Description

에너지 밀도가 증가된 파우치형 이차전지 및 이의 제조방법
본 출원은 2020년 06월 04일자 한국 특허 출원 제2020-0067950호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국 특허 출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용은 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함된다.
본 발명은 에너지 밀도가 증가된 파우치형 이차전지 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로 양극, 분리막, 음극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 둘 이상 포함하는 적층형 전극조립체와 상기 적층형 전극조립체를 수납하는 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 케이스를 포함하는 파우치형 이차전지 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
최근 화석연료의 사용에 따른 대기오염, 에너지 고갈로 인한 대체에너지 개발로 인해 생산된 전기 에너지를 저장할 수 있는 이차전지에 관한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 충방전이 가능한 이차전지는 모바일 기기, 전기 자동차, 하이브리드 전기자동차 등에 사용되는 등 일상생활에 밀접하게 사용되고 있다.
현대사회에서 필수불가결하게 사용되고 있는 각종 전자기기의 에너지원으로 사용되고 있는 이차전지는 모바일 기기의 사용량 증가 및 복잡화, 전기 자동차 등의 개발로 인해 요구되는 용량이 증가되고 있다. 사용자의 수요를 충족시키기 위해 다수의 전지 셀을 배치하거나 하나의 전지 셀 내에 다수의 양극, 분리막, 음극을 구비하여 용량을 높이고 있다.
다수의 전지 셀을 하나로 연결하여 사용하거나 하나의 전지 셀의 용량이 큰 경우, 전지 셀 내부에서 발생한 열을 방출하지 못해 과부하 등의 문제점이 발생할 수 있다. 특히 하나의 전지 셀의 용량이 큰 경우나 다수의 전지 셀을 연결하는 경우 과부하로 인해 전지 셀 내부의 온도가 상승하여 전지 셀의 이상 상태를 증폭시키는 등의 문제가 발생하고 있다. 이러한 문제들을 해결하기 위해 다수의 전지 셀을 연결한 배터리 모듈이나 배터리 팩은 전지 내부의 온도를 낮출 수 있는 냉각부를 구비하여 전지의 안전성을 높이고 있고, 원통형 이차전지의 경우, 케이스 상부 또는 케이스 자체에서 방열을 할 수 있는 구조를 구비하고 있다.
도 1은 종래 기술에 따른 파우치형 이차전지의 측면 모식도이다.
도 1에서 볼 수 있듯이, 종래 기술에 따른 파우치형 이차전지의 경우, 양극 집전체(11(a)) 및 상기 양극 집전체(11(a))의 일면 또는 양면에 도포된 양극 활물질층(11(b))을 구비하고 있는 양극(11), 음극 집전체(12(a)) 및 상기 음극 집전체(12(a))의 일면 또는 양면에 도포된 음극 활물질층(12(b))을 구비하고 있는 음극(12) 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에서 배치된 분리막(13)을 포함하는 전극조립체(10)를 케이스(20) 내에 수납하고 있다.
상기 케이스(20)는 서로 동일한 크기로 형성된 다수의 전극조립체(10)를 수납하기 위한 수납부가 상기 전극조립체(10)의 크기에 대응되는 사각형 직육면체 형태로 형성되어 있다.
하지만 사각형 직육면체 형태의 케이스(20)는 상기 케이스(20) 내부에서 발생한 열을 효과적으로 방출하기 어렵다.
특허문헌 1에서는 중간부로 갈수록 폭이 넓어지는 형태의 전극조립체의 적층체를 이에 대응되는 형태의 케이스에 수납하고 있으나, 전극조립체들을 적층한 후 이를 분리 필름으로 감싸고 있어 전극조립체의 전해액 함침성이 저하되고, 이로 인해 전지 셀의 용량이 감소하게 되는 문제점이 있다.

본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 파우치형 이차전지에 있어서, 케이스 내부에서 발생한 열을 방출하기 쉬운 케이스 내에 분리필름 없이 적층형 전극조립체를 수납하여 전해액 함침성이 높고, 방열효과가 뛰어난 파우치형 이차전지를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
또한 별도의 분리필름 없이도 적층형 전극조립체를 케이스 내에 수납하여도 케이스 내에서 상기 적층형 전극조립체의 형태가 변형되지 않는 구성을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지는 제1 전극, 분리막, 제2 전극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 적어도 둘 이상 포함하는 적층형 전극조립체 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체를 수납하는 케이스를 포함하며, 상기 케이스는 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 것을 특징으로 한다.
또한 상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극이고, 상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극일 수 있다.
또한 상기 중간조립체는 단면 전극/분리막/양면 전극/분리막/단면 전극이 적층될 수 있다.
상기 중간조립체들 사이에 절연 필름이 구비되어 있을 수 있다.
또한, 상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있고, 타면에는 절연 물질이 코팅되어 있는 절연 코팅 전극이고, 상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 중간조립체는 상기 제1 전극의 제1 전극 활물질 도포면이 제2 전극을 향하도록 적층될 수 있다.
상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고, 상기 제1-1 전극 및 상기 제1-2 전극은 절연 코팅 전극일 수 있다.
또한 상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고, 상기 제1-1 전극은 절연 코팅 전극이고, 상기 제1-2 전극은 상기 제1 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극일 수 있다.
상기 적층형 전극조립체는 상기 케이스의 넓이에 따라 상기 중간조립체의 크기가 달라질 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법은 S1) 제1 전극, 분리막, 제2 전극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 형성하는 단계, S2) 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 케이스를 준비하는 단계, S3) 상기 케이스의 넓이에 대응하도록 넓이가 다른 중간조립체를 적층하여 적층형 전극조립체를 형성하는 단계 및 S4) 상기 전극조립체를 상기 케이스에 수납하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법에서 상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극이고, 상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극일 수 있다.
또한 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법의 상기 S3) 단계에서 상기 중간조립체들 사이에 절연 필름이 구비되어 있을 수 있다.
또한 상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있고, 타면에는 절연 물질이 코팅되어 있는 절연 코팅 전극이고, 상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극일 수 있다.
이 때, 상기 중간조립체는 상기 제1 전극의 제1 전극 활물질 도포면이 제2 전극을 향하도록 적층되어 있을 수 있다.
또한 상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고, 상기 제1-1 전극 및 상기 제1-2 전극은 절연 코팅 전극일 수 있다.
게다가 상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고, 상기 제1-1 전극은 절연 코팅 전극이고, 상기 제1-2 전극은 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극일 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기에서 언급된 특징 중 상충되지 않는 구성을 하나 또는 둘 이상 구비하고 있는 파우치형 이차전지를 포함하는 배터리 모듈 또는 배터리 팩이거나, 상기 파우치형 이차전지가 장착된 디바이스 일 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 구성들 중 상충되지 않는 구성을 하나 또는 둘 이상 택하여 조합할 수 있다.

이하 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 본 발명을 쉽게 실시할 수 있는 실시예를 상세히 설명한다. 다만, 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예에 대한 동작 원리를 상세하게 설명함에 있어 관련된 공지 기능 또는 구성에 대한 구체적인 설명이 본 발명의 요지를 불필요하게 흐릴 수 있다고 판단되는 경우에는 그 상세한 설명을 생략한다.
또한, 도면 전체에 걸쳐 유사한 기능 및 작용을 하는 부분에 대해서는 동일한 도면 부호를 사용한다. 명세서 전체에서, 어떤 부분이 다른 부분과 연결되어 있다고 할 때, 이는 직접적으로 연결되어 있는 경우 뿐만 아니라, 그 중간에 다른 소자를 사이에 두고, 간접적으로 연결되어 있는 경우도 포함한다. 또한, 어떤 구성요소를 포함한다는 것은 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라, 다른 구성요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
이하 설명에서는 제1 전극은 음극, 제2 전극은 양극으로 표현하였고, 이에 따라 제1 전극 활물질은 음극 활물질, 제2 전극 활물질은 음극 활물질, 제1-1 전극은 제1 음극으로, 제1-2 전극은 제2 음극으로 표현하였고, 단면 전극은 단면 음극, 양면 전극은 양면 양극, 절연 코팅 전극은 절연 코팅 음극으로 설명하였다. 하지만 이는 설명의 편의를 위한 것으로 이에 한정되는 것이 아니고, 상기 언급된 음극과 양극이 서로 바뀔 수도 있다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지의 측면 모식도이다.
본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지는 양극(110), 분리막(130), 음극(120)이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체(100(a))를 적어도 둘 이상 포함하는 적층형 전극조립체(100(b)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))를 수납하는 케이스(200)를 포함하며, 상기 케이스는 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 양극(110)은 양극 집전체(111)의 적어도 일면에 도포된 양극 활물질층(112)을 포함한다. 다만 본 발명과 같은 중간조립체(100(a))를 형성하기 위해 본 발명에 따른 양극(110)은 양극 집전체(111)의 양면에 양극 활물질층(112)이 존재하는 양면 양극인 것이 바람직하다. 상기 양극 활물질층(112)은 양극 활물질, 도전재 및 바인더가 혼합된 양극 합제를 도포하여 제조될 수 있고, 필요에 따라서는 상기 양극 합제에 충진제를 더 첨가할 수 있다.
상기 양극 집전체(111)는 일반적으로 3 μm~ 500 μm의 두께로 제조되며, 당해 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 높은 도전성을 가지는 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 스테인레스 스틸, 알루미늄, 니켈, 티타늄, 및 알루미늄이나 스테인레스 스틸의 표면에 카본, 니켈, 티타늄 또는 은으로 표면처리 한 것 중에서 선택되는 하나를 사용할 수 있고, 상세하게는 알루미늄이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 양극 집전체(111)는 그것의 표면에 미세한 요철을 형성하여 양극 활물질층(112)과의 접착력을 높일 수도 있으며, 필름, 시트, 호일, 네트, 다공질체, 발포체, 부직포체 등 다양한 형태가 가능하다.
상기 양극 활물질은, 예를 들어, 상기 양극 활물질 입자 외에, 리튬 니켈 산화물(LiNiO 2) 등의 층상 화합물이나 1 또는 그 이상의 전이금속으로 치환된 화합물; 화학식 Li 1+xMn 2-xO 4 (여기서, x 는 0 ~ 0.33 임), LiMnO 3, LiMn 2O 3, LiMnO 2 등의 리튬 망간 산화물; 리튬 동 산화물(Li 2CuO 2); LiV 3O 8, LiV 3O 4, V 2O 5, Cu 2V 2O 7 등의 바나듐 산화물; 화학식 LiNi 1-xM xO 2 (여기서, M = Co, Mn, Al, Cu, Fe, Mg, B 또는 Ga 이고, x = 0.01 ~ 0.3 임)으로 표현되는 Ni 사이트형 리튬 니켈 산화물; 화학식 LiMn 2-xM xO 2 (여기서, M = Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, Zn 또는 Ta 이고, x = 0.01 ~ 0.1 임) 또는 Li 2Mn 3MO 8 (여기서, M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu 또는 Zn 임)으로 표현되는 리튬 망간 복합 산화물; 화학식의 Li 일부가 알칼리토금속 이온으로 치환된 LiMn 2O 4; 디설파이드 화합물; Fe 2(MoO 4) 3 등으로 구성될 수 있으며, 이들만으로 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 도전재는 통상적으로 양극 활물질을 포함한 혼합물 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.1 내지 30 중량%로 첨가된다. 이러한 도전재는 당해 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 도전성을 가진 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 천연 흑연이나 인조 흑연 등의 흑연; 카본블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 채널 블랙, 퍼네이스 블랙, 램프 블랙, 서머 블랙 등의 카본블랙; 탄소 섬유나 금속 섬유 등의 도전성 섬유; 불화 카본, 알루미늄, 니켈 분말 등의 금속 분말; 산화아연, 티탄산 칼륨 등의 도전성 위스키; 산화 티탄 등의 도전성 금속 산화물; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 소재 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 양극(110)에 포함되는 바인더는 활물질과 도전재 등의 결합과 집전체에 대한 결합에 조력하는 성분으로서, 통상적으로 양극 활물질을 포함하는 혼합물 전체 중량을 기준으로 0.1 내지 30 중량%로 첨가된다. 이러한 바인더의 예로는, 폴리불화비닐리덴, 폴리비닐알코올, 카르복시메틸셀룰로우즈(CMC), 전분, 히드록시프로필셀룰로우즈, 재생 셀룰로우즈, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔 테르 폴리머(EPDM), 술폰화 EPDM, 스티렌-부타디엔 고무, 불소 고무, 다양한 공중합체 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 음극(120)은 음극 집전체(121)의 일면에만 음극 활물질을 도포, 건조하여 음극 활물질층(122)이 일면에 존재하는 음극(120)을 제작한다. 필요에 따라, 앞서 설명한 바와 같은 성분들이 선택적으로 더 포함될 수도 있다.
상기 음극(120)이 음극 집전체(121)의 일면에만 음극 활물질층(122)이 존재하는 단면 음극으로 존재함으로써, 파우치형 이차전지 내에서 음극(120)이 차지하는 공간이 줄어 파우치형 이차전지의 용량이 향상된다.
상기 음극 활물질로는, 예를 들어, 난흑연화 탄소, 흑연계 탄소 등의 탄소; Li xFe 2O 3(0≤x≤1), Li xWO 2(0≤x≤1), Sn xMe 1-xMe' yO z (Me: Mn, Fe, Pb, Ge; Me': Al, B, P, Si, 주기율표의 1족, 2족, 3족 원소, 할로겐; 0<x≤1; 1≤y≤3; 1≤z≤8) 등의 금속 복합 산화물; 리튬 금속; 리튬 합금; 규소계 합금; 주석계 합금; SnO, SnO 2, PbO, PbO 2, Pb 2O 3, Pb 3O 4, Sb 2O 3, Sb 2O 4, Sb 2O 5, GeO, GeO 2, Bi 2O 3, Bi 2O 4, 및 Bi 2O 5 등의 금속 산화물; 폴리아세틸렌 등의 도전성 고분자; Li-Co-Ni 계 재료 등을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 분리막(130)은 양극(110)과 음극(120) 사이에 개재되며, 높은 이온 투과도와 기계적 강도를 가지는 절연성의 얇은 박막이 사용된다. 분리막(130)의 기공 직경은 일반적으로 0.01 μm ~ 10 μm이고, 두께는 일반적으로 5 μm ~ 300 μm이다. 이러한 분리막(130)으로는, 예를 들어, 내화학성 및 소수성의 폴리프로필렌 등의 올레핀계 폴리머; 유리섬유 또는 폴리에틸렌 등으로 만들어진 시트나 부직포 등이 사용된다. 전해질로서 폴리머 등의 고체 전해질이 사용되는 경우에는 고체 전해질이 분리막(130)을 겸할 수도 있다.
상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))는 장방형의 양극(110) 및 음극(120)이 분리막(130)을 사이에 개재한 상태로 적층되는 구조의 단위셀들로 구성되는 스택형 조립체 또는 단위셀들이 분리막(130)을 사이에 개재한 상태로 적층되어 서로 간에 부착되는 라미네이션-스택형 조립체 등으로 이루어질 수 있으나 이에 제한하지 않는다. 다만, 상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))는 이들의 전해액 함침성을 감소시키는 형태인 긴 시트형의 분리막을 양극 및 음극 사이에 개재한 후 권취되는 구조로 이루어지는 젤리-롤형 조립체 또는 단위셀들이 긴 분리 필름에 의해 권취되는 스택-폴딩형 조립체와 같은 구조가 아닌 것이 바람직하다.
이때, 상기 중간조립체(100(a))는 단면 음극(120)/ 분리막(130)/ 양면 양극(110)/ 분리막(130)/ 단면 음극(120)이 적층되어 있는 구조일 수 있다.
상기와 같이 중간조립체(100(a))에 단면 음극(120)을 사용함으로써 하나의 중간조립체(100(a))의 두께가 줄어들게 되고, 이를 통해 상기 중간조립체(100(a))를 미세하게 다른 크기로 조절하여 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))의 전체적인 균형을 맞추기에 유리하다.
이때, 상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 내의 양극(110), 음극(120) 및 분리막(130)의 크기는 서로 동일한 크기이고, 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))에서 상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 간의 크기는 서로 다를 수 있다. 즉, 상기 중간조립체(100(a))는 케이스(200)의 넓이나 형태에 따라 그 크기가 달라질 수 있다.
상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))를 형성하기 위해 상기 중간조립체(100(a))들 사이에는 절연 필름(140)이 구비되어 있을 수 있다. 상기 절연 필름(140)은 상기 중간조립체(100(a))들이 서로 마주보는 위치에 배치되어 절연의 역할을 수행한다.
또는 상기 절연 필름(140) 대신 상기 음극(120)이 음극 집전체(121)의 일면에 음극 활물질층(122)이 도포되고, 타면에 절연 물질이 코팅되어 있는 절연 코팅 음극일 수 있다.
이 때, 상기 절연 코팅 음극은 상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 내에서 음극 활물질 도포면, 즉 음극 활물질층(122)이 상기 양극(110)을 향하도록 배치되어 있을 수 있다.
즉, 상기 중간조립체(100(a))는 제1음극/ 분리막(130)/ 양극(110)/ 분리막(130)/ 제2음극이 적층되어 있고, 상기 제1음극 및 상기 제2음극이 모두 다 절연 코팅 음극일 수도 있고, 상기 제1음극이 절연 코팅 음극이고, 상기 제2음극은 단면 음극일 수도 있다.
상기 제1음극이 절연 코팅 음극이고, 상기 제2음극이 단면 음극인 경우, 상기 중간조립체(100(a))는 상기 제1음극과 상기 제2음극의 배치가 동일하도록 적층되는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))는 케이스(200)에 수납되며, 케이스(200)는 통상적으로 내부층/금속층/외부층의 라미네이트 시트 구조로 이루어져 있다. 내부층은 전극 조립체와 직접적으로 접촉하므로 절연성과 내전해액성을 가져야 하고, 또 외부와의 밀폐를 위하여 실링성 즉, 내부층끼리 열 접착된 실링 부위는 우수한 열접착 강도를 가져야 한다. 이러한 내부층의 재료로는 내화학성이 우수하면서도 실링성이 좋은 폴리프로필렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리에틸렌아크릴산, 폴리부틸렌 등의 폴리올레핀계 수지, 폴리우레탄수지 및 폴리이미드수지로부터 선택될 수 있으나 이에 한정하지 않으며, 인장강도, 강성, 표면경도, 내충격 강도 등의 기계적 물성과 내화학성이 뛰어난 폴리프로필렌이 가장 바람직하다.
내부층과 접하고 있는 금속층은 외부로부터 수분이나 각종 가스가 전지 내부로 침투하는 것을 방지하는 배리어층에 해당되고, 이러한 금속층의 바람직한 재료로는 가벼우면서도 성형성이 우수한 알루미늄 막막을 사용할 수 있다.
그리고 금속층의 타측면에는 외부층이 구비되며, 이러한 외부층은 전극 조립체를 보호하면서 내열성과 내화학성을 확보할 수 있도록 인장강도, 투습방지성 및 공기투과 방지성이 우수한 내열성 폴리머를 사용할 수 있고, 일예로 나일론 또는 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트를 사용할 수 있으나 이에 제한하지 않는다.
본 발명에 따른 케이스(200)는 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 클 수 있다. 상기 케이스(200)의 일례로, 상기 케이스는 상부 컵과 하부 컵을 가진 케이스이고, 상기 상부 컵과 하부 컵은 각각 서로 맞닿는 면이 가장 넓은 사다리꼴의 형태를 가지고 있을 수 있다.
이 때, 상기 상부 컵의 깊이는 상기 하부 컵의 깊이보다 작을 수 있다. 이는 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))가 무너지지 않으면서 상기 케이스(200) 내에 잘 수납되기 위함이다.
또한 상기 컵의 기울기는 상기 케이스(200)의 바닥면에 대해 120ㅀ 내지 160ㅀ인 것이 바람직하다. 본 발명에서 케이스(200)의 바닥면은 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))의 전극과 분리막들이 적층되는 넓은 면이 대면하는 상부 컵 또는 하부 컵의 케이스 면이고, 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))의 넓은면을 제외한 면들이 대면하는 상부 컵 또는 하부 컵의 케이스 면은 케이스(200)의 측면이다. 또한, 컵의 기울기는 중간조립체(100(a)) 및 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))를 수납하는 케이스(200)의 내부에서 상기 케이스(200)의 바닥면과 케이스(200)의 측면 사이의 각도를 뜻하는 것이고, 케이스(200)의 바닥면과 수직으로 위치하는 케이스(200)의 측면 사이의 직각은 제외된다.
만약 컵의 기울기가 상기 케이스(200)의 바닥면에 대해 120ㅀ이하인 경우, 상기 케이스(200)의 방열효과가 감소하고, 수납하는 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))의 용량 증가효과 또한 감소한다. 또한, 상기 컵의 기울기가 상기 케이스(200)의 바닥면에 대해 160ㅀ이상인 경우, 상기 케이스(200) 내의 상기 중간조립체(100(a))의 크기 차이가 커져 외부 충격 등에 의해 상기 적층형 전극조립체(100(b))의 형태가 변형될 수 있는 문제가 발생할 수 있다.
본 발명은 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법으로, S1) 양극, 분리막, 음극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 형성하는 단계, S2) 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 케이스를 준비하는 단계, S3) 상기 케이스의 넓이에 대응하도록 넓이가 다른 중간조립체를 적층하여 적층형 전극조립체를 형성하는 단계 및 S4) 상기 전극조립체를 상기 케이스에 수납하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
상기와 같이 중간조립체를 형성한 후, 넓이가 다른 중간조립체를 적층하여 적층형 전극조립체를 형성함으로써, 무게중심이 일정한 적층형 전극조립체를 형성할 수 있다. 또한, 각 중간조립체를 구성하는 각 양극, 분리막, 음극의 결합력을 강화시켜 본 발명에 따른 적층형 전극조립체의 안정성을 향상 시킬 수 있다.
즉, 상기 적층형 전극조립체가 외부 충격에 의해 흔들려서 상기 적층형 전극조립체의 형태가 변형되어도, 결합력이 더 강한 중간조립체는 초기 상태로 결합되게 되고 전지의 성능에 영향이 적을 수 있다.
전극과 분리막 사이 결합력이 높은 상기 중간조립체는 외부 충격을 받을 경우, 상기 적층형 전극조립체 대비 상대적으로 변형이 적게 발생하고, 초기 상태를 유지할 수 있으므로, 외부 충격이 이차전지의 성능에 대한 영향이 적을 수 있다.
이때, 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지의 크기를 최소화하면서 용량을 증가시키기 위해 상기 음극은 집전체의 일면에만 음극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 음극이고, 상기 양극은 집전체의 양면에 양극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 양극을 사용할 수 있다. 본 발명에서는 단면 음극/ 분리막/ 양면 양극/ 분리막/ 단면 음극의 형태로 적층한 중간조립체를 사용할 수 있다.
또한 상기 중간조립체들 사이에는 상기 언급한 바와 같이 절연 필름을 구비하거나 절연 코팅 음극을 사용할 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기 기재된 것 중 어느 하나 이상의 특징을 가지고 있는 파우치형 이차전지를 포함하는 배터리 모듈 또는 배터리 팩일 수 있다.
또한 본 발명은 파우치형 이차전지가 장착된 디바이스일 수 있다.
상기 디바이스는 전기 자동차, 하이브리드 자동차, 플러그-인 하이브리드 전기자동차 등과 같이 대용량의 전지를 포함하는 전자기기일 수 있다.
본 발명이 속한 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 상기 내용을 바탕으로 본 발명의 범주내에서 다양한 응용 및 변형을 수행하는 것이 가능할 것이다.

이상에서 설명한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차전지는 분리 필름이 감싸지 않아 전해액 함침성이 뛰어난 적층형 전극조립체를 포함하고, 이를 수납하는 수납부의 형태를 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 크게 설정하며 전극조립체의 크기를 상기 케이스에 따라 적층하여 종래의 파우치형 이차전지보다 용량이 크다는 장점이 있다.
또한 상기 케이스가 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 크기 때문에 방열 효과 또한 뛰어나다.
게다가 중간조립체를 형성한 후 이를 적층하여 별도의 분리 필름 등으로 극조립체를 고정하지 않아도 전극조립체의 형태가 유지되는 장점이 있다.

Claims (12)

  1. 제1 전극, 분리막, 제2 전극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 적어도 둘 이상 포함하는 적층형 전극조립체; 및
    상기 적층형 전극조립체를 수납하는 케이스;를 포함하며,
    상기 케이스는 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극이고,
    상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극인 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  3. 제2항에 있어서,
    상기 중간조립체는 단면 전극/분리막/양면 전극/분리막/단면 전극이 적층되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  4. 제3항에 있어서,
    상기 중간조립체들 사이에 절연 필름이 구비되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있고, 타면에는 절연 물질이 코팅되어 있는 절연 코팅 전극이고,
    상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극인 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  6. 제5항에 있어서,
    상기 중간조립체는 상기 제1 전극의 제1 전극 활물질 도포면이 제2 전극을 향하도록 적층된 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  7. 제6항에 있어서,
    상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고,
    상기 제1-1 전극 및 상기 제1-2 전극은 절연 코팅 전극인 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  8. 제6항에 있어서,
    상기 중간조립체는 제1-1 전극/분리막/제2 전극/분리막/제1-2 전극이 적층되어 있고,
    상기 제1-1 전극은 절연 코팅 전극이고, 상기 제1-2 전극은 상기 제1 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극인 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  9. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 적층형 전극조립체는 상기 케이스의 넓이에 따라 상기 중간조립체의 크기가 달라지는 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지.
  10. S1) 제1 전극, 분리막, 제2 전극, 분리막, 제1 전극이 적층되어 있는 중간조립체를 형성하는 단계;
    S2) 케이스 중앙부의 넓이가 상면 및 하면의 넓이보다 큰 케이스를 준비하는 단계;
    S3) 상기 케이스의 넓이에 대응하도록 넓이가 다른 중간조립체를 적층하여 적층형 전극조립체를 형성하는 단계; 및
    S4) 상기 전극조립체를 상기 케이스에 수납하는 단계;를 포함하는 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법.
  11. 제10항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 전극은 집전체의 일면에만 제1 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 단면 전극이고,
    상기 제2 전극은 집전체의 양면에 제2 전극 활물질이 도포되어 있는 양면 전극인 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법.
  12. 제10항에 있어서,
    상기 S3) 단계에서 상기 중간조립체들 사이에 절연 필름이 구비되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 파우치형 이차전지 제조방법.
