Abstract

La distribución de información digital, en particular audio, se controla como sigue. Un portador de grabación (11) como un CD es distribuido el cual tiene al menos parte de la información digital cifrada usando una clave de cifrado. Una clave de descifrado correspondiente a la clave de cifrado también es distribuida al usuario, por ejemplo en un área reservada en el CD. El usuario (32) reproduce el audio en un reproductor (31), que descifra la información usando la clave. Sin embargo, al menos parte de la información solo es reproducida después de que un Código de Acceso Personalizado PAC (40) es recibido por el reproductor. El PAC es generado en el centro de acceso remoto (33), por ejemplo un sitio de Internet. Una base de datos (34) conectada al centro y una memoria de reproductor soportan un identificador de reproductor y una clave de reproductor secreta. El usuario transmite el identificador de reproductor y un identificador de información identificando el CD al centro de acceso, y el centro de acceso calcula el PAC usando el identificador y la clave secreta del reproductor. El PAC es transmitido al reproductor que verifica el PAC usando su propia clave de reproductor secreta, y permite la reproducción de partes protegidas de información PAC.
