Abstract

Un papel que presenta propiedades mejoradas de resistencia en humedo, en humedo temporario y en seco, comprende pulpa de celulosa modificada con aldehído donde la pulpa de celulosa tiene entre aproximadamente 1 y 20 mmoles de aldehído por cada 100 g. de celulosa. Un método para fabricar papel con propiedades de resistencia en humedo, resistencia en humedo temporaria y resistencia en seco comprende usar el material celulosico modificado con aldehído como pulpa o un componente de la pulpa. El método provee papel con el alto grado deseado de las propiedades de resistencia en humedo, en humedo temporario, y en seco incluidos el índice y la resistencia a la compresion, y que no involucra el uso de aditivos como componentes separados. La celulosa o pulpa de celulosa modificada con aldehído se prepara por medio de una oxidacion selectiva con una cantidad limitada de oxidante, un radical nitroxilo intermediario, y condiciones de reaccion definidas para obtener un material de celulosa oxidada con un contenido efectivo de aldehído que la hace particularmente apropiada para su uso en la fabricacion de papel. Particularmente, el método para preparar celulosa o pulpa de celulosa modificada con aldehído con un contenido de aldehído de entre aproximadamente 1 y 20 mmoles/100 g. de celulosa, comprende oxidar celulosa o pulpa de celulosa en una solucion acuosa con un oxidante que tiene una fuerza oxidante equivalente de hasta 0.5 g. de cloro activo por cada 100 g. de celulosa y una cantidad de radical nitroxilo intermediario, donde la reaccion se lleva a cabo a un pH de aproximadamente 8.0 a 10.5 y una temperatura de entre aproximadamente 5 y 50 degree C.
