Abstract
A bearing assembly 10 supports a shaft 12 within a casing 14, which has bearing barrels 16, 22 at opposed ends, which are sealed against the shaft. An intermediate sleeve 28 of reduced diameter integrally interconnects the barrels. A small clearance 32 is formed annularly between the shaft 12 and the sleeve 28. On account of the narrowness of the clearance 32, which is grease-fillied in use, heat produced during heat build-up in use, is effectively conducted at small temperature diffrence to the sleeve 28. Ribs 31 extend longitudinally at circumferential spacings integrally with the sleeve 28 between the barrels. Heat is dissipated effectively via the ribs 31 acting as cooling ribs. The ribs 31 reinforce the casing against bending, thus acting also as reinforcing ribs
