대해 보다 상세히 설명한다.
도 2는 도 1의 전지팩에서 벤팅 유도 프레임의 분해 사시도이다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)은 전지팩(1000)의 각 변을 따라 관 형상으로 형성되고, 각각 제1 방향(x축 방향)과 제2 방향(y축 방향)을 따라 연장된 한 쌍의 수직 빔(310)과 한 쌍의 수평 빔(320)을 포함할 수 있고, 이들은 전체로서 연통할 수 있도록 형성된다.
수직 빔(310)은 제1 방향(x축 방향)을 따라 길게 연장된 관 형상을 가지며, 이 때 관 형상 내부를 정의하는 커버(311)와, 커버(311) 내측에 형성된 통로(312)를 포함한다. 커버(311)는 제2 방향(y축 방향)에서 전지 모듈(100)에 인접하여 배치되는 제1 내측 커버(311a)와, 이와 대향하여 제2 방향(y축 방향)에서 전지 모듈(100)로부터 멀어지는 측에 배치된 제1 외측 커버(311b)를 포함할 수 있다. 제1 내측 커버(311a)와 제1 외측 커버(311b) 중 적어도 어느 하나는, 상기 제1 방향을 따라 길게 형성된 홈을 포함한다. 즉, 단면이 "ㄷ"자 형상을 갖도록 형성(사각 관 형상에서 어느 일 면이 제거된 형상으로 형성)되어, 여기에 나머지 하나의 커버가 결합하는 것에 의해 통로(312)가 정의될 수 있다. 다만, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니고, 커버(311)에 의해 관 형상이 얻어질 수 있다면 특별히 한정되는 것은 아니다.
수평 빔(320)은 제2 방향(y축 방향)을 따라 길게 연장된 관 형상을 가지며, 이 때 관 형상 내부를 정의하는 커버(321)와, 커버(321) 내측에 형성된 통로(322)를 포함한다. 커버(321)는 제1 방향(x축 방향)에서 전지 모듈(100)에 인접하여 배치되는 제2 내측 커버(321a)와, 이와 대향하여 제1 방향(x축 방향)에서 전지 모듈(100)로부터 멀어지는 측에 배치된 제2 외측 커버(321b)를 포함할 수 있다. 제2 내측 커버(321a)와 제2 외측 커버(321b) 중 적어도 어느 하나는, 제2 방향을 따라 길게 형성된 홈을 포함한다. 즉, 단면이 "ㄷ"자 형상을 갖도록 형성(사각 관 형상에서 어느 일 면이 제거된 형상으로 형성)되어, 여기에 나머지 하나의 커버가 결합하는 것에 의해 통로(322)를 정의할 수 있다. 특히, 본 실시예에서는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 제2 내측 커버(321a)와 제2 외측 커버(321b) 모두가 단면이 "ㄷ"자 형상을 갖도록 형성될 수 있으며, 이에 의해 수평 빔(320)이 조립되었을 때 강도를 향상시킬 수 있다. 다만, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니고, 커버(321)에 의해 관 형상이 얻어질 수 있다면 특별히 한정되는 것은 아니다.
수평 빔(320)은 전지 모듈(100)과 대향하는 면, 즉 제2 내측 커버(321a)의 일면에 형성된 제1 연결홀(324)을 포함한다. 제1 연결홀(324)은 앞서 설명한 전지 모듈(100)의 벤팅 게이트(121)와 연통하도록 배치된다. 또한, 수평 빔(320)은 전지 모듈(100)로부터 제2 방향으로 멀어지는 방향에 배치된 면, 즉 제2 외측 커버(321b)의 일면에 형성된 제3 연결홀(326)을 더욱 포함한다. 제3 연결홀(326)은 파열부(500)와 통로(322)가 연통할 수 있도록 배치된다. 이때, 벤팅 게이트(121), 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322), 및 파열부(500)가 연통하는 경로를 가이드 할 수 있도록 벤팅 경로 브라켓(328)이 파열부(500)를 수평 빔(320)에 결합할 수 있다.
수직 빔(310)은 수평 빔(320)과 인접하는 양 단부에서, 제1 내측 커버(311a)에 형성된 제2 연결홀(314)을 포함한다. 제2 연결홀(314)에 의해, 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322)와, 수직 빔(310)의 통로(312)가 연통할 수 있다.
파열부(500)는 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322)와 연결되어 있고, 유입되는 가스의 압력이 일정 압력 이상이 될 경우 파열되도록 구성된 파열면(510, 도 5b에 도시)을 포함한다. 또한, 파열면(510)이 형성된 본체로부터 돌출되어, 하부 하우징(410)의 측벽과 결합할 수 있도록 구성된 날개부(520, 도 5b에 도시)를 포함한다. 날개부(520)는 나사 등의 체결 수단을 통해 하부 하우징(410)에 고정될 수 있다. 본 실시예에서는, 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322)와 연결되며, 또한 수평 빔(320)과 하부 하우징(410)을 사이에 두고 파열부(500)가 고정되어 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않고, 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)의 통로와 연통하여 외측으로 배출이 가능하도록 하는 구성이라면 적절하게 채용될 수 있다. 또한, 본 실시예에서는, 한 쌍의 수평 빔(320)의 어느 한 쪽에만 2개의 파열부(500)가 형성된 것을 예시하였으나, 이에 한정되지 않고 다른 쪽 수평 빔(320)에도 파열부(500)가 구비되거나, 또는 수직 빔(310)에 구비되어도 좋으며, 필요에 따라 적절하게 그 위치 및 개수를 선택할 수 있다.
도 2를 참조하면, 본 실시예는 전술한 구성뿐 아니라, 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내에 적어도 하나의 소염 부재(330)가 배치될 수 있다. 소염 부재(330)는 수직빔(310)의 통로(312) 및 수평빔(320)의 통로(322) 중 하나의 내부에 배치될 수 있다. 소염 부재(330)는 수직빔(310)의 통로(312) 및 수평빔(320)의 통로(322)에 의해 형성되는 벤팅 유도 경로를 따라 배치될 수 있다. 소염 부재(300)의 상세한 구성은 후술하기로 한다.
이상의 구성에 의해, 수직 빔(310)과 수평 빔(320)으로 이루어진 사각 형상의 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)의 내부에서 통로가 전체로 연통하도록 형성되며, 이러한 통로는 전지 모듈(100)의 벤팅 게이트(121) 및 파열부(500)와 연통하여, 전지 모듈(100)로부터 열 폭주 등이 발생할 경우 발열 및 화염을 외측으로 유도하여 주변 전지 모듈에의 영향을 최소화할 수 있다. 이 때, 발생한 고압의 벤팅 가스에 포함된 화염은, 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부의 경로를 지나면서 모두 연소되어 보다 안전한 상태로 외부로 배출될 수 있다. 또한, 이러한 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)은 열 폭주 발생시가 아닌 평소에는, 전지 모듈(100)을 안정적으로 지지하는 지지 프레임으로 작용하여, 전지팩(1000)의 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
이하, 전지팩 내의 일부 전지 모듈에서 과전압, 과전류 또는 과발열 등의 이슈가 발생했을 경우 이를 제어하는 경로에 대해 설명한다.
도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지 팩의 일부 모듈에서 열폭주가 발생한 경우 전달 경로를 모식화하여 도시한 도면이다. 도 4는 도 3의 IV 부분을 확대하여 도시한 도면이다. 도 5a 및 도 5b는 도 3의 V 부분을 확대하여 도시한 도면이다.
도 1 내지 5를 참조하면, 전지 모듈(100) 내에서 과전압, 과전류 또는 과발열 등의 이상 현상(열 이슈)이 발생할 경우, 전지 모듈(100) 내부로부터 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 고압의 벤팅 가스가 방출된다. 이 때, 열 이슈가 발생한 전지 모듈(100)의 벤팅 게이트(121)와 가장 가까이 위치하는 제1 연결홀(324)로, 고온, 고압의 가스 및 화염이 유도된다. 제1 연결홀(324)을 통해 유입된 고온, 고압의 가스와 화염은 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)에 형성된 통로를 따라 외측으로 방출될 수 있다.
예를 들면, 도 3에서 1번 위치에 배치된 전지 모듈(100)에서 열 이슈가 발생할 경우, 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이 고압의 가스와 화염은 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 방출되어, 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322)를 거쳐 파열부(500)측으로 직접 유도되어 외부로 방출될 수 있다. 이에 의해 1번 위치의 전지 모듈(100)에서 발생한 열 이슈는 주변 모듈에 영향을 주지 않고 외측으로 방출될 수 있다.
또한, 도 3에서 2번 위치에 배치된 전지 모듈(100)에서 열 이슈가 발생할 경우, 도 5a 및 도 5b에 도시된 바와 같이 고온, 고압의 가스와 화염은 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 방출되어, 수평 빔(320)의 통로(322)로 유입된다. 이어서 제2 연결홀(314)를 통해 수직 빔(310)의 통로(312)로 유입되고, 해당 통로(312)를 따라 이동한 고온, 고압의 가스와 화염은, 해당 수직 빔(310)의 반대측 단부에 형성된 제2 연결홀(314)을 통해, 파열부(500)가 위치한 측의 수평 빔(320)으로 유도되어 최종적으로 파열부(500)를 통해 외측으로 방출될 수 있다. 즉, 전지 모듈(100)에서 열 이슈가 발생하면, 해당 전지 모듈(100)의 벤팅 게이트(121)와 가장 가까이 위치하는 제1 연결홀(324)을 통해 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)의 통로로 고온, 고압의 가스와 화염이 유도되고, 최종적으로 외측으로 방출될 수 있는 것이다.
도 6은 도 1의 전지팩에 포함된 전지 모듈을 나타내는 사시도이다. 도 7은 도 6의 전지 모듈을 z축 방향으로 아래에서 위로 바라본 사시도이다.
도 6 및 도 7을 참고하면, 도 1의 전지팩에 포함된 전지 모듈(100)은 복수의 전지셀(101)이 적층된 전지셀 적층체(102), 전지셀 적층체(102)를 수납하는 모듈 프레임(108) 및 엔드 플레이트(120)를 포함할 수 있다. 복수의 전지셀(101)은 상호 전기적으로 연결될 수 있도록 적층되어 전지셀 적층체(102)를 형성한다. 특히, 도 6에 도시된 바와 같이 y축과 평행한 방향을 따라 복수의 전지셀(101)이 적층될 수 있다.
이 때, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지셀 적층체(102)는 전지셀(101)의 개수가 종래 보다 많아지는 대면적 모듈일 수 있다. 일례로, 전지 모듈(100) 당 48개의 전지셀(101)이 포함될 수 있다. 이러한 대면적 모듈의 경우, 전지 모듈의 수평 방향 길이가 길어지게 된다. 여기서, 수평 방향 길이란, 전지셀(101)이 적층된 방향, 즉 y축과 평행한 방향으로의 길이를 의미할 수 있다.
전지셀 적층체(102)를 수납하는 모듈 프레임(108)은 상부 플레이트(112) 및 하부 프레임(111)을 포함할 수 있다. 하부 프레임(111)은 U자형 프레임일 수 있다. 상기 U자형 프레임은 바닥부 및 상기 바닥부의 양 단부에서 상향 연장된 2개의 측면부를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 바닥부는 전지셀 적층체(102)의 하면(z축 반대 방향)을 커버할 수 있고, 상기 측면부는 전지셀 적층체(102)의 양 측면(y축 방향과 그 반대 방향)을 커버할 수 있다.
상부 플레이트(112)는 상기 U자형 프레임에 의해 감싸지는 상기 하면 및 상기 양 측면을 제외한 나머지 상면(z축 방향)을 감싸는 하나의 판상형 구조로 형성될 수 있다. 상부 플레이트(112)와 하부 프레임(111)은 서로 대응하는 모서리 부위들이 접촉된 상태에서, 용접 등에 의해 결합됨으로써, 전지셀 적층체(102)를 상하좌우로 커버하는 구조를 형성할 수 있다. 상부 플레이트(112)와 하부 프레임(111)을 통해 전지셀 적층체(102)를 물리적으로 보호할 수 있다. 이를 위해 상부 플레이트(112)와 하부 프레임(111)은 소정의 강도를 갖는 금속 재질을 포함할 수 있다.
본 실시예에 따른 엔드 플레이트(120)에는, 앞서 설명한 것처럼 전지 모듈(100) 내부와 연통하여 내측에서 발생할 수 있는 화염 내지 열을 방출할 수 있는 벤팅 게이트(121)가 형성되어 있다. 벤팅 게이트(121)는 정보 전달을 위한 커넥터 연결부를 고려하여 엔드 플레이트(120)의 하측에 형성될 수 있다.
본 실시예에 따른 모듈 프레임(108)은, 모듈 프레임(108)의 바닥부가 연장되어 엔드 플레이트(120)를 지나도록 형성된 모듈 프레임 돌출부(131)를 포함할 수 있다. 이때, 모듈 프레임 돌출부(131)의 상면부와 연결되는 냉각 포트(140)에 의해 유입 및 배출되는 냉매가, 모듈 프레임 돌출부(131)를 통해 히트 싱크(130)로 공급 및 히트 싱크(130)로부터 배출될 수 있다.
도 8은 도 2의 A 영역을 확대하여 도시한 도면이다.
이하, 전지팩 내의 일부 전지 모듈에서 과전압, 과전류 또는 과발열 등의 이슈가 발생했을 경우, 본 실시예에 따른 소염 부재(330)를 중심으로 이를 제어하는 경로에 대해 설명한다.
도 8을 참조하면, 소염 부재(330)는 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부에 배치될 수 있다. 전지 모듈(100) 내부로부터 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 배출된 벤팅 물질 중 적어도 일부는 소염 부재(330)를 통과할 수 있다. 여기서, 상기 벤팅 물질은 고온, 고압의 가스 및 화염 중 적어도 하나를 포함한다. 특히, 소염 부재(330)는 열 이슈가 발생한 전지 모듈(100)에서 배출된 상기 벤팅 물질 중 화염이 외부로 배출되는 것을 차단한다. 즉, 소염 부재(330)는 전지 모듈(100) 내부로부터 배출된 벤팅 물질 중에서도 화염을 제거하고, 이에 따라 전지팩(1000)은 화염이 제거된 가스가 외부로 배출될 수 있다.
여기서, 소염 부재(330)는 망 또는 관(파이프)과 같은 구조를 가질 수 있어, 전지 모듈(100) 내부로부터 배출된 상기 벤팅 물질 중 고온 고압의 가스는 소염 부재(330)를 거쳐 외부로 배출되되, 상기 벤팅 물질 중에서도 화염은 소염 부재(330)에 의해 여과되어 제거될 수 있다. 이에 따라, 소염 부재(330)는 전지 팩(1000) 내부에서 화염이 확산되는 것을 차단하여, 전지 팩(1000) 내부의 가스캣(gasket)을 녹이는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 또한, 소염 부재(330)는 전지팩 외부로 화염이 분출되는 추가 이벤트가 발생되는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 다만, 소염 부재(330)는 상술한 구조로 한정되는 것은 아니며, 상기 벤팅 물질 중 화염은 제거하고 가스는 통과시키는 구조라면 제한되지 않는다.
또한, 소염 부재(330)는 도 6의 전지셀(101)이 포함하는 구성 물질에 따라 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부에 배치되는 소염 부재(330)의 개수가 조절되거나, 소염 부재를 구성하는 물질이 변경될 수 있다.
일 예로, 도 6의 전지셀(101)이 포함하는 구성 물질이 열 이슈가 발생되었을 때 배출되는 화염의 세기나 온도가 상대적으로 높은 경우에는 소염 부재(330)가 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부에 상대적으로 많은 개수로 배치되거나, 소염 부재(330)에 소염 물질이 상대적으로 많이 도포되어 있을 수 있다. 이와 반대로, 전지셀(101)이 포함하는 구성 물질이 열 이슈가 발생되었을 때 배출되는 화염의 세기나 온도가 상대적으로 낮은 경우에는 소염 부재(330)가 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부에 상대적으로 적은 개수로 배치되거나, 소염 부재(330)에 소염 물질이 상대적으로 적게 도포되어 있을 수 있다. 바람직하게는, 화염의 세기나 온도에 따라 소염 부재(330)의 개수를 조절하는 것이 제조 공정 및 제조 시간을 고려할 때, 보다 간이하고 용이하게 수행될 수 있다.
도 9는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지팩에서 이상 현상 발생 시 벤팅 물질의 흐름을 나타내는 개략도이다. 도 10은 비교예에 따른 전지팩에서 이상 현상 발생 시 벤팅 물질의 흐름을 나타내는 개략도이다.
도 9 및 도 10에서, a는 가스의 흐름, b는 화염의 흐름, CE는 셀 이벤트(Cell event)를 의미한다. 일 예로, 셀 이벤트(CE)는 전지 모듈(100) 내에서 과전압, 과전류 또는 과발열 등의 이상 현상(열 이슈)이 발생되어, 전지 모듈(100) 내부로부터 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 고압의 벤팅 가스가 방출되는 것을 의미한다.
또한, 본 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)은 소염 부재(330)가 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)을 구성하는 수직빔(310) 및 수평 빔(320) 중 적어도 하나에 배치될 수 있다. 또한, 소염 부재(330)는 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)을 구성하는 수직빔(310) 및 수평 빔(320)에 적어도 하나씩 각각 배치될 수 있다. 이에 따라, 전지팩(1000)은 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)에 의해 유도된 벤팅 물질의 경로에 소염 부재(330)가 포함되어, 화염이 제거된 벤팅 가스가 외부로 배출되고, 전지팩(1000)의 안전성이 보다 높아질 수 있다.
일 예로, 도 2, 도 8 및 도 9를 참조하면, 소염 부재(330)는 제1 소염 부재(331) 및 제2 소염 부재(335)를 포함할 수 있다. 여기서, 제1 소염 부재(331)는 수직빔(310) 내부에 위치하는 소염 부재이고, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 수평빔(320) 내부에 위치하는 소염 부재다.
수직빔(310)은 적어도 하나의 제1 소염 부재(331)를 포함하고, 복수의 제1 소염 부재(331)가 포함되는 경우 복수의 제1 소염 부재(331)는 소정의 간격으로 이격되어 배치될 수 있다. 또한, 수직빔(310)은 수평빔(320)에 비해 상대적으로 많은 개수의 제1 소염 부재(331)를 포함할 수 있어, 수직빔(310)에서 화염이 수평빔(320)에 비해 효과적으로 제거될 수 있다. 또한, 제1 소염 부재(331)는 셀 이벤트(CE)가 발생한 위치에서 점차적으로 멀어지는 위치에 있을수록 소염 물질의 도포량이 적거나, 크기가 작거나, 제1 소염 부재(331) 간의 간격이 넓어질 수 있어, 전지 팩(1000)의 제조 비용이 줄어들고, 제조 공정 또한 간이해질 수 있다.
수평빔(320)은 적어도 하나의 제2 소염 부재(335)를 포함하고, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 전지 모듈(100)의 벤팅 게이트(121)에 인접하게 위치할 수 있다. 또한, 도 2를 참조하면, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 제1 연결홀(324)에 비해 같거나 큰 크기를 가질 수 있고, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 제1 연결홀(324)과 대응되는 위치에 결합되되, 상기 제1 연결홀과 상기 제2 소염 부재 사이가 밀폐되도록 결합될 수 있다.
이에 따라, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 전지 모듈(100)의 셀 이벤트(CE)에 의해 발생된 화염이 배출되는 양을 줄일 수 있다. 또한, 이에 따라, 벤팅 게이트(121)와 수평빔(320) 사이에 화염이 누출되지 않을 수 있다. 또한, 이에 따라, 벤팅 게이트(121)와 수평빔(320) 사이의 영역이 전지 모듈(100)의 셀 이벤트(CE)에 의해 발생된 화염으로 인해 녹는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 셀 이벤트(CE)가 발생한 위치에서 가장 인접한위치에 있어, 제1 소염 부재(331)에 비해 소염 물질의 도포량이 많거나, 크기가 클 수 있다. 이에 따라, 제2 소염 부재(335)는 제1 소염 부재(331)에 비해 보다 많은 양의 화염을 제거할 수 있고, 전지 팩(1000)은 보다 높은 안정성을 확보할 수 있다.
도 9를 참조하면, 본 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)에서는 최초 전지셀에서 셀 이벤트(CE)이 발생하면, 도 7 및 도 8에 도시된 전지셀(101)로부터 벤팅 가스가 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 전지 모듈(100) 외부로 방출된다. 특히, 본 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)은 전지 모듈(100)에서 발생된 벤팅 물질이 벤팅 게이트(121)를 통해 배출되되, 가스 및 화염이 서로 다르게 통제될 수 있다.
상기 벤팅 물질 중 가스는 도 9에서 점선으로 표시된 제1 흐름(a)에 따라 벤팅 게이트(121)로부터 파열부(500)로 흐를 수 있다. 이 때, 가스는 소염 부재(330)를 통과하여 흐를 수 있어, 가스로 인한 압력이 증가함에 따라 발생되는 폭발 사고를 방지할 수 있다.
상기 벤팅 물질 중 화염은 도 9에서 점선으로 표시된 제2 흐름(b)에 따라 벤팅 게이트(121)로부터 파열부(500)로 흐르는 것이 차단될 수 있다. 이 때, 화염은 소염 부재(330)를 통과함에 따라 흐르는 양이 점차적으로 감소할 수 있다. 이에 따라, 전지 모듈(100)에서 셀 이벤트(CE)로 인해 발생된 벤팅 물질 중 화염을 선택적으로 제거할 수 있다. 또한, 화염이 벤팅 유도 프레임(300) 내부로 흐르도록 유도하면서도, 화염의 흐름 경로(b) 상에 소염 부재를 배치함에 따라, 화염을 보다 효과적으로 제거할 수 있다.
따라서, 본 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)은 벤팅 유도 프레임(300)에 적어도 하나의 소염 부재(330)를 포함하여, 전지팩(1000) 내부의 벤팅 가스가 통제됨과 동시에 화염을 선택적으로 제거함에 따라 안전성이 매우 높아질 수 있다.
도 10을 참고하면, 종래의 전지팩(20)에서는 본 발명의 실시예들에 따른 벤팅 유도부, 벤팅 게이트 및 벤팅 유도 프레임 등의 시스템이 없어 전지 모듈(10)에서 발생한 벤팅 가스 및 화염이 산발적으로 배출될 수 있다. 이와 달리, 전술하였뜻이, 본 실시예에 따른 전지팩(1000)은 벤팅 가스 및 화염을 일정한 경로로 나오도록 유도하면서, 화염이 제거된 가스만을 외부로 배출시킬 수 있어, 안전성이 보다 높고, 추가 셀 이벤트가 발생되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
앞에서 설명한 전지 모듈 및 이를 포함하는 전지팩은 다양한 디바이스에 적용될 수 있다. 이러한 디바이스에는, 전기 자전거, 전기 자동차, 하이브리드 자동차 등의 운송 수단에 적용될 수 있으나, 본 발명은 이에 제한되지 않고 전지 모듈 및 이를 포함하는 전지팩을 사용할 수 있는 다양한 디바이스에 적용 가능하며, 이 또한 본 발명의 권리범위에 속한다.
이상에서 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예에 대하여 상세하게 설명하였지만 본 발명의 권리범위는 이에 한정되는 것은 아니고 다음의 청구범위에서 정의하고 있는 본 발명의 기본 개념을 이용한 당업자의 여러 변형 및 개량 형태 또한 본 발명의 권리범위에 속하는 것이다.

Claims (11)

  1. 복수의 전지 모듈,
    상기 복수의 전지 모듈의 가장자리를 따라 배치되는 벤팅 유도 프레임, 및
    상기 복수의 전지 모듈 및 상기 벤팅 유도 프레임을 수납하는 하우징을 포함하고,
    상기 벤팅 유도 프레임 내부에 적어도 하나의 소염 부재가 위치하는 전지팩.
  2. 제1항에서,
    상기 벤팅 유도 프레임은 제1 방향에 평행하게 형성된 한 쌍의 수직 빔(beam) 및 상기 제1 방향과 교차하는 제2 방향에 평행하게 형성된 한 쌍의 수평 빔(beam)을 포함하는 전지팩.
  3. 제2항에서,
    상기 수직 빔은 상기 수직 빔의 길이 방향을 따라 형성된 제1 커버와 상기 제1 커버에 의해 둘러싸여 벤팅 물질이 지나갈 수 있도록 형성된 제1 통로를 포함하는 관 형상이고,
    상기 수평 빔은 상기 수평 빔의 길이 방향을 따라 형성된 제2 커버와, 상기 제2 커버에 의해 둘러싸여 가스가 지나갈 수 있도록 형성된 제2 통로를 포함하는 관 형상인 전지팩.
  4. 제3항에서,
    상기 소염 부재는 제1 소염 부재 및 제2 소염 부재를 포함하고,
    상기 제1 통로는 적어도 하나의 제1 소염 부재가 배치되고, 상기 제2 통로는 적어도 하나의 제2 소염 부재가 배치되는 전지팩,
  5. 제4항에서,
    상기 적어도 하나의 제1 소염 부재는 상기 제1 방향에 따라 이격되어 위치하는 전지팩.
  6. 제4항에서,
    상기 제1 통로에 배치된 제1 소염 부재의 개수가 상기 제2 통로에 배치된 제2 소염 부재의 개수보다 같거나 많은 전지팩.
  7. 제4항에서,
    상기 제2 소염 부재에 도포된 소염 물질의 양이 상기 제1 소염 부재에 도포된 소염 물질의 양보다 많은 전지팩.
  8. 제4항에서,
    상기 전지 모듈은,
    복수의 전지셀이 적층되어 있는 전지셀 적층체와 상기 전지셀 적층체를 수납하는 모듈 프레임,
    상기 모듈 프레임의 전후면으로 노출된 상기 전지셀 적층체를 덮는 엔드 플레이트, 및
    상기 엔드 플레이트에 상기 전지 모듈 내부와 연통하는 적어도 하나의 벤팅 게이트를 포함하는 전지팩.
  9. 제8항에서,
    상기 수평빔은 상기 벤팅 게이트와 서로 연통하여 연결되는 제1 연결홀을 포함하고,
    상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결홀에 인접하게 위치하는 전지팩.
  10. 제9항에서,
    상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결 홀보다 같거나 큰 크기를 가지고,
    상기 제2 소염 부재는 상기 제1 연결홀과 대응되는 위치에서 상기 제1 연결홀과 상기 제2 소염 부재 사이가 밀폐되도록 결합되는 전지팩.
  11. 제1항에 따른 전지팩을 포함하는 디바이스.
