Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Verfahren zum Veredeln von Baumwolle.
 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 EMI1.1

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 If necessary, after squeezing out the excess carbon disulfide, the fabric is treated with 14-20% sodium hydroxide solution for a few minutes to several hours.

   2. Cotton fabric in a stretched state is brought into a mixture of 10-18% sodium hydroxide solution with 0-2-3% carbon disulfide and treated with this mixture for a few minutes to several hours.

   3. Procedure exactly as in the previous exemplary embodiments, but with the difference that the tissue is pretreated with a strong sulfuric acid before it is fed to the present process. If a sulfuric acid of 49-50 Bé is used for this, the treatment with it can last from a few seconds to a few minutes and even longer at room temperature.

  If you use a stronger sulfuric acid, e.g. B. one of 52-54 Bé, then the treatment should only last a few seconds when the sulfuric acid is at room temperature. However, if the sulfuric acid is cooled to 0 'or below, it can also last longer.

   Treatment with sulfuric acid can also result in mercerization of the tissue e.g. B. with 10% sodium hydroxide solution at low temperatures or with a strong, z. B. 18-40% sodium hydroxide solution at room temperature.

   The cotton material treated according to the present process is of course washed or acidified and washed and dried in the usual manner. It can also be dried or steamed before washing.

   All secondary operations that are usual or suggested for mercerization can be used in the present method, e.g. B. Lustring, printing, etc.

   The finished fabrics can, if desired, be calendered, carved, patted or the like.

   The term "cotton" in the claims encompasses cotton in the form of pure cotton or mixed fabrics, of yarns in strands or cops or of warps.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for upgrading cotton by treatment with alkali and carbon disulfide, characterized in that the cotton without prior conversion into alkali cellulose at the same time with SehwefeIkohlenstoff and alkali so z. B. a mixture of carbon disulfide and alkali is treated.

Claims (1)

2. Embodiment of the method according to claim 1, characterized in that the cotton is first treated with carbon disulfide and then with alkali. 3. 3. Embodiment of the method according to claim 1 to 2, characterized in that the cotton with mercerizing agents (z. B. strong alkali) or with oxidizing or reducing bleaching agents or with hydrating agents, eg. B. a strong mineral acid, is pretreated.
